No freaking clue how to approach this spot.

GGPoker, Hold'em No Limit - 100/200 (25 ante) - 8 players
Hand delivered by Pokeit

UTG: 10,400 (52 bb)
UTG+1: 23,151 (116 bb)
MP: 18,236 (91 bb)
MP+1: 7,435 (37 bb)
CO: 9,525 (48 bb)
BU (Hero): 19,790 (99 bb)
SB: 11,463 (57 bb)
BB: 23,181 (116 bb)

Pre-Flop: (500) Hero is BTN with 4 4
1 fold, UTG+1 raises to 440, 3 players fold, Hero calls 440, SB calls 340, BB calls 240

Flop: (1,960) 5 6 6 (4 players)
SB checks, BB checks, UTG+1 bets 800, Hero ???

Seems like an easy fold. UTG1 is betting 40% pot into 3 players who can all have a 6 (well the sb shouldn't have many). You have a counterfeitable under pair to the board and 2 people behind you left to act. Why get involved here?

I wouldn't say it's an easy fold. I tried to find a similar 3way spot but either OR was supposed to X range, or the sims I had were slightly different stacks or positions. From what I saw, this would be a clear call vs b25 and a close fold vs b75. I suspect folding a pair and 3 to a straight vs b40 is a bit of an overfold but this being 4way, and the big blind (who has nut advantage) left to act, I think it's marginal enough that folding is perfectly fine. I would mostly base my decision on who's in the big blind. If they're suffieciently aggressive, I'd fold, and if they're on the passive side I'd lean towards call.

I mean, even 4-way is going to be exponentially more complicated than 3-way, for starters. And the more people in the hand, the more you're in theory supposed to play straightforwardly. Which means it's more likely the UTG+1 player has a real hand here.

The flipside of that is, if he doesn't and he's just betting with overcards, then he's making a really low-percentage bet that none of the other players have anything either. If you're calling here, you're not only betting on him making that bet a significant percentage of the time, you're also betting on him being right that the blinds don't have anything.

I did fold but it felt really weak at the time. I think it's one of those spots where the flop looks better for me than it actually is, and I could get myself into a lot of trouble continuing.
