The following statement was just released by the World Series of Poker regarding Phil Hellmuth's penalty, which was overturned at the start of play today:

"This morning Phil Hellmuth met with Jack Effel, WSOP Tournament Director, Howard Greenbaum, Harrah's Regional Vice President for Specialty Gaming, and Jeffrey Pollack, Commissioner of the WSOP. Based on that meeting and an official review of the situation, it was decided that the penalty imposed on Mr. Hellmuth at the conclusion of play last night was excessive."

"Warnings and penalties are intended to correct inappropriate behavior and our rulings should be as fair as possible, given the circumstances," said Pollack. "In this instance, the punishment did not fit the crime."

"Phil has now been warned and put on notice in a way that he never has been," Pollack added.
WHAT A JOKE!!

So I guess everyone receiving a penalty should ask for an official meeting with Jack Effel, Howard Greenbaum and Jeffrey Pollack from now on - just to review the situation. Based on how much money you have and how much TV time you get, the penalty can be overruled.

What's next? They deal out another river card because Phil Hellmuth went crying to his daddies because his flush draw didn't hit??

Relax. The penalty was simply too severe. No one should expect to sit out a full orbit just for saying "you are the worst player in history!" It's not like he menaced to kill the guy, you know. Just my opinion.

Alex Outhred Eliminated in 54th Place ($135,100)

Chris Klodnicki opened with a raise to 110,000 from the button before Alex Outhred moved all in from the small blind for his last 525,000. Klodnicki made the call.

Klodnicki: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}
Outhred: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}

The flop came {K-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} to give Outhred a pair of kings, but Klodnicki made a set of nines to take a commanding lead in the hand. When the {3-Diamonds} fell on the turn, Outhred was left drawing dead. He is eliminated in 54th place, which means he jumps into the next payout bracket for a collect of $135,100.

Klodnicki now 6th in chips with 5.35MM, one time plz.

My assessment has absolutely nothing to do with chip stacks and more to do with... every tournament there is one person who makes it riding off the coattails of the suckout after suckout after suckout. When he gets there, you sit there and scratch your head and say "HTF did this guy get here". He's done it twice now to 2+2ers in the last day or so.

I'm not saying he's a horrible players, as I've never played with him before. I'm saying that he seems to have made some questionable calls and gotta lucky with them.

Hellmuth is out of line virtually always. I was stunned that a floorperson had the guts to assess a penalty (which could only have been the result of totally out-of-control behavior because he usually gets away with murder), not at all surprised (but pissed) that it was reversed. And no one higher up should have been allowed to reverse it unless they were able to review a videotape of the incident.

he wasn't given the penalty for insulting the guy ONCE ... he received a warning and then CONTINUED to berate him

quote from pokernews.com

"Everyone thought Phil Hellmuth ended the day just with a blow-up and a warning, but that's not the case. He continued to berate Cristian Dragomir for several minutes after the last hand we described and after floorperson Robbie Thompson issued him a warning."

so yeah, I think the penalty was correct. we all know phil from TV and he does this all the time. it was about time that someone put him into his place.

It's Phil Hellmuth, I'm sure they had tape. I guess when this airs sometime in early October we can judge how severe Phil's actions were.

haha. awesome:

Andrew Brokos raised to 120,000 from the cutoff, Tommy Le moved all in for 400,000 from the button and Brokos called.

Le {A-Hearts} {6-Hearts}

Brokos {4-Diamonds} {6-Clubs}

The flop was {Q-Spades} {5-Hearts} {3-Clubs}, Le still leading, but Brokos picked up an open-ended straight draw. The turn was the {3-Hearts}, but the {2-Clubs} fell on the river, making Brokos' straight and eliminating Le.

GO ANDREW!

I reckon they let Hellmuth off just as they didn't want to disadvantage him in any way so he had more chance of making the FT= better ratings.

Anyway, he's busto.
