Fold/Push on this SB vs BB situation? Live MTT Fold/Push on this SB vs BB situation? Live MTT

Hey,

Would like to hear some opinions about this particular scenario.

- Playing a $2500 Buy-in Live MTT 4-day tournament, I'm in Day-1.
- 6 players on the table, although it's a 9-max MTT. I'm sitting on the BB with 30BB and a pair of Eights, there is a BB ante (2BB)
- Everyone folds to the SB who limps, I raise to 3BB, limp 3Bets to 12BB.

What would you do on this situation?

Any help is appreciated!

I am assuming at 30 bbs on day 1, you have a well below average stack. I think I jam, as you should be well ahead of SB's limp-raise range (assume he has a much bigger stack?) and have plenty of FE.

Thanks for the quick reply! Sorry, I forgot to include that Villain covers me but by not much, around 40BB.

I think that makes it closer, as it should tighten up Sb's limp/raise range. Still think jam>fold>call since you are committing more than 1/3 of your chips on a call with a very vulnerable hand which will not like most flops. You being IP is the only thing a call has going for it.

I would fold. A limp raise to 12bb is 40% effective stack and is pot committing basically. SB will never fold to a jam.

SB's range is likely AK/AQs/TT+ or something similar. At best we are flipping but likely we are crushed.

I think calling is wrong because we will be calling 33% effective stack and even if there are no overcards to an 8 on the flop and SB jams its not a good spot.

Jam or fold based on stack size. I think I would raise 3.5-4bb in position and against someone I “should” have a range advantage over in a limp sb scenario. As played? Idk maybe exploit fold against a nit and maybe stack off- go all in against more aggro players.

When you make it 3, villian has to call 2 to compete for a 7bb pot and needs 28.57% equity to continue (maybe a tad more as they will have a disadvantage out of position). I also want to build a pot in position against villian and have ability to bluff- aka this spot I’m going to cbet a lot of Kxx flops and Axx type flops that favor us when they just flat or raise pre.

This spot as described- I honestly don’t know what I would do. I’m a spazz so I might shove. Fold may be good though? I guess a good way to look at this- would villian do this with 77 or 66- a hand that pips worse than our hand or something like A7 or A6?

Read on the opponent would tilt me one way or another here. A lot of young pro-ey types like to get cute with this limp 3 bet stuff from the SB (I'm not a big fan of it myself) and might have something as weak as A2s. Contrarily, if it's a tight player, you probably should fold.

In the absence of any information I agree with Rick that we should fold, but it's close - 99 is probably an all in for me.

Without reads, seems like easy fold. He is committing stacks. This looks to me like a mid pp / big ace, not like AA/KK. At this stakes, he could be doing it somewhat light, but I would not pay to find out. He is not completely bluffing. You would hope for a smaller pp or suited ace.
