It's basically a 20inch monitor. Not really great for 12 table tiling.

I actually ordered this pc. It seems really nice. However, I couldn't plug in my dell 30 inch monitor. So I got a female to male adapter and plugged in my dell monitor, but I still have not figured out how to get the the dual set up with the 30m inch monitor in my options.

Can anyone help?

I went to the options and set it up for multiple displays but I'm still getting a blank screen on the dell.

Best Regards

Plugs? I have a blue female entry port on the new laptop and the Dell Monitor has a Male plug.

I'm not sure if that's enough info is there something else I could look up?

Thanks!

The female to male adapter I bought seems to be connecting the monitor. It's showing up in the display options as being connected, but only the monitor on my laptop works - the dell monitor is a blank screen.....

The monitor, by default, will have a cable with a male plug. Your computer, by default, will have female inputs. Why do you need an adapter? Can you find pictures of these plugs since you don't know the names?

A. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834230408

ASUS G75 Series G75VW-NS71 Notebook Intel Core i7 3610QM(2.30GHz) 17.3" 12GB Memory DDR3 1600 500GB HDD 7200rpm DVD±R/RW NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M

B. Dell 3007WFPHC 30 inch LCD Monitor
http://accessories.dell.com/sna/prod...p&sku=222-7175

I guess the cord that I have connected the monitor is a bigger male than the female monitor. It goes right into my old macbook pro and fits but it's a big white connector. So I used a DVI-A FEMALE TO HDD/VGA MALE ADAPTER.

Does that help?

Thanks!

You need a DVI-D to HDMI connector to get full resolution.

Just a warning, I've never used this type of cable so I cannot say 100% certainty that it will work. In theory DVI-D and HDMI use the same video signals, so it should work.

Edit: From the product link:

This cable delivers high level of signal quality, as well as full 1080p resolution for truly high-definition experience. It’s shielded for maximum protection from RFI and EMI to transfer data without loss and error, which delivers a high data transfer bandwidth of 10.2 Gbps.
It says 1080p (you want 1600p), but it also says DVI-D. It's at least a tossup that it works. Either way, you need a DVI-D to HDMI to get that monitor to work with that laptop.

The monitor is up and running after I purchased the adapter that you reccomended at Fry's electronics.

That was really awesome! However, there's an issue with my resolution settings. I getting 1920x1080 on the laptop and only 1280 x 800 on the 30" monitor. I'm hoping there is a way for me to change the settings but the drop down box won't allow me to increase the resolution right now.

Do you think this is fixable? If not, can you recommend a different monitor?

Thanks for you help and happy Thanksgiving!

It's really tough for me to say. I've ran a 1080p monitor off a similar laptop videocard, and according to the internet, you should be able to push out full resolution.

http://www.nvidia.in/object/geforce-gtx-670m-in.html

Quote:
Dual-link DVI Support Able to drive industry's largest and highest resolution flat-panel displays up to 2560x1600 and with support for High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP).
Sorry, but that's the limit that I can help you. It might be worth it to find a local expert to see if they can help you out. Might be worth $100 over buying a new monitor you may not even get working either.

I appreciate all the help. Anyone have any tips on where I can take my pc to be setup in the Las Vegas area. Is Fry's electronics any good?

Thanks!

i gotta find a good CHEAP laptop/notebook for general use AND occasional Poker grind....
what do you guys think about this:

i know its not high performance or anything but again, im on a budget and i'm not trying to run 24 tables+ on 3 different sites with HEM while i watch movies or anything.
....I just need something that will handle normal usage + moderate poker grinding(multitabling up to 10 tables on occasion with HEM/PT while browsing web)

Try Friendly Computers. I had them break down and install an SSD into my laptop over the summer.

Pop,

I'm 99.9% certain you're not going to get 1600p resolution out of that laptop.
Yes, the GFX-card in the laptop is capable of the high-res but as usual, the manufacturer of the laptop forgot to include a capable output!
VGA or HDMI just aren't going to cut it.
You'd need either displayport- or dual-link-DVI- output.

Get another laptop with displayport or settle on running a monitor w 1080p or 1200p res thru HDMI.

The above is somewhat incorrect. HDMI can support WQXGA, 1600p, as of 2006. It would seem quite silly for his laptop HDMI port not to support a 30".

HDMI and DVI-D have essentially the same exact video signal.

Yes, theoretically HDMI is capable of that resolution.
The bottleneck however is the connectors used.

There are multiple types of HDMI connectors. I'd bet a lot of money that the laptop in question has type A connector on it.

1.) Type A is electrically compatible with single-link DVI-D (not sufficient for 1600p)

2.) Type B is electrically compatible with dual-link DVI-D (sufficient for 1600p), but has not yet been used in any products

HDMI-type A = single-link-DVI

EDIT: USB 3.0 might work, tho!

What do you guys think about this? Gonna be using it for multiple clients, hem, Skype, web surfing. I have a desktop already so I'll use this in travel and going to coffee ships to grind also.

OMG - So I need to return it to Newegg.com?

I hope they let me return it. I found the laptop straight out of this thread I thought for sure it would be great for playing online poker. OH NO!

What's a USB 3.0? Should I try that first?

Thanks

Seems silly for the standard to have been in place since 2006 but not actively be used.

shrug
