No pics of dinner engagement - just some word-fu.

Me, a Russian Oligarch, and two Mossad Agents met for a confab and dinner at a great place in Las Vegas. I picked a French white wine for one of the Mossad Agents and a Spanish red wine (from the Rioja region) for the rest of the table. This restaurant is great because a “wine store” is up front and you can pick and purchase the wine for your dinner pre-dinner and not pay the usual outrageous fees charged at most upscale establishments. A tip – Spanish Red Wines are excellent and are on par with many French red wines at about 1/3 to 1/2 the cost.

We had escargot and lobster bisque soup for the warm up. Also warm, fresh-made sourdough bread was heaped on the table. I ordered pork from New Zealand which was parachuted down fresh to the table; The Russian ordered some fish from the Baltic Sea; with filet mignon and scallops rounding out the fare for the Mossad Agents. All dishes were accompanied by scintillating vegetables and/or exotic delicacies known to but a few. Everything was excellent (with generous portions) – and we each tried some of the others main course to placate our interest and vary the dining experience. We were all comfortably full at the end of this food orgy and passed on desert, even though the dessert menu was full of temptations.

The flow of reason and meeting of souls filled the air with wonderful conversation and a few beers (IPAs) where had by some. The fresh bread was used to sop up the greenish glop that the snails arrived in; this was a great treat that helped to round out the feast. We all agreed to meet again soon, probably somewhere in the Ukraine, on the Russian’s home turf. We still have much to discuss, elections to rig, and war plans to solidify. The Russian Oligarch, of course, paid for everything.

Ciao for now.......

I have very strict requirements as to what kind of wine I'll drink.

First of all, it must be from a cube. In the 21st century there is absolutely no reason to serve wine from a bottle that is plugged with something as idiotic as a cork. Cubes provide the perfect anaerobic environment, let's accept that fact and not act like the cork-pulling rabble.

If no cubed wine is available, I will accept wine from a bottle as long as it has a screw-on cap.

Color? Easy. Red wine in cold weather, white wine in warm weather. Rose wine is for people with ambivalent personalities who can't make decisions. If you drink enough of it, any wine will go with any food. Just use common sense -- strong tasting wines with strong tasting foods -- delicate wines with delicate flavors.

Cost? The cheapest stuff they have. Montaigne has taught us that if we make our enjoyment depend on drinking fine wines, we condemn ourselves to suffering when we only have the cheap stuff. Instead, drink to get drunk. Find the stuff that will loosen our tongues when we are with our friends or enemies and just pour it down the hatch. Better people than us lie cold in the ground -- we owe it to the dead to enjoy living. Drink up!

For a Frenchman, Montaigne is unusually wise. I have his complete essays. Ray does not. And it shows.

i couldnt care about what some frenchman from 500 years past has done. let alone a philosopher.
you should have burnt his books with all the others you sent up in flames. and spent more time getting your shop door fixed.

Red wine with red meat. Hardly rocket science.

I noticed that two of the food celebrates ordered duck. So, Brown wine with Brown meat. It's not rocket science.

On a side note, I just purchased a bottle of pinot grigio from Italy at the local supermarket. Screw top bottle of course, and at a very reasonable price. I hope Phat Mack approves.

I love how, at the liquor store today, but also just in general, the teller will stick the hundred dollar bill under the change draw. Of course no one knows about this secret hiding place. Aside from just, hello - make a slot for those Biggish bills in the till. It’s not the 1950’s when a twenty was a big bill.

So one of my favorite movies that I have on CD and view often blew a gasket and no long functions. So I did the appropriate thing and ended its "life". See below pics.

Close up:

Note that Clive got one in the eye, Paul got his legs blown off, and Monica is missing a breast. I'm a damn good shot with my .45 auto even from 25 feet.

I used to play in a house game in Houston in the 70s where the gamerunner called the number and ordered a dozen Pocket Fishermen. Then he took us out to Lake Rayburn and held a fishing tournament where we had use them and them only. It was the only fishing tournament I've ever participated in, and probably the most fun of any fishing tournament ever. It was a pure blast.
