So doesn't use HM2? Or any of the sites that don't have mac clients? What about games?

I got my Sony Viao for $800 a year ago and the only macbookpro that is comparable costs $1800. That's a big big price difference.

Macbooks are great for some things. Poker isn't one of them.

Yeah, just bought a laptop on sale for $650, equivalent macbook would be at least $1800. It's the same with desktops and macs though, Apple overprices everything.

I also like to do some gaming sometimes which won't fly with a mac.

What monitor would you recommend (around 27 inch)?

Budget is 200 gbp or 320 usd.

This Haitian guy at my job wants to buy my 5 year old MacBook (not pro) for 500 cash. This thing has a faulty fan that causes it to sound like a lawnmower. I'm thinking this is a snap call for 500 but I'm worried about having to see him at work after he realizes this thing is slow as hell and sounds awful.

Anyways, check out the links below.

USB 3.0 to DisplayPort Adapter

USB 3.0 Docking Station
A. I started with the 3.0 adapter. It was simple enough to look up that it was a 3.0 and not a 2.0 for my laptop (my laptop - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834230408 - ASUS G75 Series G75VW-NS71 Notebook Intel Core i7 3610QM(2.30GHz) 17.3" 12GB Memory DDR3 1600 500GB HDD 7200rpm DVD±R/RW NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M)

I paid about 100 dollars to get it delivered to my house from newegg, but I do not see anything to hook up my monitor to. I guess there's some cord or something I'm still missing because no way my big white monitor cable can plug into this tiny hole in the adapter.

Does anyone know what type of cord would be needed to get this baby hooked up to a 30 inch dell monitor?

B. Would the Fujitsu dock station work for an ASUS laptop? Can you maybe recommend another dock station that could get me 1600x1200 resolution that I get on newegg or somewhere else that I could get overnight shipped.

Thanks for all your help everyone!

It sounds like you have one of those older DELL 30-inchers that don't have displayport-input but rather only DVI-input.
If that's the case you need either
1.) Displayport -> Dual-link-DVI -adapter or
2.) Displayport-Dual-link-DVI-cable

When purchasing one, make sure it really is Dual-link or you will be capped at 1920x1200 resolution!

I'm not really familiar with USB-docking stations but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
If you manage to get the USB-thingy you already bought to work, you won't need one though.

Find out what vid card you have, the rest of the specs seem like they shouldn't have a problem with it. Maybe get a 680 or 670 or something for a new vid card.

Right click the taskbar and click "Start Task Manager". Screen shot the Processes (sorted by memory) and Performance tab. Post pics ITT.

Make sure you are playing when you do this.

I got a - Displayport -> Dual-link-DVI -adapter at Frye's electronics, and downloaded the drivers online. Finally, at last, I'm up and running.

What an amazing sight to see it actually working haha. It's great!
Happy Holidays to you all and thanks for the technical assistance.

Oh, is the dell 30 inch a good monitor? I was thinking about getting a back up monitor sometime soon. Any suggestions for a good value on a 30 inch?

Regards

Now that I finally got the monitor working, I'd like to get a nice set of speakers so I can listen to music when I'm grinding online. I noticed my system supports a high quality sound. Can you suggest a nice set of speakers at a good value?

Thanks

Is something like this decent enough as an every day laptop with occasional grinding. Prob no more than 12 tables at any time. Music, browsing web, maybe watch some tv every now and again.

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/samsun....html#longDesc

Deciding to replace My old laptop of 5 yrs+, so not looking to spend a stupid amount for a new flashy laptop, just looking for something that will last and will suit day to day use.

That laptop has basically a 3 year old processor in it. Find something with an intel i3/i5 in it. Otherwise its' fine.

Try this one instead. I have it running 12 tables on a 1600x900 screen with PT4 and zero lag. Same screen size. Has an empty slot inside to add an SSD. Bought a 256gb ssd to make the primary drive and am using the one it comes with for storage.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009JXK17G/

Been recommending this a lot, pretty sick laptop. (not sure where you'll find it for the UK though)

Is there a smaller version of that? Or something similar? Looks like a sick laptop, but 17" seems kinda big for travel.
