Where are the tournaments? Where are the tournaments?

I have been one of UP's biggest supporters, but I am now furious.

I can understand lowering the guarantees in the tourneys, but to eliminate them is a HUGE mistake. You're paying your RB in tourney dollars and cancelling all of the tourneys. Also, what about those of us who have tickets for the $50 and $100 buy ins? Are they worthless now?

I'm shocked that you would come to this board and brag about your rakeback without giving the full story. Where are we supposed to use the $U we earn? On freaking slot machines?

+1. Not sure how you could eliminate the nightly 5k?

They should have made it a 3k. Everyone would have understood. What are we supposed to do with our tickets?

Are they gone or is this a glitch from the implimentation of the new promo etc? The 1K is still called "2nd chance" which would imply a first chance. I have a bunch of tickets I'd like to know how I'm supposed to use if the tournaments are scrapped...

Edit: To say nothing of the Sat still scheduled to run at 6:30 or is the 20K unaffected? I suspect you lose a lot of runners for it if you scrap the 5.

I did a chat with a rep. They are gone... or as he said, they are redoing their tournament schedule.

TChan, thanks for responding to the other thread but ignoring this one.

We all knew the overlays couldn't last forever, but this isn't the way to change them.

What a joke. Why not $10k? They always get over 100 entries.

R.I.P Ultimate. You tried, you really did. Your customer service was great, (until you ignored this thread) but doing the rakeback as tournament dollars and ending all your decent tournaments will be the final nail in your coffin unless you change something quickly.

Wow I just snap sat out of the cash games. U$ are pretty much useless now. No reason to grind to get back 100% monopoly money.

I was truly happy to start grinding hard at the cash tables over the next month and a half, but wtf. No warning about such a drastic change.

This site has been a disappointment from the start for me they had no cash traffic but amazing value in tournaments. There customer service was prob the best in nj and now they get rid of the biggest thing they have going for them. This don't past the smell test !

It's ashame I really loved the tourns on their site. RIP ultimate. It's been a fun ride, thank you

They obviously can't sustain paying out 25-30K / week in overlays with the cash / sng traffic they get. Let's see where the tournies equalize. I mean I miss free money too, but this is no surprise.

In all fairness, they couldn't just give money away forever. They had to change the guarantees to stay in business, but the way they changed it was wrong.

But like we were thinking, perhaps some degen Poker players would spend money on the casino side after they bust tourns. Now that nobody will have the client open, that will not happen. They may lose casino revenue from poker players who were also degenerates. Maybe their out of pocket money in overlays, was recovered by the money poker players lost on casino games. Wishful thinking, but hopefully their casino side revenues decline, the overlays return!!!!

I just realized something else that UP should have done differently.

The first payout in $U happens on July 2nd, which "should" increase the tournament traffic. Why not wait until July 3rd to change the guarantees? That way, they likely would have had a ton of people playing the tournaments anyway because they have to spend their $U.

By doing this change now they are chasing people away from the cash promotion because their tournaments are basically non-existent so their $U have little value. They are killing both their cash and tourney play in one fell swoop. It amazes me how companies don't think these things through.

Also, please change the ads you guys have on this site about the best value tournaments in NJ. False advertising is against the law.

I agree they couldn't continue with such big overlays. But does that mean they have to drastically drop guarantees? Couldn't it be more gradual? Every night $50 would get you into the $5k gtd. Now its a $1k. I really think a $2.5k would be a fair balance.

Also, I would like to point out that they ran satellites on Sunday night for tournaments that they knew wouldn't exist on Monday. That's really shady.

Look on the bright side - at least the flawed 20K structure doesn't matter anymore.

Does this mean Brilliant27 will no longer hold court on the Ultimate tables?

You must have a cache of Tournament Tickets to use.

It is drastic. Would like to know what the thought process was to take the two "major tournaments" down so markedly?

Ultimate must think that their average for the tournaments will be halved to less than 30 in the now daily $1K, and one third to 30 for the Sunday $2,500.

They may be right. There are still errors on the Tournament Schedule and they haven't made any official announcement.

Always the optimist, still waiting for another shoe to drop with a bone for the Tournament Players.

Yes, I will use up my 6 remaining tickets in the Sunday tourns, and move some more of my play to party poker and bovada. No synch breaks, all regs, and no overlays = GG for Brillo. It's ashame cause I loved it there. All good things must end.
06-17-2014 , 09:47 PM
Wow what a bummer, had 5 $100 tix that I was too busy to use... now it seems like they are barely worth as much as I paid to play the sattys to win them.

I really think at the very least UP should adjust the # of tickets so that they have the same value as when we won them (in other words convert each $20000 ticket to eight $2500 tickets). Seems only fair as I would not have played a $10 rebuy (usually cost me $30 total with the addon) to win a ticket to a $2500 guarantee.
06-19-2014 , 03:46 PM
This is a bit upsetting.

Could you possibly make the fifty/five thousand guarantee, a twenty five/three thousand instead and maybe make the one hundred/twenty thousand, a one hundred/ ten thousand or something. I think just getting rid of them is a bit drastic. Its going to kill the tournament traffic not having good guarantees on the nightly and weekly tourneys.

It would be a better idea to cut the guarantees just a tab bit and see if they fill then, that is what stars is doing now and its a better model then just getting rid of everything altogether.
06-19-2014 , 04:12 PM
Yeah I have no issue with them lowering the guarantees (they gave away more than enough free money) but I think lowering them so drastically is going to kill what little tournament traffic they have. There are a bunch of big Sunday tournaments on other sites, a $2500 is just not going to get anyone lining up to play, especially at $100 buyin.

Same goes for the nightly $1k, last night had 23 runners so it just met the guarantee, but prob mainly people using up their (formerly $5k) satty tickets. I don't see a lot of people paying $50 to play for a $470 first prize.

This seriously blows. I feel like I got scammed with all these worthless $100 tournament tickets.

$2,500 Sunday? Wtf is that? At least make it a $10K.

We've all been saying that, along with a $2500 nightly $50 buy in and making the $20 buy in $500. I messaged one of their reps (who have always been nice in their replies to me) and told them that the drastic cuts were equivalent to amputating your hand because you broke your thumb.

The response basically said that they feel they have dumped enough money into tournament players without seeing any growth so now they are going after cash players. They fail to realize that the cash promotion won't work without decent tourneys to use the $U in. I'm hoping they realize the error of their ways soon.

Edit: Also the Sunday tourney is not listed in the lobby.
