My idea of enjoying sports usually involves watching the Olympics on tv - so here goes nothing

Will try it for 5 minutes and see how things go

Was pedalling pretty fast on the exercise bike, but it didn't feel like anything was happening for the first couple of minutes?

Then it started to feel a bit more like exercise - the monitor says the distance travelled was 'Distance: 1.0' ... not sure if it was km or miles? Whichever's longer, it was probably the other one

Lucky thing have been on that 'try something new' kick, and decided to give the bike a try for a change - do feel more energized! May try some more before looking at some bitcoin cash stuff?

More Segwit2X, and Some Bitcoin Cash Stuff

1. Segwit2X Hard Fork
a) Coindesk Op-Ed - https://www.coindesk.com/opinion-segwit2x-doomed-fail/

Found another prediction of what may be in store before and after the Segwit2x fork - this person believes that the very fact that this Segwit2x hard fork has the potential to be so disastrous, is what should cause most people to back off from supporting it. And if so, he says we should see more people in the coming week leading up to the fork coming out to say they no longer support it? He's also hoping that will mean that even if they do go through with the fork, any chaos that ensues will be short-lived - and feels that ultimately the original bitcoin should wind up emerging stronger than ever, after withstanding another fork.

Now am kind of feeling like maybe it'll be best to 'hodl', even with the potential for this fork to get a little bit messy?

b) B2X Coins, and the Lack of 'Replay Protection' - https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@...aximize-profit

This blogger had kind of an interesting idea - guess usually people recommend that everybody store our bitcoin in our own wallet when a fork happens, to ensure that we have control of the keys when the fork splits off?
And then everybody who does that will usually automatically have access to the newly created coins, in addition to their original bitcoin?

Because of the lack of replay protection with this next fork, apparently the coins will have to be manually split to make sure they both aren't sent any time there's a transaction? And it may not be so easy for individuals to do on their own - so this person had the idea to leave his bitcoin on an exchange that's promised to do the splitting for people who have their bitcoin on the exchange at the time of the fork. And then they'll credit everybody with the new coin, and put it in a separate account ...

Does that sound like it may be a good idea?

2. Bitcoin Cash (BCH)
a) Forbes - https://www.forbes.com/sites/cbovair.../#6c9e10e46c74

It looks like Bitcoin Cash is super popular in South Korea - guess people there feel like it maybe has a future as a Bitcoin with faster and cheaper transactions, and see it growing in popularity over time?

There's an exchange that accepts Canadian deposits called Kraken that sells BCH - am in the middle of sending a teeny bit of my bitcoin to that exchange, to get some BCH. Not sure what to expect - hopefully it goes anywhere but down?

PLAN FOR THE FORK: It feels like it's been helpful spending some time reading about how everybody else is preparing for the fork - so guess may hold onto most of my bitcoin, and transfer it to Bitfinex to make sure the coins get ... split? And then will buy a little bit of bitcoin cash, and hope for the best?

The marketing stuff have been wanting to post for a couple of days is pretty interesting - guess have been more worried about the bitcoin fork, since it's going to be happening pretty soon. Oh well, there's always tomorrow

Hi, Trusty Sam. The exercise bike is a great idea. I am looking at one now as I type.

Everything I read points that the safest place to store your bitcoin is not online, but either in a hardware wallet (eg., Trezor) or paper wallet in "cold storage".

"If you don't have your private keys, then you don't really own your bitcoin" is a mantra I've heard, meaning that unless you hold your own private keys, then you are subject to the policies (which do vary) of the site wherever you store your coin online.

The pros for holding your bitcoin on an exchange (that supports the hard forked coins) is that you might be able to trade these coins sooner than others along with the ease of trading. But there is risk for holding coin on an exchange.

Hey HUMBLE.!!

Felt much better after exercising yesterday than will usually wind up feeling after a nap Must say though, it wasn't the most exciting way to spend 30 minutes minutes - while pedalling away yesterday, was really wishing had picked up this bike instead ... the one with the laptop stand that makes it possible to play pet rescue while biking away It looks like it might even have a snack and beverage holder in the upper RH corner? lol

Guess there's always a chance as well that they might not go through with the fork?

Marketing - Similar to Poker?

With it getting darker and colder out, had gone in search of a new hobby to keep me occupied over the long Winter months. And had seen a video about a study which found that people who do well in life aren't always the people who did well at school - and it's inspired me to go in search of what it is that others know about life that maybe isn't being taught at school?

Book Recommendation From Tim Ferriss - The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing
My search led me to Tim Ferriss materials - he's become famous for publishing advice gathered from people at the top of their fields. However his blogs and videos seemed to have a very strong marketing aspect to them - in his video, he even recommended a marketing book called 'The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing'.

Had a copy delivered by Amazon - and maybe now understand a bit more what marketing's about in the big picture? Marketing stuff has always seemed like it comes from a different planet - and this book pretty much confirmed it

The first line of the book starts off with this, "Many people believe that ... marketing is [about] convincing prospects that you have a better product or service. Not true." The main idea of the book seems to be that out in the real world, merit and excellence don't always prevail - other things matter more, like being the first to have initiative, etc.

Their approach kind of reminded me of Arnold Snyder's poker book, where he kept saying if you want to get better at poker, try not to look at your cards (), because they don't win tournaments nearly as often as stack size, position?

Guess in poker it can be really hard to win with just a lucky run of cards, and it can also be really hard to win just with skill without any help from the deck - if business is like poker, maybe important to have more than just quality holdings?

Best of Both Worlds - Tim Ferriss and Oprah?
After reading the book, kind of got the impression there were maybe two very different ways of looking at the world?
Realists/Pragmatists - maybe tend to see the world as it really is, and feel like merit isn't always rewarded and life isn't always fair
  • maybe assume everybody is looking out for themselves
  • value money, fame, power, influence. notoriety?
  • use aggression to shape their fate

Idealists - maybe look at the ways the world could be better and improved upon
  • value fairness, merit, quality, social progress, human happiness
  • use excellence/ingenuity to shape their fate
Guess everybody is a bit of both - but it also feels like maybe the two worldviews may conflict to a certain degree - so wonder if it's maybe more common in life for people to be one more than the other?

Two people who seem to have found a way to be both are maybe Tim Ferriss and Oprah?

Tim Ferriss' website seemed to have some pretty heavy-duty marketing - but his advice also seems to be very high quality?

Guess asking for something from people tends to oftentimes feel like asking for a favour - but maybe when a business has a really great product to offer, people may ultimately wind up happy that they were given the chance to hear about something fun?

While Oprah's always got great advice - yet she also doesn't appear to be shy about doing stuff like making her own book #1 on her list of Favorite Things

Summary: Maybe schools only teach book smarts - as my Winter project, may try to see if am able to learn more about 'street smarts' from watching and reading Tim Ferriss materials? He appears to be someone who's comfortable in that domain, who also seems to have high quality products?

Guess can start by finishing that marketing book he recommended Will maybe try to do a little book summary tomorrow?

Bitcoin Cash (BCH)

Also, sold 0.25 bitcoin yesterday and picked up some bitcoin cash - turns out they do sell it at Quadriga, just didn't notice it was there

Am always relieved to see the price of things go up, after starting off with that bad habit of buying high only to have the price go down So, so far so good ...

It seems to be shadowing Bitcoin so far ... sample size of 1 day Maybe not much difference from keeping it in Bitcoin, will have to see?

Also my wire transfer got deposited into my account today - screwed up by not buying because trying to get a little lower price, while the price was low ... and now it's a lot higher Hope it maybe goes back down again, otherwise guess it'll be okay if the price keeps going up and up some more?

Better turn in now

Gosh - wound up buying on a high ... again

When reading through all those op-eds and blog pieces, there did seem to be a decent number of people who didn't seem to see this fork as being any different from any of the previous ones - so maybe it's not so surprising that there's been a sell-off as well?

That CME bitcoin futures exchange is supposed to be opening up at the end of November though - and maybe they'll decide to do the fork in the future after all, if they add that replay protection to make people more comfortable with it?

So hopefully the price will start to go back up soon?

Going to go for another walk in the dark now - Survivor and the Great Canadian Baking Show are on tv tonight

Yes, I was glad that the segwit2x was cancelled, too.

I was looking into Altcoins (mainly Ethereum) as they have a large market share, are useful, and they should do well since btc will begin selling off since many traders were holding for the B2X forked coins.

Are you going to sell your bitcoin HUMBLE.? Or will you be hodling, and adding on the other coins?

Am still holding onto my bitcoin - although the price been rising so much so quickly, it does seem like there's a chance it could go flat or start to drop if people maybe feel like some of the other alt-coins may be undervalued, or if maybe people may want to put their money into something else for the time being?

Am hoping as well that some other coins may start taking off - just picked up some Bitcoin Cash the other day. And still have my Bitcoin Gold stuck in limbo on my exchange - they said it should be available "soon" ... which in their time, could still mean weeks Ethereum sounds really promising, and got off to that great start at the beginning of the year - since then though, for some reason the price seems to have not moved too much?

Also still have money in the stock market - wound up selling my BABA and buying some AAPL ... it sounds like the iPhone X is going to be a big hit?

Hold BTC long term. Will trade fiat for BTC as necessary. Looking into ETH (ethereum) and XRP (ripple).

All plays will be long term unless their is a big event (such as a fork) in the near future.

I do this because:

1) I haven't found reliable public information that I can depend on for short term trades
2) I believe in the increasing utility of cryptocurrency (BTC specifically, and the aforementioned Altcoins).

So tilting. Any bump in the road in the age of internet and instant gratification hits me especially hard.

Honestly, I don't really need anything. The stuff that I need, I purchase as needed. And what's cool is that what I need (laptop, phone, etc.) is what I like .

What I will do is treat some relatives. I feel good being able to give and feel sad when I don't.

What about yourself? I think I read vacation somewhere in your earlier posts.

Yes, same here - guess there isn't anything that's a must-have. And same with my friends and family - will get everybody some nice things for the holidays, but guess that's the same as every year

Had been hoping to find some affordable art to hang on the wall at one of the art festivals was going to over the summer - saw many pretty paintings, but they all seemed kind of pricey. And maybe pricey wouldn't be so bad if they had the same resale value? Like guess then maybe it'd be an investment piece, as well as a treat?

Started looking at what sort of paintings are available online, and noticed that some of the paintings at auction houses can be fairly reasonable. And what's nice about the stuff being sold by auction houses is that they've been appraised - so maybe there's a better chance of the price staying at least the same over time?

Instead of a painting though, now have my eye on some historical maps! Some of them look a bit artistic, guess because they were printed from etchings, and coloured in by hand? This one from 1811 is only CAD$150, and is kind of neat because Canada was only half 'settled' at that point, and it's showing current-day Alberta as being inhabited by Blackfoot Indians, and Saskatchewan as being inhabited by Cree ...

Will have to see how high the prices go - maybe it's only worth $150, but since there's only 1 and there may be two of us who want it ... and what if the other person has extra cash lying around thanks to bitcoin as well?

Tried placing a bid on the map was eyeing yesterday - not sure how +EV it is to be willing to pay more than something's supposed to be worth? But it turns out was not the only fish in the pool clicking buttons trying to get that map! It wound up going for 2-3x more than it was actually worth
(it's the one up top)

These auction bidding pools reminded me so much of the player pools on Stars - guess at the entry level, the money's small enough that maybe quite a few people don't mind splashing around a little bit? And then as the tiers get higher, it looks like people start to get a bit more serious with their $?

Recreational Player Auction Strategies

Not sure how high 'Paddle #404' may have been willing to go to get that map that all of us wanted - after a certain point, it started to seem like maybe it might be a better deal to get the $250 map for $300? Or ... guess was the $400 map for $400 the best deal of all?

There were also some maps from 1811 of the US and a couple of them went for less than they're worth - guess people mostly wanted the maps that show home, but maybe this was the map to buy?

Am a lil disappointed wasn't able to get the map was eyeing - although, guess that wasn't going to be possible for less than $325 with everybody else wanting to do the same

This my first time trying to buy something from an online auction house - they have interesting stuff for sale all the time, so hopefully may be able to find something else for $150 or so, and get a better deal next time?

Bitcoin Big Picture Stuff

Guess the cancellation of the Segwit2x fork that was designed to try and speed up bitcoin transactions left some unfinished business in it's wake - a decent amount of the more recent bitcoin articles seemed to want to explore the question of 'where does bitcoin go from here?'

1. Forbes - https://www.forbes.com/sites/ktorpey.../#1c4f18922233
This writer was quite idealistic about bitcoin hopefully find a way to fulfill it's potential as both a store of value and medium of exchange - he said it may be possible to do both, without having to sacrifice decentralization?

2. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...owth-in-doubt/
This piece was a little more pessimistic - guess he feels like decentralization isn't nearly as important as speeding up transactions, and seems to feel that unless bitcoin is able to speed up transactions, it may wind up stuck?

3. https://www.aier.org/blog/defense-bitcoin-gridlock
While this third piece says being stuck may not be such a bad thing, if it means preventing power from being concentrated in the hands of the few ...

Some Inspiration
Guess bitcoin is still in it's infancy - and maybe because it's still being developed and because it's gotten so much buzz, some people have likened it to the dot com bubble?

When doing research on Amazon at the beginning of the year, remembered seeing a lot of stuff written about them from back in the day, when they were short on results but had potential. Guess after the dot com bubble burst, Amazon stock lost 90% of it's value - and the Economist said at the time that their best shot at turning a profit would be to hope to get bought out by Walmart (!)

Pretty funny to hear how people saw Amazon has maybe just part of a fad, and now it's running the world! Hope that's true that it may be possible to make bitcoin faster, without having to sacrifice the qualities that make it unique. Then there'd be nothing else in the world quite like it

SUMMARY: There seems to be a desire to want to find ways to make bitcoin transactions faster - hopefully they'll continue to try to do it in a way that maintains the characteristics that made bitcoin so popular in the first place, and hopefully the price will continue to rise as they keep trying to find different ways to possibly make it faster?

Am not tired now because of my nap Should try to get some sleep

Bitcoin getting some coverage on the nationally syndicated and internationally renowned "Fresh-Air" NPR show. Hey Hank!!

That does sound like good news for bitcoin - it seems to have gotten a lot of buzz this year, and the more it gets, the bigger it seems to become?

Haven't ever listened to too may podcasts, but this bitcoin one sounds interesting. It's been getting colder, and it even started to snow today, so have been on the lookout for more indoor activities in recent days. Have mostly just been resting my eyelids - so having something to listen to while lounging around seems like it should be an improvement from what am currently doing now

Just checked to see what the biking weather's been like in sunny Florida lately - Google says it's 70° out today ... is it really that warm? Are you and Sven still riding around town in your shorts? That's got to be nice ...

Does it getting dark out earlier change peoples' ordering habits? Hopefully the cars are careful about watching out for bikes at night - weekends must be good for business?

Thanks for the podcast link Hank - always great to have you stop by ... happy weekend to you and Sven!!

Portfolio Update - Short-Term Move from Bitcoin to Bitcoin Cash

Little portfolio update - guess some people just like to stay put with their investments. And hopefully there's others that like to buy and sell a little more often?

Last night, noticed that bitcoin cash seemed to be starting to rise, so went and sold the bitcoin had bought the other day at a high with my new deposit, and used what was remaining to buy more bitcoin cash.

Then this afternoon, noticed that it was still rising? So sold the rest of my bitcoin and put it all in bitcoin cash for the time being. Good thing was disorganized about moving my coins to my wallet - so they were there at the exchange, ready for trading

Only seem to be up an extra couple of hundred, after buying into bitcoin high and then selling low, and after paying trading fees Gosh, do tend to be a bit impatient Will have to see where things go from here for BTC and BCH?

Not sure how high bitcoin cash may rise - it seems like people maybe feel like it's a bitcoin that can be used for payments ... would that maybe mean it may have room to go up a couple more thousand? Or is that wishful thinking?

Just meeting a friend for a quick dinner, than am going to come home and burrow in under the covers ... brrr!

Have been reading more of that marketing book that Tim Ferriss recommended as well, but was kind of struggling with it a bit.
