3rd blind level of a deep, long blind level multi-day event. Hero has never played at this venue but it seems everyone else at the table is a regular here.

Hero has whittled down his stack with a few opens that didn’t pan out and running a river bluff that got called. Sitting at about 30k chips and rest of players are 50k+

Main villain is BB who’s had 4-5 drinks already, very jovial and active but seems to know everyone in the room.

Blinds: 200/300/300BBA

Hero opens UTG with QQ to 1k, MP1 calls, HJ Calls, BTN Calls, BB says “well, seems like I should be calling any 2 cards here huh?!” And calls.

Here’s where I’m not sure if I made a blunder or what. In my mind, I realized I didn’t have nut advantage but had huge range advantage. I didn’t really consider how much BB’s comment could have swayed my decision here until after.

Hero raised to 10k basically happy to take it down as it stood. MP1 folded and BB jammed for essentially another 15k on top. I begrudgingly called and BB showed 23o for the flopped trips. Runout was clean for V and we bust without a chance to reenter.

In retrospect, I think I should have just check-called leaving myself plenty of room to maneuver. And if I was to consider BBs speech play, maybe could have found an exploitative fold on later streets facing aggression.

What are your thoughts? Just a cooler or with all information considered, did I botch this one?

Everybody has done what you did here but alarm bells should have been going off when the bb calls the 2k flop bet after his speech.

If I am getting those odds in the bb closing the action, the only hands I fold are 72, 92, 83 and 94 off (sometimes j2-4 off if a ton of callers pre).

I would have led flop as well and bb's overcall would be even more alarming.

Not sure why you wouldn't lead flop here. This is about the safest board that doesn't contain a Q and you know they can't have AA or KK, so really all you have to worry about is 44 and a hand containing a 2. Your failure to bet led to a bizarre situation that ended up costing you more money.

Multiway pots can be odd but it's worth studying up and figuring out what to do so that you don't flush away your equity in that type of game.

Yeah, this is a great spot to bet because you certainly have the best overpair once there's no 3-bet preflop, and you're getting called by all the others, A4s, maybe some wheel gutshots especially if they have a backdoor flush draw. Depending on what kind of action you get after that, you may want to proceed with caution-- but your best chance for getting value for your hand is to bet the flop.

I would bet the flop and see what happens. If BB calls and doesn't raise I would either bet/fold turn or check it back and see what happens on the river. Given what BB said before calling pre-flop any hand includes 72o so all 2x hands are possible.

As played I would just call the flop bet given BB called. We will get to see what happens on turn. By checking flop we under represent our hand so MP2 may bet turn as well if we just call.
