Should we have played this any differently? Besides betting bigger otf, how would you play this? Once the board gets ugly can we just throw our hand away?

I wouldn't bet bigger otf. Your HH conversions unfortunately don't post pot size on each street.

Turn is super gross, but I'd rather bet than check. I think when we check we leave our hand face up as AQ, maybe AK. I think bet turn c/f river is probably best.
