About 165 runners. 4 left. Blinds 20k/40k BBA

Chip counts:

Hero (sb) 570k
BB 650k
EP 3M
BTN 700k

Payouts (approx):
12.5k
7.5k
4.5k
3.5k

EP folds and button opens 100k.

Hero with KJdd in sb.

Button is older guy maybe 60. He’s on the tight passive side but not an OMC. He’s been opening hands at the FT (always at least 2.5x) and has taken a few shove spots. He has folded to a shove after opening.

I think this a shove with some fold equity and decent equity when called (although will be dominated by a portion of calling range). The three of us are so short I don’t think waiting around is a good strategy. Thoughts?

I am not looking to fade all three players from ep with kj sooted but because you are in the bb when the CL has the button and can raise any two, I would be more likely to never plan on folding a hand if I put voluntarily enter the pot.

Also, pretty big icm jump from 4th to 2nd.

Current icm value is about 5.7k

You may have misread. I’m in the SB and the CL has folded.

Completely misread, thought your list was in order by position. It's certainly playable without behind you.

I would reverse my thinking about position and play a little conservative. You have the best seat of the remaining short players because you are the only player that never shares blinds with the CL, has him as a button and he is first to act when you are the bb. If CL is grinding them down, I would let him do your dirty work.

I would shove here.

We are short stacked and we have seen BTN fold after opening before. Unless we have been 3-betting wide already and have shown hands KJs or weaker. BB will fold hands like AT/A9s and BTN may very well fold pair < 88. We block AK/KQ/AJ and if BTN has AQ so be it. We would still be 40% or so.

Id find it pretty hard not to shove here, but obviously it will depend on the opener. If we want to be winning tournaments though we need to be picking up chips in spots like this. Id likely be jamming QJs+,K9s,bunch of Axs,pocket pairs then depending on how wide i feel like the guy is opening we can start to abuse him by ripping JTs+ and some non suited aces A7/8o+

I disagree with the above. With this chip distribution, I want to outlast the other two short stacks and finish 2nd. Busting is a possibility every time I put my shortest stack in the center, so I don't want to do it unless nearly nutted or have fold equity - which you rarely have either as short stack pre flop. Let the big stack bully and grind the other two players down to nominal stacks as you have the best seat to watch him do it - just out of reach.

Or look to cut a deal as we are discussing in another thread.

In fairness to the above folding KJs here allows the BB to choose between playing and folding and if they choose to play we may end up not the shortest stack at the end of the hand. Though if it checks down we still could be.

I don't believe BTN is only raising hands he will call a shove with here. BTN has position and more than 15 blinds. It is a blind stealing spot against the 2 shortest stacks. I would actually expect BTN to fold KQ and Ax where x < T. I doubt BTN would call with AT either. We block AK and AJ a bit too.

As far as the money goes I prefer not to wait in order to move up. Waiting is likely to end us in 3rd if BTN keeps taking advantage of spots like these.

Shove is fine here if you think he's opening wide enough to have a significant number of folds. You have loads of fold equity against one of the other short stacks.

As much as you want to outlast the other two, you are the shortest stack and you're going to have to win pots to do that. So, again, purely up to whether you think it will work often enough to be profitable.

I would shove here also KJdd plays really well and I feel we find some solid # of folds if guy isn’t an omc- it’s nice he opened to 100k also and not 80k which to me should be the standard sizing based on stack sizes.

I would rip happily and wear the variance. Just too good of a spot to pick up 4.5bb uncontested.
