Re: *** Official STTf February kakkendaaliluukku Thread - No lame BBV ***

I have Sirius in both mine and the wife's cars. I hardly use mine now that I got an Ipod that I can plug right into my Aux jack. It's just easier to download what I actually want to listen to (including podcasts). I do like the comedy and NFL stations though, but they seem to play so much random stuff on the actual music stations, i.e. one minute you'll be listening to Godsmack on "Octane", and the next minute it's some rando band no one's ever heard of.

Bluefeet's oldest daughter just got married last weekend, so I'm sure he knows the feeling as well. He just doesn't come around here much anymore.

I only talk to him infrequently, but things seem to be going well for him. He doesn't play poker anymore (at least for now), but I think he pwns at life pretty well.

I have a potential bet that I need an escrowe for. It would be a one week total profit at $20 DON's bet for most likely $500. Anyone in good standing who plays reasonably high that wouldnt mind doing this?

Re: *** Official STTf February kakkendaaliluukku Thread - No lame BBV ***

Living as I do, in a "developing" country, I am still astounded by the lack of awareness of people in the rich world, of how fundamentally their worlds have changed. For most of the century, the rich world has exploited the 3rd world; something it has been able to do because of it's advanced technology. This has resulted in an unbelievable high standard of living for the mediocre - the middle and working classes. In the last 20 years, computers and the internet have effectively transferred the competitive advantage of technology to the third world. This means that individual incomes are converging, and indeed must converge. A car designer can apply his skills from any country, and his employer couldn't care less where he lives, so long as he's good at his job. So the income of car designers should be equal, given due regard for ability, wherever they live. But an equivalent standard of living in a developing country needs a much smaller income than in a rich country, so a car designer who is accustomed to earning $100k in the US must compete with a guy from Brazil, who can live just as well on $30k. There is no way to protect the higher wages. They were a unique consequence of the old world order, there is literally no justification or reason why people of equal ability should not earn the same wherever they are. So hairdressers in Chicago, have been grossly overpaid for 50 years, a haircut costs $2 in the rest of the world, there is no earthly reason why it will continue to cost more in Chicago. The rich world is going to have to adjust to having a smaller share of the world's income (although in a globalised economy, the income pie is much bigger, so the smaller share is still big) - we in the West have had our cake and eaten it, we can't complain when the poor refuse to share it with us again.

Ok then, I'm sure we'll all look forward getting internet haircuts for $2. How crazy of western civilization to think they can keep people from other continents from offering cheap haircuts!

I'm also interested to hear about all of these car designers working from their home computers in 3rd world countries. Sure, it could happen, but designing cars is a pretty tough thing to learn own your own when you're isolated thousands of miles from rest of the industry.

Sounds like more expert financial analysis form the man who plays 25nl for a living but negotiates $100 million dollar business deals in his spare time.

nah, we're just cliquish so we still post here.

Sadly, Indiana became unprofitable so we exported the post of whipping boy to Peru. <-skipperbob-ish emoticon to make Indy feel like nothing has changed.

edit to add that HU is an awesomely profitable game for anyone that can exercise tilt control and not be too proud to quit a decent opponent. Personally I find myself wasting a lot of time with opponents that I'm marginally positive to neutral ev against just because I'm too proud to quit someone that isn't really better than me. Plus I tilt like a sonofabitch, so yeah, theres better games out there for me...
Happy to hear you've found your niche though.

Good ole Indy. Didn't you hear? We all quit poker and went back to college.

Quote:
This post is making me think that we should put a ban on the game just to keep all these smart young americans from throwing all their talent away on a card game. God dammit fellas, poker isn't supposed to be a profession, its supposed to be a side gig or a pasttime. All of these damn college students dropping out are gonna get the game banned and then what the [censored] am I gonna do for fun? Guess I'll have to get back into betting horses or something....

Take it from a guy who has made a lot of cash, money is not going to fulfill you when you are 30 yrs old like it does right now. Getting an education gives you a chance to contribute to society while making money...Just play poker for side income and mental stimulation...Stop trying to make it a [censored] profession.

Just my 2 cents,

Indy

barriers to entry and national borders will prevent this equilibrium from occurring for a long time
