Does UP AUTO-Withhold 30% of tourney winnings of $5k or more for taxes ? I read that WSOP.com is doing this ? Seems like a dreadful policy, that contradicts how live tourney winnings are handled, where the PLAYER has the option to be paid in full and handle taxes on their own, or withhold taxes upfront.

How does Ultimate Poker handle this.

We had a pretty in depth conversation re: this in the WSOP forums and then the OP, I believe, said they didnt withhold after all? Im not sure what the status of things is over there, fwiw.

https://playercare.ultimatepoker.com...ed-to-the-IRS-

If you are an American and win $5,000 or more in a single tournament:

Ultimate Poker will issue a W2G tax form to the player and to the IRS.

If you are a non-American and win $5,000 or more in a single tournament:

A 1042-S will be sent to the player. We will withhold 30% of winnings unless all of the below conditions are met:

- The player is resident of a tax treaty country
- The player has an IRS Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- Ultimate Poker has a signed W-8BEN on file for the player
For more details and how this affects you in particular, you should discuss this with an accountant or attorney.
