I have just come away from the most tiliting day of my life. I am sure there has been a lot of discussion, but I basically had a first row seat to the carnage every step of the way.

They told us over and over again that they would register 3k and/or that they wouldn't turn anyone away. Over and over again we were told this.

Then, they sell out at 2700.

I am 2704.

Yes, they sold out about 10 minutes before I got there with my cash this morning.

Then, I get slowrolled about ten ****ing times over the course of the last 9 hours, thinking I was going to get in.

There's a huge ordeal with a mob, and Sexton is pleading our case to Pollack. Pollack takes like an hour to make an announcement, and then says no. Refuses to answer any of our questions or complaints, and is just generally a ****ing **** about it.

I'm still 4th on the list though, and if any of the pre-registrants don't show, I'll get a seat. Instead they give the extra seats to name pros and don't let in one single person off the list.

I am so ****ing tilted and angry I want to ****ing murder someone.

Huck Seed got in, I was a foot and a half from when it happened.

Supposedly he was pre-regged because he won the NBC HU and they had trouble finding it. Who knows if that's true or not, but that's what they told us peons. He got in at about 4pm
07-06-2009 , 08:32 PM
I believe that is actually true (re: Huck guaranteed a WSOP ME seat), but I haven't found anything yet to prove it.
07-06-2009 , 08:33 PM
This sounds like special treatment. Could this whole thing be handled any worse?

that sucks goldenbear.

also pa for next year,

you will get a softer table by preregging from my experience in all the prelims and the main, the randomization process is a joke and the people with cash in hand just before or late regging are generally the better players

what time does day2a start? i assume noon but cant find it
07-06-2009 , 08:41 PM
having a true alternate system + more tables + evening out registration across the days before the morning of the event = this **** won't happen in the future.

for whatever reason they decided to remove alternates like a year or two ago and now this happens. it ends up being preferential treatment in the end when diamond club members/known players bitch and they wind up getting seats of players who registered but didn't show up. it's not fair and it definitely isn't in the spirit of what the WSOP was at one time (IMO).

Every day starts at noon.

I don't have any proof but there were MANY allegations of players getting special treatment, which sucks for me since I was 4th on a list of commoners where not a single person got a seat.

Gary Wise from ESPN was doing some investigating into Phil Ivey and Lindgren's registrations, and I was right there. They showed records indicating that Lindgren registered on 7/2, and then they tried to look up Ivey's but there "were some errors and they misplaced it" or something.

cardplayer.com said patrick antonious didn't get to register but idk if this is true. Guess you all should have signed up earlier.

One of the MANY MANY contradictions / outright lies they told us today was "we didn't do alternates because we have never done them." I heard this at least seven times today.

-We can't do alternates because we've never done them
-We can't sit ten handed because it's not fair
-We can't do a day 1-E because of 'operational difficulties'

My response to the alternates quote was:

1. That's an outright lie

2. You've also never said that there were 3k seats, and then only sold 2.7k. You've also never played some groups through 4 levels and some through 5. You've also never TURNED AWAY PLAYERS FROM THE WSOP MAIN EVENT. Since when does a (nonexistent) precedent mean that you absolutely can't do something even if you should?

I was ignored.

I am pretty sure that I remember hearing this announced on tv right after/before Huck won the NBC HU event. Just remember them saying he had an automatic seat into the WSOP ME and thinking "does a guy like Huck really care about winning a $10k buyin to a tourney after winning a big tourney like this?"
07-06-2009 , 08:51 PM
Well, they didn't do alternates this year.

Earlier today, there were more than a few people ITT who thought Harrah's would be greedy and go 10-handed today. By passing up the 300 extra seats, they turned down $180,000 (and various monies for food, lodging, etc.) while denying an additional $2,820,000 from the prize pool for the players.

Why the hell would they let Ivey off the hook for playing on a feature table? Ivey on a feature table is obv great publicity, and Ivey has no leverage since it's not like he'll just stop playing the ME or something.
The millions he probably loses at craps every year?

Is there a place I can search for my friend to see if he got in?

5:20pm... Unofficial Numbers: 2,808 for Day 1D

lol at this. I pre-reg'd like 2 months ago and I sit with Kravchenko and Raymer. This statement is simply untrue.

stay close to this investigation and try to negotiate a free entry to next years ME. sounds like they pulled strings for some and you got screwed. companies settle disputes and give compensation on far less if you can get any proof

Day 1D unofficial official numbers... 2,808. Overall? 6,493 runners in the Main Event.

Both from Pauly

LOL...there is no law against favoritsm
07-06-2009 , 09:00 PM
to those saying 'lol prereg early morons,' just about everybody there had a vaild excuse for not registering and EVERYBODY was told flat out either "we will cap at 3k" or "we will never turn someone away from the wsop ME"

My excuse is that I was traveling, and the banks were closed Saturday, Sunday and most of Friday and I didn't want to carry 10k around the whole time. I thought I could reg with a debit card, and I was wrong. I didn't get a cash advance (for $350) because I was told that there was NO WAY I wouldn't get a seat if I showed up at 9am by two separate staff members.

Showed up at 8:58 am and... didn't get a seat.

wow.

I have read GB's saga throughout this thread and this just totally blows. The frickin website says 3000 entries per day. I suppose this is trumped by the "Harrah's can do whatever they want" clause, but this sucks balls.

but- frickin pre-reg people. why the eff didn't everyone who wanted to play do this?

edit: for my fellow golden bear- my point is that if you knew you were going to play anytime before 2 weeks ago you could have wired monies to the rio (thus saving the headache of dealing with the cash) and be in. I know your mega-tilted right now, but in a couple days this should dawn on you as the clear winning plan.

Last edited by renodoc; 07-06-2009 at 09:04 PM. Reason: cause i told him to effin pre-reg

Whatever, I spent 9 hours trying to get in today I'm just sick of it.

I just want to go play in the bellagio tourneys, but 26 different people bought 70% of my action, so I have to contact them all one by one and hope that they agree to stake me for those instead.
