Very early in the tourney. Hero just sat down into the BB, and lost about 10k with J9s (co opens, bu flats, hero calls J9hh from bb, 887ddh x around, tJd x, co bets 2/3rd bu folds, h calls r5s, x/c 2/3rd co had AdJx). Starting this hand with 20k at 300/500 level 500 bb ante.

UTG makes it 1k, +1 calls. Both covers Hero. Hero flat, sb and bb comes in and it's a 5 way flop

(5.5k): 542 sb, bb and UTG check, +1 bets 4k, hero?

- Is AJs just a flat at 40bb deep since the PFR came from UTG?
- Plan on the flop?

Hard to say not knowing what UTG typically opens with and what your image is but I think both flatting or raising pre could be valid.

I don’t know what solvers say but I’m jamming that flop.

With almost 10K in the pot, I think our hand is Just way too strong to not jam with flop action. UTG+1 hand is almost always a medium pair that’s going to shrug call off which means our A and J are often live.

Always flatting AJs pre. Maybe very low frequency 3-bet to something like 4-4.6k but then we have to be ready to fold to a rip.

I'm always flatting vs UTG open pre-flop.

I have mixed feelings on the flop. UTG+1 can have a set or A3/54s and just calling could get a call from the SB/BB/UTG which grows the pot at less cost to us. The flip side is a jam can add a couple outs if UTG has AK and decides to call the flop bet. Similarly, one of the blinds could have 6x which takes away 3 of our outs. So I would jam the flop and hope for the best.

Because where the PFR is coming from, is AJs always a call? Do you guys mix AJo?

Do you 3b AQo and flat AQs or is AQ pure 3b?

I typically 3-bet both AJ and AQ but not against a UTG open. Unless the UTG is young and GTOish (so wide opens).

Good luck post. I don’t see not jamming or raising and planning to call a jam- I might make it 10-12k to make my hand a little obvious here and just call off to a jam. Idk overpairs like 10-10/99 might call and we have all the outs. Even against qq or kk we have 12 outs. Good luck op.

I think I don’t mind 3! Pre but more likely to do it with AJo Vs AJsuited . I like the play and think getting it in on flop is fine. Just sucks when we run into overpairs or sets obviously.

Utg can have A3 suited also. Think I just jam flop or raise plan to call off.

Thanks for all the responses. In the moment I thought preflop call could've been a raise or a call. However, the thought of making it 4k pre, and fold if utg jams wasn't appealing. If I call and a 3b came from behind I can release and move on.

AP, h jams, only +1 calls and he holds with 54.
