Thanks, that's not a bad idea - very simple and easy.

been using them for years and they work well. not a miracle cure for cool temps but helps a lot. green house is of course better but you have to be there to open it up and cool it down on hot days and have a watering system.

Dug up a few onions and fingerling potatoes from the garden.

I grow fingerlings because they not only are better tasting than say, russets, but most of my soil is sort of clayey and heavy and larger potatoes get too knobby under those conditions. Even a few of the fingerlings were knobby.

These potatoes and onions are great sautéed together with some olive oil and garlic and salt and pepper. Very yummy.

I'm growing three types of onions; whites, yellow, and purple. And two types of fingerling potatoes; whites and purples.

You should be investing in some raised beds.

That is sound advice. So I'll get to it about the year 2035.

You'd have it done in a week if you weren't so busy being retired

True.

Just harvested some more potatoes this morning. Reds and purples [pic below]. Plus more of the white fingerlings. The potatoes are just sitting around like I do. Retired from all that work growing in the ground.

Good Bye Orange County; it was fun and dazzling. Won't be there ever again. Pic taken at someone's home in San Clemente; that is Dana Point Harbor (under the bluff) in the distance in the right background.

Finally had a good rain that is welcome and needed. Finished harvesting most of the garden stuff. Still getting a few strawberries and cherry tomatoes. The carrots are great and we had some for dinner; steamed with butter and they had a great fresh and sweetish flavor. All my onions also have great flavors.

The huckleberries are ripe and I picked a bucket full and we had huckleberry pancakes for breakfast yesterday morning. Used real maple syrup. Wonderfully delicious. The best breakfast you can have. Lots more getting ripe so I will be able to pick a lot more; they are a deep purple color and tart and many bushes are loaded with berries. Takes patience to pick them as many are rather small but it is well worth the effort.

yea they are great lots of bushes at my place and the shop. the little ones on the coast grow in bunches so easy to pick but takes time. we make pancakes like you and also use them in jam.
there is a red variety that is great and taste a little different. have a few of those bushes.
they are all native so that is nice.

Only three deer chomping away at foliage in my backyard. See pic. Sometimes there are as many at 7 or 8. A large covey of quail, about 15-20, have also been hanging about. And the noisy Stellar Jays are squawking and causing a big ruckus in my backyard trees. Disturbers of the peace these birds are.

I had a great lunch at this fine establishment yesterday.

Full fontal pic.

This is the type of Cafe you would expect to bump into Ray Zee or Phat Mack. Big plus is the auction yard is right out back. So some days you could pick up a cow or two if need be.

auction yards do have good food as they have to for during the auctions to get people there. and some of them keep the cafe open or build it up for the rest of the time.

no tofu for the vegi crowd though.

So I went on a vacation to get out of all the work of retirement. I had some great beer. I may make it home soon.

If the land doesn't move the location will be the same. And my memory has not totally collapsed so I'll make it home.

Took a no-limit player for his whole stack in Reno. My full house was bigger than his. My wallet was bulging with 100 $ bills.

The game moved from the El Dorado to the Sliver Legacy, about a year ago I was informed

Also ate at a great Basque restaurant in Reno. Everything was excellent and the ox tails were fantastic. Sweet and delicious.

To clarify something above, I should have said the El Dorado card room is no more, the space is now a Starbucks. The Sliver Legacy now has a card room that didn't exist before. Sort of sad to see that old card room go, it had been around for a long time.
