Oh man, huckleberries are the best. I picked a bunch of them at my sister's in Idaho a few years ago. Huckleberry shakes just can't be beat.

the mountain states have large juicy tart huckleberries. they are the best. they sell for like 40 bucks for a ziplock bag of them.
the north west coast has a coastal huck that is small like about a double sized bb. they are delicious as well but you have to pick a lot of them to get much. the good part unlike the mountain huck they come in big clusters so you can pick many with each grab.
i find i can fill a bag of each about in the same amount of time. while eating again half as much as i go along.
the montana hucks seem to be the best and in most demand from the commercial buyers. idaho ones are great as well.

I think I've bragged about the coastal huckleberries before. I have large patches of them near me in parks and on trails and pick some every year. Huckleberry pancakes are simply the best thing for breakfast ever. With real Maple Syrup.

i've always thought once you add hucks you should call them flap jacks, not pancakes.

i always have a large supply of hucks and blackberries in the freezer. pancakes, muffins, cereal, shakes all get them. in august you can tell by all the scratches on my arms from the blackberry bushes.

we typically have frozen blues or blacks and pour them in a tall glass, cover with milk, and use a wand mixer/emersion blender to turn them into shakes. two ingredient deliciousness.

Planting season will soon be here; though we have had an unusually cool winter and spring so far. Soil needs to warm up some before some of seeds can go in the ground.

50 to 60 degrees soil temp for cool season crops.
60 to 70 for regular stuff that grows in oregon. some stuff just doesnt grow well as you know and isnt worth messing with.
if you want to start early put clear plastic tarp over the seeds after planting. that will help a few weeks early and warm the soil ten or 15 degrees.
buy some tomato walls. and fill with water. that will start your tomatoes and make them grow well all season long if you leave the walls on. plant started tomatoes deeper.

The amount of people on the Southern Oregon coast this week and weekend is beyond belief. Spring break and all that. Millions of out of state scum pack the roads, turn outs, trail heads, beaches etc. Surfers even litter the mostly pathetic waves. Hordes of people on bicycles. Traffic is outrageous. I had to travel today for my first Vaccine jab, otherwise I would have stayed home. Go home you Scum and stop contaminating this place.
