Dell has put their UltraSharp U3011 on sale for $999 CDN a few times lately; so just over 1k with taxes.

Anyone in here with video editing experience?

I run a PC with Win 7 ultimate and need to get video editing software to do a contract job adding in subtitles and statistics frames to training videos.

I have done similar work in the past but it's been several years and there's been huge leaps in technology since then.

got a question : will http://www.laptopsreviewprice.com/20...10-laptop.html be sufficient for 15-20 tables grind (sngs on pokerstars) + TN + HEM + browser and things like winamp, movie player ? i know its far from ideal, (after reading this entire thread) but wondering if ill be able to grind without laggs and spikes, before i get my hands on something more pro? thank you.

Anyone know what kind of backpack I need to buy that will fit a 17" ASUS G73 laptop? I just ordered an Everki Beacon after doing a little research but I'm just wondering if anyone else has this machine and a bag it fits in that can confirm.

edit: Also, was buying the G73 as a desktop replacement for grinding a good idea in the first place? It's refurbished from Newegg.

Why doesn't anyone use the Apple 27''? Too small for the resolution? I was thinking of replacing my 2x24'' 1920x1200 with 2x27'' but they might end up being too small for the resolution?

Ugh if only there would be decent huds for Macs

i use it with an iMAc, but rather buy a normal, matte 30" + windows computer.

They're so much more expensive than the Apple Monitors and they seem worse in specs. In plus I don't think I would like 2x30'' rather than 2x27'' ...

i def prefer 2x 30" then 2 times 27... ainec

most desktops will or can be arranged to, you need a displayport and a good enough graphics card. 90%+ notebooks dont have displayport, only macbooks, highend dells and HPs I think do

For a desktop you just need dual link dvi, the majority of desktops will come with it these days and is a fairly cheap video card upgrade otherwise

Ultimately looking into getting a new computer to run one of these dell 30's. Has anybody had any experience with this monitor? Is it worth it, and are there better alternatives... I haven't been able to find much out there in the realm of 30's.

Thanks

Can someone please recommend for me the best, fastest, reasonably priced Toshiba laptop w/ 17.3 inch screen?
The most expensive one I can find is like $1600 but obv that does not mean it's the best...

What I need it for: I have 2nd flat screen, run 3-4 browser windows w/ 5-10 tabs each simultaneously, plus itunes, skype, aim, etc...

I mean if you just run a few browsers, plus skype etc I doubt you need an expensive laptop.
Reminds me of this.

What to choose: Sony Vaio "15,5 or Acer Timeline X "15,6 or some Dell machine with "17,3?

If by Dell u mean something out of their business lineup ie Precision ones, go with one of them.
If not ie u mean some of their customer-crap, ur prolly better off w a Vaio.

Running usual 2x dell 2007fp in portrait @ 1600 x 1200 with a 30" landscape @ 2560 x 1600 in the middle.

Got two choices
1. Can run 3 monitors off newish Radeon HD6850 1Gb DDR5 (DVI-D, DVI-D, DP, HDMI). Need to buy DP to DVI-D active adapter (no DP on 30")
which is...
2. Same price as Radeon HD5450 1Gb DDR3 (DVI-D, HDMI, VGA)

Got a 750w Modular PSU and 2x PCIE slots so thinking I have power and bay space to run two cards rather than a converter cable. May add HDMI TV so may benefit from the extra output with two cards(?).

Planning on hooking 1x 2007fp and 30" to the HD6850 and 1x 2007 to the HD5450 all by DVI-D.

Anyone foresee any thing catching fire / frying if i go for the two card option?

Thanks in advance

I had trouble getting the 3rd monitor to 'activate' and at times the adapter needed to be pulled out and plugged back in to make it work. My PC guy (who was very good) tried all sorts of stuff and couldn't get it going.

I'm just about to have the card replaced with 2 x nVidia cards so I can run all 3 monitors on DVI without an adapter. Your PC won't catch on fire (lol). 2 x cards is common. My old PC had 2 x entry level nVidia cards and they worked perfectly.
I had a disgusting situation over the weekend where I had to set up a PC to go with 2 x 30" Dell monitors, the graphics card I had was the Radeon 7970 which had 1 x DVI-D, 1 x HDMI, 2 x Mini DP.

It wasn't originally the card I wanted to use as it doesn't have 2 x DVI-D but it said it comes with adapters for HMDI to DVI and Mini-DP to DVI so I figured that'll be OK.

The plan was to have both monitors do 2560 x 1600 but that didn't happen! Only one of the monitors getting a very crisp 2560 x 1600 as it was plugged in with DVI-D whilst the other one was going at 1600 x 1200 when I used DP mini to DVI adapter.

When I used the HMDI to DVI adapter it would reach 1920 x 1080 which wasn't good as the aspect ratio was screwed, I then got a HDMI cable to plug it to go 1920 x 1200. Against it wasn't acceptable.

When I plugged in a 30" Apple monitor via the mini DP port (it required a USB too) it displayed 2560 x 1600 with no problems.

I know the graphics card isn't the issue so it looks like I just need to get a mini DP to Display Port from Amazon and the misery will be over.

Very surprised the adapters limit the output to 1600 x 1200, if I wanted that resolution I'd buy a few 20" monitors lol.

I have to say, 3 x 30" Monitors is sick!
