How are you tracking your sleep? With a fitbit or other device, or are you just estimating when you wake up?

This book really helped me: https://www.amazon.com/Sleep-Solutio...6356548&sr=1-1

The latter. The sleep totals are just a rough estimate of the naps taken throughout the day. The long sleep I've gotten was <1 hour .

I'm flirting with the idea of taking a shot of Zzquil in the near future. I wonder if this will impede my healing process. Does anyone know?

Day/night 17: 8 hours of sleep! Zzquil induced tho.

So I took a shot of Zzquil and got a full night's sleep. I think this is a big plus because OTCs have done nothing for me for the longest time.

I felt groggy after waking up for another six hours or so. Again, I think this is a great sign because the Zzquil affected me like it used to in my pre-Ambian days.

Throughout my pre-sleeping medication life, 8 hours of sleep meant very little sleep the next night. I expect tonight to be no different.

My plan going forward is to take sleeping medication every other night (alternating between OTCs and Ambien). It will be interesting to see how much Ambien I need for a full night's rest when I take it tomorrow.

All OTC sleep aids are antihistamines. Your body will adjust to them and they'll stop working in a few weeks/months.

When I was having a lot of trouble sleeping earlier this year I took zquil and it worked great for about 1 month and then it stopped working.

I can't recommend The Sleep Solution book enough. It completely changed the way I think about sleep. Here's a post I made in my H&F forum log about 2 months ago:

Dreams are pretty weird/a little disturbing. When trying to quit Ambien before, I experienced full blown night terrors, so we are improving.

I feel 100% functional, so I'm not suffering that sense. Thus, the decision to not take any medication right now is easy.

The reason for putting in this second-rehabilitation effort is that I have not received my medication yet. I checked today and still have not received it, so I have to got through at least 2 more nights of this.

A lot of pacing.

Oh, how sweet a handful of Ambien would be right now!

How much Ambien had you been taking prior to this renewed effort.

Same as OP: 100 mg (10 pills). Once it took me 160 mg to get 8 hours.

Night 10: 2 hours

I actually slept 5 hours, but I took Zzquil. I slept 2 hours earlier in the day, so I will only count those. The fact that Zzquil had an effect at all is really good news.

In one of the naps, I dreampt I took 2 Amben- haha.

Even after the whopping 5 hour Zzquil-aided sleep yesterday, I was still able get in my siesta, un-medicated. So that's good news.

Night 11: 1.5 hours

My Ambien arrived today! It took only 20 mg to get 6 hours.

My plan, going forward, is to break-up the week into 12 ~4 hour naps using Ambien.

I never had any problem with Ambien, except that I have grown an intolerance to it, and it takes more and more to work.

Another option is sleep a "normal" schedule 6 days/wk and put in an all-nighter 1 day/wk. I could take Zzquil that one night (but I doubt it would work).

Hey man this sounds serious... your body needs sleep to function and heal itself. Sleep deprivation is a huge reducer to life span, as shown by studies about people working graveyard shifts. Have you told the doctor(s) about how much ambient you have to take to sleep? And how little you sleep for weeks when off it? I wonder how they would recommend that you detox.

Anyways best of luck, this sounds brutal

Hey OP, this sounds like a nightmare but I hope your situation keeps improving and you're one day able to live a normal life. I definitely take the fact that I can doze off for eight hours like it's nothing for granted.
