Defend 74s Multiway? Defend 74s Multiway?

Near the bubble in a $600 live tournament. I have around 24 BB. EP raises to 2.1 BB with a covering stack. Seems decent no reads. MP (weak seeming old guy) cold calls. It folds around to me in the BB with 74s. Call or fold? The table is pretty tight and a semibluff can probably get through.

I would have flopped a big combo draw and hit the flush on the turn, so it got me wondering whether this is a hand we should defend. It seems marginal, considering: we don't have enough of a stack to realize our implied odds when we hit; we are too low to hit a reliable top pair often; and we have fewer OESD possibilities due to being double gap suited. But obviously calling would have had a good result, so it got me thinkin'.

With 27 bb's its an auto call for me.

But here near the bubble I will typically fold this hand with 24 bb's.

Fold- it’s a punt in a spot where min cashing should be priority when you somehow flop some equity and a x raise doesn’t work.

Maybe heads-up Vs ep, maybe we can call (I’m still a fan of just sigh folding and preserving stack with 74s- prolly could defend 75s). With the cold call- we just don’t have enough equity and have to tighten up our x raise range against 2 villians. I would just fold and move on. I wouldn’t look at what the flop and turn would be and go- omg that was a bad move by me. What happens when flip is A39 and you x fold? Which is going to be the common scenario in this situation. What about it the flop is K73. Is it fun calling and floating on a shallow stack in the most important stage of the tourny? Nope.

This was exactly my thinking. You don't want to have lottery type hands when you are near the bubble, unless the big flops are cleaner for you. You can call pairs here for set mining, but these small 2 gappers are trouble. Sorry I just said fold the first time, I should have said more or less what JK said

74s is pretty close multi-way. The nice thing about the hand is that most of the time when we connect our outs are clean and our stack-off threshold shouldn't be that big because the SPR is only going to be about ~4. But it's probably close enough to break even that folding is ok.

I think folding is fine if you're actually this close to the money. The price is good and you're closing the action, but it's a pretty weak draw and you could be in a spot where you have to put your Tournament Life at risk. (Which isn't always your top concern, but it is a much stronger concern on the bubble or otherwise when pay jumps are high.)

My heart says call and my brain says fold. Whatever the hell that means!

If I also have a bb ante in the middle, I am completing and closing the action here but, as everyone else noted, it is a lotto hand (and your flush may not be good).

theory fold, can expand if you know how to play low boards from BB multi-way and know how to exploit the villains.
