This is a pretty huge misunderstanding.
From 1 March, PokerStars will drop the monthly requirement for Platinum Star to 7,500 VPPs, which means that you need to play 1500 $16 Sit & Go Tournaments a month to earn that level (down from 2,000).
If you maintain that level, you'll earn 12.5 FPPs per $16 Sit & Go Tournament. This has a value of 20c - an addition of 1.25% to your ROI (and representing rakeback of 20%). A FPP is worth about 1.6c (either through Supernova rebates, or through the various FPP satellites).
On top of that, there are the various other bonuses - access to the various tournaments and freerolls. 2p2 did an analysis of all this and found that the total rakeback value for a PlatinumStar player was 27.5% (
