The tournament I play regularly in has these conditions:
- 50 Big Blinds
- 20 minute levels
- Re-buys for the first several levels
- $50 entry fee
- 18 players total
I have classified this as 2 table re-buy turbo in the title, hope I got that right.
I am getting exploited badly in this structure and am doing quite poorly for a few reasons.
The players tend to be more aggressive then me, have good reading and exploitative skills, and they are very happy to re-buy if they bust. Because of the the aggressive play and the structure, after just a few levels one hand will pot commit you if you want to continue past the flop. A pre-flop raise and a few c-bets is your whole stack.
Being happy to re-buy, many players are pushing hard with either no pair, bottom pair, or top pair. They will back off sometimes, but are mostly are applying max pressure to you.
Under these circumstances, I'm usually forced to either commit my entire stack with a marginal hand, or just fold a lot when I miss the flop. If I hit a big hand it is great, but with this fast turbo structure I may only hit one or two hands the entire tournament.
People are re-buying multiple times and I'm playing tighter, and eventually I'm down to 10 big blinds and start shoving all-in.
Can anyone give me advice on how to adjust to beat this format?
I asked in another thread if studying GTO would be the way to improve, but most people said no.
What do you suggest?
Thanks very much.
