So it's a hotspot issue 100%. Anyone using a hotspot could have problems.

Yeah, your hotspot generates a generic IP address, the country code is mandatory, so you show up as smack dab in the middle of the country.
05-04-2013 , 04:49 PM
So I will never be able to use hotspot to play?

Well, the IP address is not supposed to be an issue...But nobody has shown me anything yet that disproves my theory that it is a huge issue.

Probably by law your IP and your cell phone must show Nevada or you don't get location verified.

Where have you seen them running? I haven't seen a single one of their satellite tourneys or daily freerolls that are on every advertisement of UP.

Maybe my software install didn't go as well as I had hoped?

Please advise.

Thx.

Why doesn't UP offer play money games?

ZPM, thanks so much for this. I forwarded your post to our developers; I hope they can use some of that data. Either way, you rock.

Love the little explosion icon in the chat bar with cursing occurs... of course I would prefer to see the actual curse words. Seeing as we're all adults here.

Highly doubt it. In the future possibly, like if there's a tournament with over 1,000 players. I think Stars had a rule similar to that.

It's pretty well known they are looking at your IP address. They don't use IP address as their ONLY tool, but they are looking at it.

We're very interested in getting to the bottom of issues like these. If you don't mind, would you be willing to work with me a bit? I'm interested in learning the exact IP addresses and phone numbers you have been testing, along with approximate date/times of your tests. This will help find the internal logs and those of the various data sources we're using.

I'm sure everyone is aware that the confidence that a player is located in Nevada needs to be very high for us to allow wagers. We know that we've got things set very conservatively at the moment. If our location analysis has any contradictory information, we err on the side of disallowing play. While frustrating, this is intentional. Our aim is to work with customers in real-world situations to tune our parameters for better accuracy without decreasing our location confidence.

Everyone in Vegas with Verizon needs to booty on down to a local Verizon store and insist to speak only with the store manager. These are the only people who have security clearance high enough to even know who to talk to at the higher levels.

Lol. I am physically in Henderson. Think sunset and Whitney ranch. The ip location site has me near south strip just north of the airport. That is miles off.

don't be fooled by T-Mob's claims to the contrary.

I was.

once.

(I'm 100% Verizon also and seriously ticked off about this oversight)

Aliante is no longer a Station property, unfortunately.

Red Rock is amazing. It's one of the most beautiful properties in Vegas.

Dax, what exactly does "should have any trouble" mean? Does it mean if you live within 1.5 km, UP can try to help you with a solution? Or does it mean you are totally SOL because the regulators won't allow it at all?

I contacted UP customer service 3 times already (ticket #3241 and aside from the first generic response 3 days ago "thank you for contacting us, please be patient while we investigate the matter" I have not received a reply.

I live in Laughlin about .8 km from Arizona. I have AT&T. It verified my location fine when I was in Summerlin 2 nights ago. It cannot verify my location when I am at home in Laughlin. Moving my residence from .8 km to 1.6 km is not a viable option for me. Am I screwed or is there a work around? Waiting 2+ years for this day and now I am not in Nevada far enough to satisfy the regulators?

Update: Charon from customer service just replied but didn't understand my question - just gave me the generic answer about texting YES and using one of the four carriers, not anything about the issues with the border.
Hey - Nevada's only approved us up to a 1.5 km "buffer" around the border. I am hoping that we'd be able to change that but I can't promise it so unfortunately, no for the time being. I will push that up the chain, too.

Ask for Cindy at the spa at RR when you all get your mani/pedi's. She's a friend of my wife.

I had already tried multiple phones, two computers, multiple installs, two different accounts (mine and my wife) and many locations in almost every possible combination with no luck. My Dad came by my house today and I decided to make one more attempt, so he would understand why I have been ranting like a lunatic.

My house, my computer, his phone, his account: Failure

I sent him home but I showed him how to install the software in case it ever works. He called me 30 minutes later and asked me what it meant when it says ACCOUNT ACTIVE!!! It worked perfectly from his house 5 miles away.

His house, his computer, his phone, his account: Success

WTF! My house must be in the bermuda triangle of cell signals! On a whim I asked him to log out and try my account from his house.

His house, his computer, my phone(still at my house), my account: Success

I could not believe it. Maybe both my computers have an issue? I jumped in the car with the laptop and went to his house.

His house, my computer, my phone, my account: Success

So, my phone can be located at either house. The computer does not matter, the account does not matter.

I came home and tried again.

My house, my computer, my phone, my account: Failure

THE ONLY THING THAT CHANGED WAS THE IP ADDRESS! We have the same internet provider(CenturyLink) and only live about 5 miles apart but get routed completely differently. My IP address at home shows up as roughly Lake Mead and Boulder Highway. Over ten miles from my house. From my Dad's house the IP address is roughly Washington and Eastern and is less than five miles from either house.

I am at home now. He can log onto my account from his house even though my phone is 5 miles away. I cannot log on even though my phone is sitting right next to me.
I'm going to update the FAQ at the top, but we've gotten our vendor to increase the LBS timeout so you should have better success from both locations. Your IP address changing won't make a difference here. You can also try logging in a couple times - we've seen some people have really wide variance in how long the LBS takes, so if you get a "fast lookup" you can log right in.

My IP is also located in nevada, according to "http://www.whereisip.net/" and Locaid says my phone is there. But I am still unverified. Please don't tell my wife, she thinks I am here too.
No one knows about my evil twin, either. Actually, I'm the evil twin. He's the schlub that goes to work.

We've definitely been struggling with a few percent of our customers. With our recent increase to the timeout lookup, it should be even fewer. Keep trying, and bear with us.
