You do realize they are advertising to the general public right? First impression and all that... I wrote that to be helpful not as criticism btw.

Furthermore, UP support seems pretty clueless as to how to troubleshoot location verification related problems. So UP better get a good FAQ/troubleshooting guide up on their website pronto or explain to their CS reps how to troubleshoot these issues. Those customers that try and give up may not return. And try telling one of them that they need to go out and buy a burner lol. So obviously the ideal would be to find a technical solution to facilitate verification but barring that, the suggestions above stand.
Part of the reason we (I?) rely on 2+2 so much is because by and large you guys are the best and the brightest.

Tonight I talked to about 5 different people to try different things (including looking directly into the logs, testing various things with people, and so on).

I'm going to add something to the FAQ that may help those who are getting NO text messages at all - we think it might possibly be related to the short code (UPOKER) that we send from. Try sending a text message that says "YES" to 702-749-4998 (our long code) - you might at least be able to enable verification this way.

If we hear people are getting this to work this way, we're can ditch the short code (at least until we figure out why certain carriers are blocking it) and you should be off to the races.

Again, I want to THANK EVERYONE who's helped out in whatever small way. Testing, purchasing burner phones, helping me respond with commonly asked questions, and even the kind words of thanks make our very long days go by a little smoother right now. Every positive message that you guys have PM'd me (or posted directly in the thread) gets straight copy and pasted to our support staff (who are quickly starting to look like Ren from Ren and Stimpy).

Just spent about a half hour on the phone with Dax and some of the IT guys. My verification is failing because it is timing out. They are going to talk to their vendors and try to figure out how much they can extend the time allowed without choking the system.

I really appreciate them taking the time to try and sort this out.

Have you guys investigated the AT&T using Verizon towers theory that's been going around?

After having zero luck at my office logging in, I had no problems at my house 10 miles away.

It's really hard to tell which actual towers are having troubles. I was tempted to start whipping together a public google map that people could pin a red or a green pin on, but as cool as it would have been that was a probably a waste of time.

We're thinking that we're not allowing some of the location requests enough time to resolve. There's a lot of complexity behind the location request, but the result seems to be the same for people no matter what phone they're using from one location. I'm wondering if some towers just take longer..

Anyone near Sahara and Nellis getting on the site OK?

Dax - first I just want to say that I have been super impressed by your constant and forthright presence in this thread. While I doubt I will be able to play on your site anytime soon, I am pulling for you guys.

The dependency on using cell tower triangulation is obviously going to frustrate a lot of people. Maybe to help reduce those frustrations you could have a Cell Phone Compatibility Checker tool on the web page or in the client, that new users could use to verify that their phone can receive the text messages and will give back the location information correctly. Ideally users would check this first before creating an account or (grimace) depositing funds, only to found out at a later point that their phone is causing an issue.

Obviously this would not be something that could be done immediately, but you might want to consider it for a later point.

Any good name suggestions for the Sunday 10k? I wanted to have the "Weekend Hoser" but I got shot down. I'm no marketing expert, that's for sure.
Was I the only one who saw this and thought, "Decent squeeze play by seat 3, eh." "Yeah, beauty." ?

(<--- also not in marketing.)

Nope, never!

Also, definitely don't read the first page sticky or use the search function...

But in other news, yes. Many people get a cheap model from Target or WalMart for $15 or $20 with a $15 or $20 pre-payment. Make sure to avoid Verizon and any of the small carriers.

I'm a Verizon customer so for the time being I used a friends cell to register and It's been letting me play. Can I get banned for this? I do reside and currently am in Las Vegas.

It shouldn't be a problem. The checking of your location is both through your ISP as well as through the phone they are using to also verify your location. From everything I've read on this thread that shouldn't be a problem for you. If your friend decides they want to play, you might need to get another non-Verizon phone. As long as you aren't faking your being in NV, I wouldn't worry about it.

Any idea what software would cause this?

So I have spent all night on my old craptop since there is no Mac client. Lovely.

Still no joy installing the software. What a pita.

Latest error is that I need to install a Windows service pack that contains a newer version of the Windows Installer service. Wut?

I'm running XP SP3. All critical and non-critical updates have been done and the computer was rebooted.

No, I'm not going to upgrade the Windows software to Windows 7 or 8 unless Station Casinos wants to pay for it.

Lol at online in NV. The only people that know about this are hard core poker players. The action is going to suck. Gl to this site.

Those hard-core players, and all the regular patrons of Station Casinos, and all the people driving past Station Casinos, and all the people that read newspapers and are generally interested in gaming.

I was able to make a $300 deposit as well and my phone isn't verified yet since I am on Verizon.

I owe you a drink next time you are in Vegas and I have cash.

Thanks!

I knew I should have come to this thread earlier.

The games I have played have been super soft.

I registered earlier today (about 3-4hrs ago). Everything's verified, except "Age and ID" and I haven't received any further instructions regarding that. Are you guys verifying everyone one-by-one (which would explain the delay) or is it automatic? If it's the later, shouldn't I have received instructions on how to proceed if there's an issue?

It was only on the front page of the Las Vegas Review Journal. It's not like *that* many people saw it. Plus, there's only eleventy-seven Station Casinos in town pimping this.

It's a spark. Now just add more fuel and a gentle breeze. This whole internet poker thing might just catch on some day.
