Every night before going to bed, have been setting stop-limits to sell on the off-chance that something causes an unexpected sell-off that's larger than what seems like might be expected from normal variance? And it looks like last night all 3 of them got triggered, and my coins all got sold.

The high for my paper profits yesterday was something like US$1,400 - and if there hadn't been any stop-limits, it looks like my profits still would have been around something like $500? Looks like my stop-limits left me with US$800 of profit, so that's still pretty nice for a one-day gain?

Guess to have been able to sell at the peak would have required watching the charts all night, and would have had to be able to tell for sure that the prices were at their peak - and wasn't able to do either So maybe holding and setting stop-limits is a nice system for now?

Wonder, did the price maybe go down because of the news from S. Korea - the decision to not regulate the crypto market, and the hack?

Was noticing that prices are already up from the lowest lows, and the crypto market cap is still up for the day ...

Is anybody else considering buying right now, while prices may be low? Decided to try buying a couple of small amounts - guess if things start to look even better in the next couple of days, can buy back more then?

So tilting how the exchange fees wind up rounding everything down, ugh! Anyways, wound up buying at around the following prices ...
  • ETH: $722
  • LTC: $347
  • XRP: $0.77

It seems like maybe a good sign that the futures markets are still trading higher - a couple of days ago, was frustrated with them for setting the future price so low ... but on a day like today, maybe nice that they're there to show everybody that they still see prices on the rise?

Am not leaving for the airport until around 4pm, but am not sure how much time will have to post over the holidays. Guess everybody's busy at this time of the year, catching up with friends and family as well - the holidays are such a lovely time of the year

Wow - so lucky it turns out the taxi doesn't actually arrive to my parents house until 4:30pm ... they just told my 4pm, to make sure would get here on time

Was watching the market, and it looks like all the stop-losses of my fresh new orders all got triggered as well.

It must suck for people who have bitcoin in limbo somewhere, like in wallets - it'd be nice to at least have the option to sell if one wanted to.

Looks like the taxi just arrived - will be interesting to see what the prices for everything look like, when arrive in Cali at 10pm PST.

Gosh, looking back 4hrs did seem like kind of a lot of time to leave to make sure to get to the airport on time, even during rush hour lol ...

We actually just made it past security though! It doesn't even seem to be very busy here yet with a holiday rush - not like it was on the trip to NYC when there were all those delays. Guess lots of little lines at each little step along the way can really start to add up though?

Really hope Bitcoin doesn't drop much further - hopefully everybody in Asia is just waking up and checking their iPhones for the latest price and are excited to see all the bargains to be had, and start buying?

Going to grab some snacks before boarding - the +5hr flight to LA in cramped quarters has to be one of the worst life experiences of all of life Am starting to sound super spoiled again Guess having the chance to travel to different places is lovely

Anyways - guess should be there in not too long ...

Ahh, just got to my brother's house a couple of minutes ago - our flight left late, and then had to wait quite a while for our luggage. LAX was still packed with people because they have red eye flights that leave for the East coast at this time of night, so guess the night crew must have been quite busy trying to get everything done ...

My last 5hr flight to LA seemed to go a tiny bit faster with the help of an in-flight movie - wish the internet had been working better, so would have been able to check all the available movies on Rotten Tomatoes ... wound up giving Atomic Blonde a try, and it was quite strange Charlize Theron is supposed to be a British Agent, but then at the end we find out she's actually a Russian double-agent ... who's really American! Or is she?? It's so much easier to follow the plot when the movie's called Paul Blart Mall Cop, and the movie winds up being about a mall cop named Paul Blart

There was actually some limited free internet on the flight - the only site that was working was the google search engine, so was able to stay up to day on bitcoin's price and see headlines, but couldn't read any of the articles. What a wild day for crypto it's been, with first the S. Korean government deciding against offering up a regulatory framework, and then there was the report of a hack of an exchange ... am now seeing headlines about possible trading improprieties of Bitcoin Cash being behind the big surge in price on Coinbase or something?

Funny thing about crypto - everybody thinks am such a rock star for having bought in at ~US$3.5k, and selling at US$10k. Kind of hard to find people who understand what it's felt like to try and make investing choices for something with so much uncertainty and volatility, with so much $ at stake. Mentioned before how bruising an experience it's been at times for me - and probably for everybody else too? Can see so many ways where it's been possible for people to make very sound choices - and wind up getting punished by the markets nonetheless.

Sometimes those huge gains that show up next to each of the different coins can look so great - guess sometimes big gains can go hand in hand with big corrections? Guess there's still a chance the markets could still be due for more rough days in the next little while - although interest in crypto- currencies still seems to be through the roof as well?

Would be lovely to see some calm return to the markets tomorrow <3

My nephews have a bunch of artwork from school up on the mantle - looks like the older one could totally land himself a job in the Porter Airlines ad department, if he wanted to go in that direction

There always seems to be a couple of things that wind up getting overlooked when packing up for a trip - didn't have a chance to set up internet on a local sim card before leaving home. Still have the sim card from the NYC trip, so that helps - so hopefully it won't take too long to get service going?

It's super cozy at my brother and sister-in-law's place - they've basically recreated a fresh version of our childhood home, so it feels exactly the same Could stay in and lounge all day - but they already have a tree set up, and my nephews would probably love to see fresh presents under the tree when they get home from school. Already have the football book from home, and hopefully there will be lots of other fun stuff in stock in the stores as well

They've got an interesting coffee maker - nobody actually drinks coffee in their house, so had to make a fresh pot in the morning. It's got a little grinder built into the machine, so the coffee's freshly ground right before brewing. Seemed like kind of a neat idea in theory, but couldn't actually really taste much of a difference from my usual cup of brew?

It's not as warm as was expecting just yet - still need fleece in the morning. But lots of people were wearing t-shirts at the airport yesterday, so maybe it'll warm up by afternoon? All the malls are outdoor here because people don't like to be indoors on a nice sunny day - was reading online that one of them even makes snow at 7pm-8pm every night so people can have a Winter experience lol.

Crazy what's happening with Bitcoin Cash

Am currently at an after-school karate class - just watching of course, and not participating

The class is filled with little boys who are running all over the place - suspect a lot of the parents like it because it’s a high energy activity ... like better that everything gets burned off at the gym instead of at home, climbing the walls?

Have a couple of pics from the mall - should have some time to post them after karate class wraps up

Despite the karate classes, it's still pretty high energy here right now - there's a Laker game showing on SportCenter, and my brother's got my two nephews chanting and cheering and going wild ... ahhh ....

May go into the study after din and catch up on crypto for a bit. Our Uber driver to Century City Mall wouldn't stop talking about bitcoin! After telling him that had bought bitcoin around $3.5k and sold it around $10k, he told me i should have just cashed out the original $10k, and let it roll for with the rest of the profits, because yolo. So much easier to make investing decisions when it's other peoples' money, and with hindsight knowledge that the price wound up going up to $20k

He said he was eager to finally buy bitcoin, after balking when it was $2k - but he wants to wait for the price to go back down before giving it a try. He made it seem like there's definitely still people on the sidelines, who are excited about where crypto might go, who are still looking to jump into the pool at some point to give things a try?

The mall was more interesting than the usual trip to the mall - something that's different here in California, is that they seem to have adapted to technology a lot quicker than they have at home? Like last night at LAX, they had a bunch of charging stations set up for everybody's electric vehicles, and the whole lane was filled with Teslas. And then today at the mall, they had charging stations set up in the food court, so people could use their laptops while eating lunch ...

Also had a another celebrity sighting - this time, saw Terry Crews at the Microsoft Store. Not sure what else he's been in besides White Chicks lol - but he's got some great advice in Tim Ferriss' new book, and have seen him in the news quite a bit lately. Wish the photo had turned out better, but it looked like he was already starting to feel overwhelmed by all the attention he was getting from the Microsoft staff, so didn't want to get too much closer ...

This is one of those outdoor malls - they had an Eataly upstairs which super busy. For some reason my pics of the place never seem to turn out, so will just post a pic of the mall.

There were even a couple of great deals here and there - this skincare sampler was only $10! Maybe stores are feeling a lot of pressure to try and compete with Amazon these days?

Going to relax, and do a little catch-up on the crypto now Looks like it's been a pretty wild couple of days?

What time is it - bed time yet?? Oh wait ...

Wanted to stay up late, so would arrive at the airport last night still somewhat functional and able to pick up the right bag, without toppling over onto the conveyor belt and what have you

May still have a little jet lag - and everybody at my brother's house actually goes to bed pretty early, especially my little nephews. So maybe okay to go to bed a little earlier? Besides, have two little Christmas plays to go to early tomorrow and Friday morning - with cookies and juice for all after the show ... so for sure want to make sure to catch those!

My daily crypto reality check for the day - was noticing that ripple was up to fomo-inducing levels today of something like 30%. Those gains look so amazing, but there seem to be so many people who are into ripple who also like litecoin and ethereum. So wouldn't be surprised if a decent amount of people who have ripple also have some of the other two - and while ripple's up 30%, litecoin appears to be down about that same amount from a couple of days ago, while ethereum's been about flat. So if my coins hadn't auto-sold before my flight the other day, today's 30% gain of ripple would just be putting me back up to $0 of gain. Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people are up a lot less than they seem

Forgot that Bitfinex is like PokerStars, and doesn't allow activity when people are visiting the US - so have no way to get back into crypto until the new year, even if was wanting to. Was looking things over, and it seems like everybody's guess is as good as anybody else's as to where things may be headed for each of the various coins?

Have no idea where stocks are headed either - my two stocks didn't pop today as hoped after the tax bill finally got passed. So stocks have basically been flat for a couple of months now. Guess we're supposed to take a much longer view of things - where eventually these poker-type investing edges should ultimately prevail over the short-term swongs? In the midst of some of these short-term swings though, have sometimes found myself wishing the long-term would hurry and get here and help dig me out of the various holes my little 'experiments' have gotten me into

It seems like there's so much money out there in the world that people are just looking to invest in something - first there was poker, and then there was crypto. And most of the time there's stocks and real estate. Probably it's true that in the long-term things always wind up growing, even if it may not always feel that way in the short-term. Warren Buffett's always reminding people of all the downswings he's had to endure to get where he is today - the Vietnam War, Presidential impeachments, rampant inflation, oil embargos, dot-com booms, banking crises, gold booms and busts, etc. Maybe his greatest asset is patience?

Not sure what's on the agenda after the Christmas play and snack time My brother and sister-in-law may have to go back to work, so may have time to order some stuff from Amazon, and go for a little jog around the neighborhood?

Was just looking at the bitcoin graphs - can't totally be sure if am seeing what am seeing, as am still learning

Will just post what am seeing, and everybody can decide for themselves if the indicators offer any help whatsoever

Was just noticing that the selling to $15k at around 11am EST this morning seemed to happen with quite a lot of magnitude and velocity (first orange arrow down to green line)? Although it looks like lots of people have buy order set for $15k as well (second orange arrow up from green line), which was maybe a good sign at the time?

On it's face the rise back to $15.8k in under an hour maybe sort of may have looked like a good sign as well? But maybe it's not so good that it took almost an hour to recover when it only took something like 10 minutes for it to fall that far in the first place?

Something else that may be cause for concern is that the purple line didn't go as high as it could have? Guess if the interest in buying back had been much stronger, the price would have maybe risen a bit higher, and the purple line would have gone all the way over 80, instead of stopping at 70?

The people who may be willing to buy back into the market as it's falling may be the kind of people who may care if the purple line rises to 70 or 80, if it's traders who are still buying into the market right now? So guess that's maybe why the next time the prices fell back down to $15k (3rd orange arrow moving past $15k, second blue arrow dropping all the way down to 20), they may not have bothered to buy back in at that same level - if they felt they could buy back in even lower (purple line dropping down to 20 is the signal to buy, 4th orange arrow starts to move up below $15k)?

Now am seeing the price holding steady, and the purple line is staying between 70 and 30 - so maybe no danger of the price dropping lower for now? But maybe some signs there to be concerned about, if the selling may be stronger than the buying, for anyone may be considering selling?

Guess maybe some people are still interested in hodling for the long-term, so no worries about the variance in the short-term, although it must not be the greatest thing to have to watch

These indicators don't really seem to help with how low the price may wind up going - hopefully things won't drop too much farther ...

Woke up with the sun ... and also my nephew shaking me awake to make sure was up in time to catch the Christmas concert!

We arrived 15 minutes early, and still didn't manage to get very good seats - who knew this would be the hottest show in town It was quite an interactive event, because all the kids were so excited to have the big day they've been practicing for finally arrive, with all there family there to watch - so there were lots of waves throughout the show, with this one little girl blowing kisses at her dad the whole time Then there was the Mom who yelled out, "Jimmy stop picking your nose!" right in the middle of Silent Night

Every family was supposed to bring in some homemade cookies, but a couple of families cheated and brought store-bought goods - they didn't even try to hide it, by repackaging them into storage containers! Guess life can get busy when trying to get everything done in a family with a couple of extra children to have to look after as well - sometimes these children don't always know how to do everything just yet, and wind up spilling juice all over themselves, and taking whole rows of cheese and leaving the crackers, etc. Raising kids seems like it must be very rewarding, but also lots of work ...

May be headed out to a Farmer's Market later in a bit? It's so beautiful out today, with the sun shining

PS. Not sure what happened, but it looks like my stop-limit on ripple didn't get executed

Looks like maybe a misclick?? What silly luck Just goes to show how much randomness there may sometimes be in some of these crypto gains

Am not able to tell which way ripple may be going - it looks like it may go back down, but last time ethereum looked like that, it rose another 25% or something like that ... so who knows??

Guess there's a chance it could be back down to zero by the time am home in the new year? So won't get attached to the gains just yet. The paper profits don't actually seem to be all that huge, since the amount isn't so big. So guess that'll be true on an upswing and also on any possible downswing as well ...

EDIT: Oh, it just dropped $0.07 in 30 seconds - in before busto

Hey, figured out a way to make people feel good about the price drop of bitcoin that's happening right now - no matter how things may feel right now, those of you who were willing to hodl all the way up to $20k are still $4k ahead of me, who sold when the price was $10k

Looks like there was a nice bounce up at $13k a couple of hours ago - not sure, but it may be too soon to tell if the bounce has enough steam to get a rally going to turn things around? Hopefully!

Was doing some e-shopping on Amazon, and was seeing some interesting things - looks like Amazon's competition has started selling on Amazon Marketplace?? Unfortunate that they still aren't able to offer free one-day shipping though, for those of us who have left out gift shopping to the last minute?

Yes, am buying someone printer ink for Christmas - not the most exciting thing to be buying and giving as a gift, but it was on someone's list! Guess it's safe to assume that it's a gift that will at least have a decent chance of being put to good use

They also seem to have some sort of currency program have never seen before - guess it's for people buying stuff from Amazon.com who live in other places of the world besides the US? Do companies lose money if people pay in a different currency? Or make money if they pay in their own, or something?

We went to another big shopping area today, with a farmer's market and an outdoor mall that stretched out for a couple of blocks - but didn't actually wind up finding any gifts.

Was expecting something like Eataly at the Original Farmer's Market, but the food quality was maybe more like what's available at most food courts - although it was nice to be able to eat alfresco on a nice sunny day ...

And The Grove was pretty, both during daylight ...

... and after dark. Although it seemed like maybe more of a tourist attraction than a place people locals would usually go to shop - with the trolley rides and the Santa hut in the middle of the walkway ...

And under the Santa sleigh and in front of the Christmas Tree is where they sometimes film tv shows like Extra with Mario Lopez, and the Dancing with the Stars finale ...

Have another Christmas play to attend tomorrow morning, and then school will be letting out at noon and will be going to salad buffet place called Souplantation to kick off the start of the holiday break. Kind of a strange name for a restaurant, but the food's supposed to be pretty good ...

At some point, people will come back in and be wanting to buy more than people will be willing to sell - hopefully it's sooner rather than later <3

Finally have a celebrity sighting of someone that people may know - this proud papa woke up Fast and Furious to come to the Christmas pageant this morning

His girlfriend brought chicken and waffles for everybody - then Vin came in with his sunglasses and gave out gifts like Santa and then left, without ever taking off his sunglasses before anyone had a chance to fanboy/girl all over him

Some of the kids were opening the presents already, even though it's before Christmas, and he gave all the boys cars.

Going to be going to the outdoor mall by the beach this afternoon, and then a celebrity chef restaurant after that. Leaving for lunch now ...

The lights were so pretty at The Grove! Not sure if this is typical, but the traffic to get there was quite heavy - there was a point where it was taking about 15 minutes to travel just a block or two ... and this was in the middle of the afternoon, around 2pm? Those Elon Musk tunnels can't come soon enough!

Have some other pics have taken of around LA that may seem familiar as well. We don't get great sunsets in my city, for some reason - maybe there needs to be something picturesque in the West end of town for things to look especially pretty? My city's got mostly buildings, so having the chance to see the sun set down by the ocean was lovely
These photos are both unretouched - the clouds in the sky in the second one reminded me a bit of a Van Gogh painting!

And all succulents and cactuses around town are so pretty too ...

Finally had the chance to go for a jog today - wow, am so out of shape ... yikes! Anyways, there were these palm fronds lying all over the sidewalk everywhere. The big thing the city has to take care of in my city is snow removal - guess in LA there must be someone from the city who goes around collecting all these fallen palm tree leaves?

Am so relieved to finally be done with the gift shopping for this year - so many wild and wacky things out there for sale to pour over, like the $100 smart lightbulbs, and the Gronk speakers, etc.

Just have to wrap all the gifts, and then will be helping prepare the big dinner for tomorrow and on Christmas day. Not sure if we'll be going to back to the mall to look for bargains on the 26th, or if will maybe go see a movie or something like that?

Happy Holidays HUMBLE.!!

All my favourite movies seem to have the same basic theme of an everyday type person who does more than anyone ever believed was possible, thanks to them having a lot of heart - Paul Blart (Paul Blart 2), Happy Gilmore (Billy Madison), Dumb and Dumber, Home Alone (Home Alone 2), Legally Blonde (Legally Blonde 2), Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption, etc. They must be pretty popular if they keep making sequels to those types of movies - after seeing one Chalize Theron assassin movie, am not so sure people will be all that eager to go back and see another!

That Kramer clip is hilarious!! Why is he in a kid's class?? lololll!! Cool that you know how to do karate! My nephews don't really do any real fighting or anything like that - but they seem to really enjoy having the chance to scrap around, and all that?

And huge congrats on the big poker wins you've had recently Hank!! Great news - so awesome to hear that good things have been coming your way Have never actually played higher than 5c/10c lol! So have never actually tried playing live, because the stakes are so high Maybe one day should give playing live a try though. So today, my mom, my sister-in-law, and i were going to prepare dinner for all of us, as well as her parents and her brother and his wife and little girl, because her brother and his family are going to be flying back to Sacramento tomorrow morning to spend the rest of the day with his wife's family.

My sister-in-law however appears to have suddenly developed a headache early this afternoon, as well as a new-found appreciation for football - so she's been sitting on the couch all afternoon vegging while my mom and i do all the work ... fml

My sister-in-law actually doesn't cook, so guess it shouldn't have come as too much of a surprise that she wasn't going to be able to contribute all that much. We've actually been eating out all our meals at restaurants since we've arrived Guess there's lots of people in California who are willing to work hard for entry-level pay, so they usually have someone who comes in for a couple of hours each week to buy groceries and make meals for them, except they're off for vacation right now? And then they'll also buy prepared foods and order take-out and eat out the rest of the time, etc?

Gosh, is it ever gorgeous out though! Don't tend to get jealous of too much in life, but wow is sunny California ever beautiful ...

People are so lucky to have t-shirt weather in December - guess there's a whole culture that goes with the great weather? There seems to be a great outdoor cafe culture, and farmer's markets everywhere. The one we went to this morning had a vendor who was serving up peace and love alongside avocado toast

Guess sunnier weather also means a wider variety of fresh local produce year-round - there seems to be a gazillion varieties of every fruit and veggie, and prices are really reasonable, even for organic produce ...

There also seems to be an abundance of really reasonably-priced fresh flowers as well ...

Looks like my nephews are headed out to buy some cookies to leave out for Santa tonight My 6yr old nephew's really smart - asked him today if he would like to go visit Santa at the mall, since they hadn't already. And he was highly skeptical that the mall Santa could possibly real, because shouldn't he be loading up his sleigh and on is way to Australia at the moment? He didn't want to spend his time meeting with a fake Santa, so he said he wanted to pass

He already skipped a grade and is starting to get those comments from his teachers already about trying to learn how to be more tactful when correcting teacher's mistakes. Did everybody else here get those comments on their report cards growing up? Seem to remember being a couple of years older before that starting happening for me - but oh yes, that even happened to me lol!! Was older than 6 tho

Anyways, have to go peel some potatoes, and should maybe check in on the turkey ...

My sister-in-law's brother is supposed to work for some sort of small hedge fund, so was hoping it might be one of the ones that's gotten into bitcoin this year? It would have been such a great opportunity to hear more about bitcoin from a different perspective! But unfortunately they haven't, so instead got a seminar on convertible bonds - after +1hrs, am still not totally sure what they are lol

The family tree this year isn't so cute - didn't realize the tree was real until one of the oraments rolled off and went to put it back on the tree. It looks like the seller trimmed all the branches to make the tree into a more perfect cone shape? Guess since they don't have pine trees around here, someone must have thought the way they looked naturally looked a little scraggly or something, and tried to tidy them up?

Fun having the chance to spend time with family, especially over nice food - but am pretty beat too. Have to get up early in the morning tomorrow to unwrap presents, so should get to bed.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everybody!!
