Hey guys,

This year I'll be graduating from college with a Business Major and Film Minor. I've been working with Kickstarter (google it) to fund my documentary that I'll be shooting with one of my classmates.

I'm making this thread because I've been working with Kickstarter for a week now, and saw PLO UFO's thread about making a poker documentary about a high stakes player. Some people responded well, some not.

Much of the criticism seemed to agree with my idea for a documentary. Shows like from Busto to Robusto and the Micros cater specifically to poker players while the MTV Jenks show caters completely to the opposite spectrum.

This documentary will seek to inform the public about what's going on today. Here's what I have pitched to Kickstarter. I am working with them to get my idea approved.

Pending Name : Black Friday

A film dedicated to tracing the development of on-line gambling in the United States and the impact the recent government indictments have had on this huge community.
We will be following different sources discussing the rise of online poker, various success stories (and potential degenerate stories), the professionalism behind the industry, and how the recent seizure of funds has affected American players.
The film seeks to introduce the rest of the world to this hidden community. Documentaries from Busto to Robusto and cartoons like the Micros are all designed for poker players, by poker players. This will be directed towards everyone.

The goal here is to seek money from people on kickstarter and 2+2. I'm passionate about both film and poker. Also, my film professor said he'd guide me with the narrative of the documentary. I have experience in story boarding, shot lists, CELTIX script editor, overhead shots, final cut, all the technical stuff you learn in through a college curriculum.

Here is a Pledge/Reward Scheme (needs to be refined). Please give feedback.

Project Rewards

$10- Feel happy about donating to a wonderful project. Probable Boomswitch!

$25- Free DVD once released, feel happy about donating to a wonderful project, and a probable Boomswitch!

$50- Free Limited Edition Signed DVD from the creators, with bonus material, feel happy about donating to a wonderful project, and a probable Boomswitch!

$100- Free Screening tickets for 2 plus DVD before the release, feel happy about donating to a wonderful project, and a probable Boomswitch!

$350- Free tickets for 4 for the screening and release party , a Free DVD, feel happy about donating to a wonderful project, and a probable Boomswitch!

$500 - Access to film production forum where you will be in contact with us regarding regular updates and ideas. I everyone with any valubale knowledge and ideas to at least pledge this amount. Your input is valuable. Plus all the stuff from above.

$1000 - Honorable Mention in the credits plus all the above.

$5000 or more - Guaranteed Boomswitch!

We're looking to raise 25-50k (haven't decided on the actual pledge total yet.) This is because we are seeking a global perspective. Flying around can be costly, but we plan to do all of it on a budget.

Lastly, I want to get this started by the WSOP. All the biggest names will be there, giving me lots of good footage. It should be noted that I plan on releasing this on smaller networks at first (HDNet, PBS, etc.) until hopefully it gains exposure. If one person is exposed to this video, that's one more person who can learn about the cause.

When you post, I want you to answer at least two questions. What can you pledge? Would you rather prefer this to be a narrative documentary or a video essay. For a documentary, think "God Grew Tired of Us." For video essay, think of "Fahrenheit 9/11."

Thanks,

Key

Soliciting donations definitely a no-no, the thread even without asking for cash is probably a no-no. plo ufo was given some leeway in creating a thread about his documentary in MTTc because he's been a contributor here for a while. Sorry.
