I have 20 BB. I'm in the money.

I'm in the SB with Jh9s.

UTG+1 calls. I've noted that this player is LAG.

I elect just to call.

BB calls.

Flop is 5sQd8d.

I check, BB checks UTG+1 checks.

Turn is Ts.

There's two flush draws on the board, but I've made a straight. I also have the 9s, which makes the spade flush less likely.

I bet quarter pot.

BB folds. UTG+1 calls.

River is a 9c.

So, no flush, but if they have KJ they beat my straight. I know that's extremely unlikely. My real question is how to size this, as I want a call. But I don't know if I should jam this.

I put in half pot. UTG+1 calls. They had A9o.

I probably bet more than 1/4 pot on the turn. You're giving the flush draw correct odds to continue and even though you have a spade blocker you don't want to do that, especially not with a hand strong enough to call off on the river if the flush gets there. 1/2 or even 2/3 pot probably still gets called by some hands you beat or some draws.

I wouldn't jam river-- as played that's like a 3x pot bet. I think your bet is fine. Not sure if you should go bigger here, but I wouldn't choose a bet sizing so big that it's only getting called by chops or KJ.

You won more on this hand than I would have. Excellent call with J9o which is something I would do too.

On the turn I bet at least half pot as Nath notes. Typically I will bet a bit more than half pot (like 70%) on the turn. Because there are two flush draws now I bet more than half pot because more than half the deck will cause people to fold on the river (flushes and boats being possible) so we are less likely to win money on the river.

I doubt A9o would have called a larger bet on the turn but then there was no reason for A9o to call the small bet either...

Bet closer to pot on turn and jam river.

When you bet turn you need to consider what your move on the river will be. By betting so small, you put yourself in awkward position on river…

I think most of our range here wants to bet big on the turn, so I'm more inclined to go something like half to two-thirds on turn. However, once we get the four liner on the river, we probably want to size down as we're trying to get 76 (and worse) to call off and they may not always do so when we jam.

i like preflop and flop play.

turn id bet 2/3 pot, which provides better protection for your single pairs (hello qxs) and small 2 pairs that want overcards and straight draws to fold, all of which are backed up nicely by 16 nut straight combos(some of which have flush redraws).

river vs 2 opponents i think depends on stake level. at micros id bet 2/3 to pot(erring towards pot vs huge donks). at significant stakes id check and almost always call normal sized river bets except when action explodes(nut kj straights and all flushes are too likely).

The bets are fine I think given the stacks and action.

Jamming river would only make sense if he can put you on a busted draw or just trying to push him off the pot, judging by his call though I think you bet the right amount.

2/3 bet turn.

With the river 9, im betting, but smaller than i would have if that 9 didn't show up., (maybe 1/3-2/3).
This way, he's getting a *reasonable* price to call with worse hands.
This also protects you from the KJ- if he raises you, now you have a tougher decision... Would probably still call, but not afraid to fold, depending on some things (Villian, and ICM).

If the river was a brick, I'd go heavy for value (if that isn't obvious) with a pot size bet or maybe even a 1.5x
