Loads of breakeven/tiny winners in 180s at the minute. Because they win so little they never 'move on' to bigger things meaning the games get more and more reg infested.
If instead of simply looking at Nash and open shipping X amount of hands from Y position because it is profitable, they instead thought 'oh theres a more optimal way' and started r/c r/f with 20bb-10bb stats they could become better winners allowing them more profit and the opportunity to move on to better bigger things, meaning not as many b/e regs.

I'm struggling to explain what I mean and the next bit even more so, cant think of right terms this is frustrating but by open shipping with nash the player knows what range is profitable to call with and its just going to increase variance because of situations, fk i cant even explain my thoughts properly.

Pretty sure variance shouldn't increase dramatically because "bad" regs have a bigger openshoving range instead of a wider r/c or r/f range. The fact that they are tiny winners and have a lower winrate should be evidence enough that it dosen't increase "good" regs variance to the degree you imply id think.

I see what rich is getting at, it's certainly possible for other players' mistakes to cost you equity in SNGs. And being forced to take lots of thin +EV spots vs hundreds of mediocre backed/coached grinders will inevitably affect variance.
Of course we don't want people to play optimally though! That was a poor choice of words.

If "bad" regs are open shipping too many BB maybe it means variance is higher but they are called "bad" for a reason - the winrate will be lower, and obv if they improved and did less huge open shoving their winrate would be higher -> taking more from the prize pool
So I mean I think this is of small/marginal effect full stop but at most them doing this increases variance slightly in favour of a higher roi whereas maybe if they stopped variance decreases but so does roi since they would be taking more away from the prizepool on average with a higher roi =/

But then u really need a pretty big sample for the variance to even out esp at 180s no?
