Ive just started playing a local tournament that has an odd structure. I was hoping someone in the forum could help me with the best stratagy for this.It is a $30 buy in and normally gets about 100-120 players the payotu is

The starting stack is 17000 and the blinds go 50/100 100/200 200/400 300/600 500/1000 and double every level with no antes.

The players are very tight passive. with no 3b unless they have aces. some can be major stations that cant let go of tp on a 4 flush board.

It iss not uncommon for there to be 2 or 3 tables left by the 5000/10000 level with the av stack around 6-10bb

What would be the best stratagy for this tournament? How much does the fact there are no antes affect short stack play?

Don't play in the first place...sounds dumb. No antes is basically playing pot-limit holdem tourneys online. Make your shoves tighter since no antes in the middle...run well. It's basically a crapfest. LOL @ 6-10bbs with 18-27 ppl left. Just go play a diff tourney.

just play tight when you still have room left, they r gonna shove to tight and call to tight when it gets down to 10bb so you still can have some nice edge

thx for the feed back..knew it was a crapshoot but there isnt much else around to play. I seem to always make the final 3 tables but from there have trouble. I havent tried praying after I ship guess it cant hurt.

The part that is dumb is that they are raking 25+% from the BI. I play in a decent amount of local tourneys around my hometown and none of them have antes. Outside of a casino no antes is very common. A lot of these tourneys did turn into 2-3 tables with mostly short stacked as OP described, but they were far more profitable for me than casino tourneys I played in. One reason being is that they also didn't rake or took very little from the BI.

almost like an mttsng? ive had a similar experience at my local spot. it was a 20r$ 4 table tourny without antes, the play was horrible and even worse cause of the structure.

my strategy was simply stay above 4-5bb because thats a decent stack w/o antes.
