As far as your decision, I'd go for the PA job since it's sort of in the field you want to be a part of. The real problem I see is if this job is only going to last for a month, what would you do after the month is over? Would you go back to the old gig or try to find a new job? You could just try putting in a leave of absence for a month or so or an extended vacation.
Tell your boss that you have found a suitable replacement for one month and that you will pay him directly. Ask your boss for one month in advance pay and pay the dude/gal you "hire" $8.00 per hour plus tips.

Do the Food Network thing, do a nice job for them and pad your resume.

Then fire your "employee" and pay him/her when the PA job is over. Best of all worlds

Yes, telling people "we'll block your stats" and then secretly telling your paying customers the stats is not acceptable.

On top of that, there is disagreement about whether displaying a player's profitability by default is acceptable. PokerStars says it is not acceptable. SharkScope insists that they must be able to do this.

I might take this back. I didn't realize the 45 mans only last a little over an hour on average. Still doesn't look like he'll ever be getting more than 20 going at the same time though. Also, if they are so short I can't imagine his ROI is too ridiculous.

First, this is about dealing with your emotional response, not his. If you have to fire someone, I'm sure that you have good reasons, a legally sound position, and have probably spent a lot of time on the decision. So you have done your job well - congratulations. If you have to fire someone, it is unlikely that they are being successful in their job - so whether they know it at the moment or not, their future is not bright. Imagine you keep the guy on; he will gradually realise that he is not going to get promoted, or well paid, so he will become disgruntled and unhappy. You have helped him avoid this horrible experience, and it is horrible. If you had delayed, he would probably be in a much worse position - does anyone think it will be easier to get a job in 6 months?

Now to him: he was not in the right place. Maybe the position was wrong, maybe the company culture was wrong, but it was clearly not a job where he was going to make great achievements or achieve personal happiness. The trauma of losing his job will now make him reevaluate, and 9 times out of 10 people find something else they want to do that suits them better - losing a job truly is an opportunity.

I fired one of my best friends, a guy I'd known for over 15 years, and to make things worse, he was the finance director of my company. For two months I had meetings with the other directors, before having the awful meeting. He was a member of the Territorial Army (UK's Army Reserve), and he promptly took a year out to be deployed to Iraq at the tender age of 52. A lifetime experience that I know he treasures. There is no way he could have done this if he had continued working for me. Sadly, I have lost a friend - we haven't spoken since.

It's pretty impossible to do this; references are so legally difficult, all you can do is state the true verifiable facts, any opinions you may give are actionable, whether good or bad, and most employees know this.

And FWIW, now the weekend has finished, I'm back to running in Godmode!

Thanks for comments on my MTT hand - I think my c-bet was too large, 25k would have done the job, but meh.

Aren't all pokerstars player stats blocked if the player requested a block?

i have a degree (2 actually) in writing for tv/movies, so its what i went to school for. im mainly looking into writing in general though, maybe law, maybe journalism, since you can write a movie while doing anything else.

that being said, its not that i wouldnt have time to write doing the PA job, i just have so much down time at the restaurant that ive been writing a fair amount while working there. i do about 40-50 hours a week so far at the restaurant, depending on when we close etc.

i kind of like living month by month, at least right now in my life. i have march's rent covered easily, so working the month for the PA gig would bulken up my savings and give me all of march to line up something for april.

the "problem" i guess is that i have 2 projects that im trying to get off the ground right now, and theres no deadline for them so its just a matter of when things happen. i cant really do any sort of vacation or leave of absence, since the restaurant scene in NY is so oversaturated as it is, they usually just rehire someone within a week or so.

i find it interesting how a reference can be so different across different jobs. im not used to anything legal ever coming up in an interview or resume, something i guess ill run into in the future. a good heads up to keep in mind though.

most of the 16ers are bad, and im assuming the 18/45mans at those buyins run pretty fast. Obv its not an easy bet, but getting 3:1 its a steal.

How easy would it be for you to get another good restaurant job? I'd only take the PA thing if it was going to have an impact on you film/tv career and it'll be easy enough to get another job afterwards.

Geniuses.

So long as they are still profitable there is no real incentive to join a table selection pact, unless they can guarantee others will follow it. Once one defects they all defect leading to the punishment (lower roi/tougher games), but would rather deal with having tiny winrates than making 0 money at all.

Go placidly ....

I was just thinking how miraculous it is that I can sit in my home in the high mountains of Peru, switch on a computer, play a game for a few hours, earn $100,then go out to town and use a little piece of plastic to take my money out of a machine stuck in a wall. For 90% of my life this would have been impossible ... what a wonderful world!

Fairly easy, I think. After talking with me mum, I'm gonna take the PA job. It forces me to be thinking about the future, which is good for me and I'll get to travel all around NY for free

You'll just all have to watch the show "Chopped" whenever it's on and support me.
