Is it next to the sports book where the poker dealing machines were? I haven't been there for a few years, but I remember playing stts there.

It is tucked in a corner, not too far from the sports book/sports bar area. But with a bit of slot area between them. Can't really spy the poker room from the sports area.

Silver Legacy's a nice room IIRC. Friendly dealers and locals, coffee and sometimes cake/snacks on the side.

havent been to reno in decades since i sold my house there. eldorado was a dump then . is it the silver legacy now or is that a different casino.

whats the smoking situation. most cardrooms are non smoking but you are in smoke from the casino all the time is that true there. thats why i left gambling in reno.

El Dorado improved and the three separate casinos; The Silver Legacy, El Dorado, and Circus Circus are now owned by the same corporation I think, and all three are linked together by large walkways, with shops, breweries, restaurants etc., all along and going from one to the other is very easy and comfortable.

Reno has changed dramatically from decades ago. It is not at all like it was in the 1980's or even the late 1990's.

Carson City has also changed very much and work is continuing. It is becoming hipster and californized. There is even a yoga place downtown now. I remember visiting Carson City in the later 1990's and it was dirty and dumpy. That has all changed. Especially in the last decade. Cactus Jack's is still there and the Nugget but many of the other older style casinos are gone or been replaced. Now there are antique stores and art dealers etc. Very upscale. People like Ray Zee are now not welcome or have to hide out at Cactus Jacks or be run out of town.

Here in Colorado we call californized being californicated.

yep i dont fit in anymore in those places. no yoga for me. i use to think reno was my spot. but the smoking and the cold winters made me think twice.
now with all the californians moving there to beat the high state taxes and the southern oregon people wanting to be like them it isnt livable no more.

Purchased a Hamilton viewmatic wristwatch. Chose it over the Jazzmaster model that I also liked. So after all these years I finally have a dazzling watch to impress the ladies.

instead of wearing a watch put a bracelet of hundred dollar bills on your wrist. that will do more for your success.

Need rain badly. Some on the way but probably not enough. Need two weeks worth of stormy weather. Commercial and sport guys out on the ocean in droves for the Salmon. Nothing up the small rivers yet. Some fish up the Rogue as usual. Still need the lots of rain.

Attended the NBA Opener: Portland Blazers Vs. LA Lakers. It was a great game and close the whole way until about the last 2 minutes. The LeBron lead Lakers went down to ignominious defeat. Exactly what they deserved. Game also had a tribute to Paul Allen, owner of the Trailblazers, who just passed away. So it was extra sweet. In front of a packed house. Good Times in Portland.

Cut down the stupid pear tree that never produced any worthwhile fruit. The wood and branches will provide fuel for my book burning project.

Leaves from all my deciduous trees will be placed on the garden for mulch/fertilizer.

Nice weather on coast that makes hiking and beach walking very enjoyable. No real fishing, the small rivers near me are so low no boats can even drift them. And it is November. That is very rare indeed. Need about 2-3 weeks of steady rain to get the rivers up to a normal autumn/winter level.

I made some kickass applesauce using gravenstein apples from my tree - Three big batches. I just add a little salt, some allspice and some cinnamon and the taste comes out perfect. I boiled the cut up apples with the skins on so I get the full goodness of the entire apple, core removed of course. I have this cone shaped apparatus with small holes that I use to squeeze the reduced apples through. One hundred percent organic and pure applesauce, like great-grandma used to make.

Weather is beautiful on the coast and I have been hiking almost every day. In fact it has been unusually warm and sunny.

Pic below is of a lone Sea Lion I surprise on a remote part of the Pacific Beach, accessible by a two mile hike only. The beast lumbered away into the surf barking like a banshee.

On another hike on a remote beach, I encountered this deer shown below. Its beach combing days are over. I actually see quite a few deer, or their tracks, near and on the beach often. Not sure why this one expired, no obvious wounds or bullet holes.

Salmon fishing in the rivers is slow to almost non-existent though hordes are trying near the mouths. No rain and the fishing will not be good until we get at least of week of soaking rains. Small rivers near here are so low no one is even bothering to drift them. Ocean and near shore fishing is going on and a few commercial and sport guys are out flailing and trolling.

Basically no real salmon season on the local rivers. Rivers are so low most drift boats can't get down them - really at summer level. Hardly saw a guide boat. There was about one week of reasonable good fishing but I was in Seattle at the time. And of course because the salmon fishing has been so poor the rivers were clogged with boats and people. No fun anyway if you have to fight to get your fly in the river.

My trip to the Seattle area was fun and very enjoyable. It's still a nice area to visit even if the traffic is almost as bad as LA's. When going downtown we used public transportation and between light rail and the bus you can get about in a reasonable fashion and with no stress. My friends live in Bellevue and on Whidbey Island. Did much drinking and eating and the had the locally famous penn cove mussels at a restaurant in Coupeville. Excellent.

I'll be visiting Europe for two months and leave in less than a week. I'll stay with a friend in Sicily for about a month and then hopefully go to France, to visit a couple I know there, and other silly countries in Western Europe. I'll post here and perhaps in the Lounge about my little excursion to the bastion of Western Civilization, such as it is.

Beautiful day yesterday on the coast. Large surf and no wind and sunshine made for a wonderful hike on the beach. Weather turning nasty today and the rain is on its way. Back to typical winter rain and wind and storm.

Trip update- After about 3 weeks in Sicily, mostly in Catania, I fly to France tomorrow to stay with my friends there. Doing whatever can be done. Then it is back to Sicily to round out my stay. Will do excursions elsewhere as opportunities permit.

The Rome airport: a giant shopping mall that has a small airport attached to it like a secondary appendage.
