Well, we've reached an impasse I'm afraid. I consider it entirely relevant, and clearly unfair treatment to be told that I'm not allowed to post anything about anything anywhere else.

Cricket...Like...literally cricket.
Yes, it's very clear by now that you haven't grasped what a containment thread is despite people telling you for weeks.

A containment thread is a thread for you to post in, so all the other threads are kept clean of your terrible posts. TypicalBro has one, tbabs has one, you have one.

Right. On this point I must protest.

This was the post I made. The one, single, innocuous post on a subject irrelevant to me:

A friend of mine once said something along the lines of "Imagine David Beckham at the height of his fame, now imagine that he captained us to winning the World Cup, scored a hat-trick in the final with a last-minute free-kick winner, and he still wouldn't come close to the admiration and love that Indians have for Tendulkar.

My posts are better than yours. You should have a containment thread and I shouldn't.

So there!

Tyler, Fabian:

Not sure whether he's a troll or for real, but either way it's attention he seeks, not advice.

El D,

This is the Rasta containment thread, not the TB containment thread. Oh wait.

Ok; advice.

How do you think someone like myself, who wants to get into political writing, might get his work out there and go about building up a portfolio of work whilst nevertheless appearing humble and eager to learn, rather than appearing as someone who thinks he's smarter than he is?

And instead of starting on March 25th, start today.

Rasta, I don't understand why you don't post in Politics Unchained. You can argue to your heart's content and will probably come off as rational as anyone else in there. It's good practice, both for budding writers and for keeping your cool under pressure.

Alright, I'll keep you updated.

Incidentally I may actually start a new blog/website and work on making it look far more professional and presentable. Looking through my old postings there were far too many football posts and general 'funnies' in there for it to really be presentable.

So I'm going to adjust that one slightly; start new website.

Hey, if you say so pal, but I've had to go through today's exchanges to establish that I won't just be told to piss off to my containment thread like e̶v̶e̶r̶y̶o̶n̶e̶ no-one else who's a little bit controversial or divisive has to.

You should definitely post in PU! Excellent suggestion.

kioshk,

It's so obvious now that I'm kinda annoyed it didn't even occur to me before. The Sexodus thread was awful because two of the worst PU posters were doing their politarding in OOT. Makes complete sense.

Your cricket post was IMO just fine. It's your responses to it in the LC thread that irritate everyone.

I think you'd probably beat Custer in an OOT survivor, though.

Sure, but you do realise that you're kind of expecting me to just take the abuse and insults lying down right?

If I post about cricket or whatever (I'm not even much of a sodding cricket fan at all to be honest), its fair to say that any flack I get purely on account of posting anything at all, especially something as innocuous as that is undeserved.

Its not too much to ask that the blame be with the perpetrators.

Depends on your work ethic and whether you learn the right things.

You should share examples of your polished work. Forum posts aren't reliable litmus tests because effort levels can vary so wildly from person to person and post to post.

In your position, I would've stopped posting in OOT immediately. I don't see any reason to spend time where I have low status if I can help it. I might have said "you guys are kind of ******ed" (nothing over a sentence in length -- epic flame-outs are soooo bad) and left. Either that or just left outright.

Even if you don't realize it, you are doing your self-image a big disservice. OOT might have value to you as an outlet for discussion, or whatever, but that isn't enough.

Leaving shouldn't be thought of as a concession, as "be[ing] told to piss off", because you should have other things to do in life. Now that you've stayed for a while, you've lost a bunch of plausible deniability on that count, so you're going to have to take a hit. But consider it a lesson learned.

So when killa told me in pms that I would never be part of the core group of OOT posters and was just someone people laughed at , I guess he was right about that.

The Sexodus was a fairly self-absorbed thread, and did much to establish that aspect of your reputation -- which isn't helping you more broadly. So yes, simply ignore the insults. Responding to them derails the thread into a conversation about you, even if you didn't start it. If you take the high road long enough and well enough, your reputation will change.

I'm not giving you moral advice and I'm not making any observation with respect to justice or fairness. I'm simply telling you a practical approach that I am virtually certain will succeed.

You remind me of one of my wife's friends. Every conversation has to turn into a long winded examination of everyone's feelings and the deeper meaning behind it all. Most of the time, people just want to shoot the **** and you throw a big old turd into the middle of it.

I don't know what "the core group of OOT posters" really means tbh, but I for one consider you an "OOT regular" and enjoy your posting there. Jmakin was also on that list, and he's one of my favorite OOT posters.

Do you get laughed at sometimes? Yes, when you are being an overly whiny drama queen. But you get not laughed at a lot, too.

The list was simply one of angsty young men who complain a lot about their life on OOT with a whiny drama queen attention-whorish style, blame their problems on everyone else, don't listen to most advice given, and don't seem to put in much effort to change the things about their life they don't like. Except for jmakin, who listened to advice, worked his ass off, and appears to have gotten some great results.

I mean, look at this very post of yours. It sounds exactly like the type of post Rasta would make!

No argument there, theres a reason i bolded most of the statement and excluded jmakin from the list. I would disagree with not listening to advice I have gotten. I just haven't followed almost any of it for a few reasons we can just call it laziness.
