So I agree with OP's reasoning for not 3 betting. Your stack is awkward enough that you are going to be in a bit of a pickle when you 3 bet and face a shove. If I 3 bet in this spot, it's with the intention to call a shove unless I can be super confident that the player 4 betting me is only doing it with QQ+ (and unless you have played with these players a lot, you can't be sure).

I think the way you played the hand though, you are in a prime spot to pick off that massive 3 bet shove. You are at the top of your flatting range. You are never flatting JJ or QQ there. The SB isn't ripping 50BBs effective with AA-KK, and I think QQ is very unlikely (You said he was a good player), JJ not likely, but not out of the question. If the player is a good player, they would be making it something like 14K - 17K and giving other players a chance to make a move with the hand they have (If it were a really premium hand). I would expect to see you up against AK/AQ, 99/88 a lot (maybe the guy is just making a move with AJ or KQ). I think with all the dead money in the middle that this is a call.

I think the call-off SB shove is less interesting than the flat vs. 3-bet small vs. 3-bet jam decision. It really becomes more of a math problem at that point.

Ultimately, if we think our opponent doesn't have KK+ or even AK in full there, it's probably a call even with a little bit of a risk premium. If our opponent doesn't ever 3-bet small there and instead jams all of their strongest hands, including KK+, then TT becomes a fold.

I think the former is more likely, which is why I would lean call now, but in game I wasn't sure what he'd do with QQ or AK and that shifted me towards thinking I was in a pretty close spot, Ended up folding and he told me had JJ.
