I don't live in Michigan anymore, and the only time I visit is to see family and friends. The tournaments aren't big enough to justify travelling there at all. I don't really miss Michigan beside for the people that live there I'm close with. The state is awful and there's a 0% chance I ever live there again.
Just wanted to bump this thread for a bit of an update. I've moved to Canada (recently downtown Vancouver) and am really loving it. I've been playing a lot of high stakes cash/live MTTs and have had a lot of success live. Sadly I've done very well online at 400NL-2000NL, but every time I take a shot at 5000NL-10KNL it seems to go poorly. I still play those limits, but most of my profit comes from the lower stakes and online/live tournaments.
Before Black Friday I was just starting to become very good at tournaments both online and live. Once I turned 18 I was able to play some big live ones, and have had a great amount of success at them. I've also done very well in online MTTs, and think I finally have a positive ROI overall online. I have spent most of my time playing online cash though, and I really enjoy playing. The only time I really play MTTs is on Sundays, WCOOP/SCOOP, and other big series.
I'm just not interested in grinding them hard anymore. They are very boring to me unless it's a big, preferably deeper stacked tournament, and this is the main reason I love live MTTs. I've also been playing high stakes live cash for the last couple years with a lot of success. Live is really fun to me and I think I'm better at it than the vast majority of online players. Live is just a totally different game, and I see a lot of online players making huge mistakes...even very good online MTT players who have a ton in profits. I started off playing live very spewy and it took me a while to adjust for sure, but once I did I started to understand how much different the live and online games were.
As for the non poker side of things, I really love downtown Vancouver. It's the nicest city in the world I've been to, and to live here really is amazing. I live in a one bedroom condo to myself which is also my first time living completely on my own without a roommate. It has its pros and cons, but I prefer it over having roomies for sure. I actually moved in to the 1br expecting to have my girlfriend over a lot, whom I dated for a couple months before we broke up. It was a fun relationship, and we're still friends, but it just didn't really work out.
Feel free to keep asking questions ITT. I get a ton of random PMs from underage players asking me for advice etc. which I think is kind of funny. I tend to not reply to them for the most part, but when I do I basically just tell them to stay in school and not let poker consume their high school lives. I really missed out on so much, and to some degree I regret it. I still have a ton of great non poker friends, and I really enjoy the game of poker and the lifestyle it comes with...but I think trying harder in school, both in studies and socially would've given me a lot of other opportunities instead of just poker.
I'm not too sure what I'm going to be doing after my time in Vancouver. I can only stay here for 6 months on a visitors visa, but I'm going to apply for an extension in my last month here. Apparently if you apply by mail, you can stay for as long as they're reviewing your application, which can take up to 3-4 months at least. If I'm denied, at least I'll have been able to live in Canada for 8-10 months. Hopefully another place appeals to me as much as Vancouver has. I really didn't fall in love with Mexico when I lived there for a few months. I've been thinking about moving to the Bahamas to play after Canada, as it's closer to family/friends in MI, and close to FL which has the best tournaments/cash games in the world for a non 21 year old. Who knows where I'll be in 6 months though.
Thanks for reading, and again feel free to ask more questions in this thread. It is a well after all!
