Bad shove or ok? Bad shove or ok?

Hey just wanted a check on this hand plz.

There are 18 left 9 get paid 80 runners to start, NLHE. 3k up top min cash $350. $160 buy in. 2500/5000 w BB ante. The table seems somewhat skilled. I have 30k behind after posting BB and ante. There is a flat call from middle position with about 40k behind. The SB raises to ~15k. I have KQo. I shove and MP folds. SB tanks and says he's priced in and calls.

Bad shove?

I felt like since I was going to be at about 7 BBs I needed to do something. I don't like that I shoved against a raise from a big stack. He calls and says I hope you have XX. He was dead on the money regarding my hand.

What would you have done?

Actually 10 get paid and $350 or so is the min cash. I am in the BB if that wasn't obv.

We have almost no FE. Folks shouldn’t be folding to an under 10bb jam when they raise pre or it’s a huge mistake. I might just sigh fold here and wait for a better spot where we are first in or calling in a +ev to nash spot where someone else jams.

Yeah thanks, I don't have a solver but I ran the hand in a calculator and as I thought I was 60/40. So I guess it wasn't great but not totally horrible.

I played somewhat well up to that point and was embarrassed that my hand was called out by the caller in the SB as I busted. Conversely it seemed the SB felt it would be the bottom of my shove range, calling the hand out exactly.

The caller has A4dd.

Unless the other stacks are also ridiculously short this is probably your best chance.

ICM sucks but you are in the BB with great price for your "call".

Yeah I put this in SNG Wiz (I'm old school) and chip EV comes up a very close shove.

I was the second shortest on the table. IIRC

I have always been confused about chip EV and ICM on the final two tables paying 10th. (two 9 handed tables)

Given how far you are from the money I wouldn't expect ICM to be a significant factor here. Final two tables really matter by ICM in larger fields because reaching the final table gives you such a good chance to get significant pay jumps, but here you still need almost 50% of the field to be eliminated to make any money at all. At least I think that's the right way to think about a spot like this.

Getting it in is probably a fine play. It's not ideal, but being as short as you are, you probably have to take this spot with a hand this good. At this point it's 30k for you to win 50k (Your BB, the BB ante, the limper's 5k, plus the 35k from the SB), so you need to be about 37.5% to break even before factoring in any ICM effect. You're rarely dominated and could be dominating if villain is raising KJ/QJs type hands here.

Thanks, I have gone thru so many scenarios on the sim that my muscle memory said shove here. I
never think I am that far off but I try to be as precise as I can.
