The ranching family that I live next to has a large herd of cattle; they have been a ranching family for well over a hundred years in the valley. The calfs are growing fast that were born in mid-February. They have to go out daily and provide fresh hay for feed and bedding. They are fun to watch grow and frolic about.
At least it’s not a dairy farm. We have bunch of those back home and they smell like…
I grew up surrounded by dairy farms in New Jersey of all places. But in the 50s, most of the cows were pastured and you didn't get the stink you get from a modern milk and cow factory.
Also, a lot of the streams that meandered through the pastures had some good trout in them. They didn't get fished much because a lot of the kids were afraid of the cows and the farmers.

i've shared this a lot on 2p2, it brings me to tears quite often, certaintly doesn't help that the actor looks much like my late grandfather who loved fishing
but it just makes me think of death and all the suboptimal and outright blunders of my life and oh what could have been and then it's over

An extra million or so people, with kids, up and down the coast; Spring Break. Every place is packed with people. The beautiful weather adds to the hordes.
When a 100 ton milk tank is removed after 50 years and the base is exposed you will realise what the expression “Crying over spilt milk” means. More “retching over split”milk really.
Not really, the Burbank Russets, butterball, reds, and the purple ones, same as last year. I’ll get some volunteers as usual, probably some fingerlings will come up, etc. All these do very well with the flaky, light Burbank Russets being my favorite.
My Swiss Chard lasted through the winter as usual and is just starting to really take off. It has been quite cool the last few days and the ground needs to warm up. I’ll probably have to wait until later in April or early May for most of my planting.

Felled a huge spruce tree this morning for a local and earned $200. Had to hike 1/4 mile down a canyon to get to the tree which was about six ft through on the stump. It made an impressive thump when it hit the ground. It will be left there to rot and restore Mother Earth.
