How To Adjust GTO Ranges to the Microstakes How To Adjust GTO Ranges to the Microstakes

Hi all!

As the title states, I'm having trouble adjusting GTO ranges to the microstakes, notably my open shoving ranges, 3-bet shove ranges, and shove call ranges. I felt like I had more success in this area of MTTs when using my own ranges, which I calculated in HRC. I calculated these ranges, then modified them to be tighter and have more +EV shoves/calls.

I then moved on to BBZ's ranges, which have dramatically improved my game in certain aspects. However, I feel that the open shoving ranges, 3-bet shove ranges, and shove call ranges may not be so applicable to the microstakes. I believe people call too wide in the microstakes in most spots, especially with ICM considerations, causing certain combos to be less profitable.

Do you guys agree with my assessment of the microstakes pool? If so, to what extent do we adjust our GTO ranges? What extent do we adjust our GTO ranges with ICM?

I think I would need some specific examples of what you think needs to change and why to offer any real advice.

In general, how we adjust our ranges with ICM depends on how strong the effect is. The broad advice I'd give is that you want to be a little tighter but also adjust your opening and especially shoving ranges to be more blocker-heavy, because fold equity is really important and you don't want to put yourself at risk. There's a chapter in Endgame Poker Strategy that specifically breaks down final-table range adjustments.

With regards to ICM and GTO, this GTOWizard video does a pretty good of explaining some of the adjustments you make with regards to ICM. (hint, you do a lot less calling in many situations and much more 3-bet/fold strategies)

I would play very loose early in a micro tourney and very tight in the endgame unless i have tight players to my left. There is no need to make marginally +chip ev shoves if youre getting action with your strong hands, and this applies at any stake. The smaller your stack relative to the field, the less all this matters.
