Re: Zeno: Swinging the World by the Tail

I got about half-a-gallon of strawberries from my garden yesterday. With this current heat wave, they are ripening fast.

Re: Zeno: Swinging the World by the Tail

I have a natural spring near the edge, but fully within, my property. I was thinking of putting in a cistern to capture and utilizes this natural Springwater. I already have a small one-inch diameter PVC pipe in the ground that has continuous flow even now at the height of summer and no significant rainfall for over 3 weeks. So I am doing research on how to install a cistern.

In addition, I was pondering doing a commercial/business venture with the captured spring water. For example, bottling the water and selling it as: Zeno's Pure Natural Spring Water from the Coastal Rainforest of Oregon. Pure taste and naturally healthy and healing waters. Nothing added. Blessed by Buddha. Endorsed by Taoists Priests.

Use for drinking, watering house plants, bathing a baby, or other everyday uses to enjoy and enhance your health, natural lifestyle. Only ten dollars a gallon. Or 25 gallons for $30, plus shipping. Order today.

Re: Zeno: Swinging the World by the Tail

be careful sometimes when you dig into a spring you end up diverting the water underground or in a different direction. better to put your cistern, a small one where that cant happen.

i have a couple spring fed ponds id like to make deeper in a part but afraid the water will go down if i dig. if it does you cant fix it.

maybe lead the pipe into a tub and make a tiny pond. or dam up the surface water in a spot to make a little one.

Re: Zeno: Swinging the World by the Tail

Thanks, something to consider. I will do a few small tests to help determine flow etc.

Weeded everything in the garden today, mostly by hand but some by hoe. What a pain but it needed doing. It also revealed just how damn old I'm getting. That stooping and creepy crawly movement makes me quite sore. And I am smart enough to stop and rest and take breaks but it still makes for a workout.

The insanity of a July 4 weekend is already showing up on the coast. That plus most of the COVID restrictions are gone or lessened. So now even more extra fools and tourists will crowd into the area. I'll hide out at home and if I go anywhere it will be on the back roads/logging roads up into the hills.

Smoke along the southern Oregon coast. Forest fires in southern Oregon on the umpqua and one very large one called the Bootleg Fire. Plus a few others. Not unusual for us to get this from fires in southern Oregon or Northern California; happens every summer.

Re: Zeno: Swinging the World by the Tail

So I had a small crack and misty leak in my piping for the well pressure tank set up. It was a pain but with the help of my brother we got it all fixed anew and will turn on the pressure/well in a few hours and everything will be back to normal with a minimum amount of downtime. It's good we could fix the problem ourselves, if not; it would have cost an arm and a leg to call in a professional company.

It is very windy here but still thousands of human scum are flooding into the area. There are so many there is a constant line up at the one gas station in town. What a mess.

if you fixed a leak that takes a few hours to cure you will have future problems.

Re: Zeno: Swinging the World by the Tail

Stop being silly old friend; we replaced a whole 1 foot section with new pvc joints / pipe. You don’t replace an entire water system because of a single small leak in one pipe. And yeah other leaks will occur and parts will need replaced: that is a normal wear and tear process that is ongoing with any home water system. Since I have my own well I will eventually have to get a new well pump. The one down hole is over 20 years old and I have hard water, which is why I also have a filter system that requires yearly maintenance. This stuff never ends.

Re: Zeno: Swinging the World by the Tail

its only 60 pounds pressure. the pvc joint only needs 15 minutes or so to cure.
i guess it doesnt hurt to wait a couple hours.

hard water need a water softener. that also keeps your pipes from getting clogged with calcium and magnesium.

the pump can last as long as you, it sits in the water so hard water doesnt affect it.

pressure tanks, most have a rubber bladder and that gets icky after a few decades.

Can't you just stand outside and absorb water through your skin due to the humidity?

Yeah, Osmosis is a natural process. Surprised governments haven’t started to tax it yet!

Perhaps I should move to Winnemucca, Nevada for part of the year. I could rent out my Oregon place as a vacation home most of the year.

Actually near Lake Tahoe area would be better; Incline Village - even Carson City or the Yerington area.

Yellow Jacket nest in my wood pile, next to the shop building. These buggers are mean and annoying. I got zapped in both forearms. We have destroyed the nest and killed most of the bees. Will soak the area with wasp and hornet killer spray as the main nest was right against the foundation of the shop. Can’t leave a single one of these hornets alive. All Must Die!

Re: Zeno: Swinging the World by the Tail

No smoke in my area. Clear, cool, windy and lots of traffic. Be prepared for even more traffic if on the north coast.

We got rid of all the bees and yeah when they settle down for the night is the time to spray and kill, etc This was a pesky task that we just completed this morning. Only a few smaller yellow jackets hanging about and got them killed also. Plus I sprayed insecticide around the wood piles. I'll want a day or two and restack the part of the wood piles that I had to pull down.

Re: Zeno: Swinging the World by the Tail

wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets are not bees and should perish
bees are bees and should be preserved at all cost
