From Andrew Feldman's chat on ESPN.com:

just for arguements sake and for entertainment value, what happens if say helmuth(i know he already played yesterday) and ivey stroll up late today and havent bought in yet. you really think they would have been turned down too or they would have come up with something to get them in?

I saw a ton of full tilt players trying to pull strings. It isn't working. They got turned away, that's all. Nobody to blame there but themselves.

Players that have been shut out
Patrik Antonius = GOD to most and ESPN also
Mickey Appleman played Main Event 20+ straight years
Melissa Hayden-Will not stop until allowed to play
TJ Cloutier- Worked up his stake a little too late-He will not be denied entry and has played about 20 straight years also
Melissa Hayden has been shut out?? Yikes, watch out!!!!

(Overheard) Start the late reg. players at 3 PM, have them play four levels and toss them in with the Day 1A-B players tomorrow.

seems like a pretty good idea?

Beck And Call
Charles Beck is up to 60,000 after he raised preflop to 250 and found the big blind reraising him to 500. Beck made the call and the pair saw a flop where Beck raised his opponent's 1,500 bet to 4,500. The big blind called and then led out for 6,000 on the turn which Beck called, and then Beck called his all in shove on the river.

The big blind showed but was beaten by Beck's , the latter saying, "Are you serious?" as he saw his opponent's hand.

GOTTA LOVE THE DONKAMENT CALLED THE MAIN EVENT

From what I've read elsewhere, Mike Sexton's talking to the suits trying to arrange something.

but I think TV table is -EV for Ivey... more people will take shots at him on the TV table to show the world how they outplayed the greatest, and you KNOW some donkey with Q10o would get lucky and bust him
No. If they know about WSOP on ESPN then they know about Ivey and will take those shots anyway. Plus ... that's +EV for Pros imo.

kevmath,

for day 1c you have my table listed wrong. my sheet says b-10. I finished 269th w/ 61kish chips.

I only feel bad for TJ cloutier and other degenish types who couldn't scrounge up the 10k until gametime. all you others are just lazy and should have gone down there earlier.

i agree with the last part, but in either case, it's entirely against the way the WSOP has been run in the past to turn people away. matt savage didn't turn anyone away (from what i know since i was <21 at the time) when they had binions turned into an actual zoo in 2004. i say actual zoo because with poker players in a place like binions, the smell was probably closer to that of a zoo than a casino.

anyway, they def should just start a day 1e at 4 or 5pm. i imagine that would leave just a few dozen extra tables in action but it's better than turning everyone away. run them 10handed even, punish em for coming in late! obv make em 9 handed asap.

Matt I can't believe u think 10 handed should be an option. That is absolutely ridiculous and compromises the integrity of the tournament.

Also, as someone who made it through day 1C I am watching this closely and am inclined to go downstairs to monitor the situation. I do not want anymore people added because it will possibly lead to 10 handed tables on day 2B.

If you got shutout you got shutout, it happens in tournaments. I would think the fact that they offer an amazing event with an amazing structure would be a reason to applaud the WSOP, not to blast them for not bending over backwards for the 300 people who wanted to play the event the least while making a lopsided situation for the other 6700 people already in

Does anyone know if LetMeLive is playing today.

The value of having more players than last year is a win for the WSOP and a HUGE win for poker in general especially in this economy!

I do not like to see people shut out of tournaments unless it is the last option and especially do not want to see anyone shut out of the Main Event!!

Norm and Lon cannot say "anyone can win" especially if people get shut out!

The later it gets the more likely it is that they will uphold the shutout.

Any "extra" players would be added to day 2a, and the latest rumor is they would start at ~4pm PT and play 4 levels.

Regarding the chip counts, the info is provided by the WSOP staff.

Matt is 100% correct about this. Beating last year would be huge.
