I've always liked writing but lack of ambition and occasional bouts of depression and life circumstances have stifled my progress as a writer. Partly due to getting older (31 years old) and still not having a career (am going back to school for accounting but not sure on that path at the moment) have inspired me to write this blog. I have long dreamed of writing a memoir or a fiction novel based on some of my experiences of the past 15 years or so of my life. Back in like mid 2000's, I was doing decent on Pokerstars (abracadabrab was my user name if you wanna opr me) and won like $8-9k in like a two month span. Unfortunately, I was a fish in the mid stakes mixed games and draw games that my new found wealth steered me towards. I ended up losing all that money and eventually black friday put the final nail in my online poker dreams.
I grew up in Iowa City and the city has a highly respected literary community and the University of Iowa's Writer's Workshop has produced a
staggering amount of U.S. Poets Laureate and Pulitizer Prizes. I played poker at the local VFW when they had twice a week tournaments and started talking a lot with this older (at the time I was probably mid twenties and he was probably in his mid 30's) Indian guy who always played really well and was one of the few players that gave me trouble. His name was Cheeni and through the course of a year or so, began to know more of his life. He grew up in Chicago and was going to University of Chicago when he began to get addicted to drugs of all sort. Cocaine, heroin, you name it. He told me of seeing his running mate get stabbed to death in front of him. And other crazy stories. Sure enough, he told me he was going to U Of I and working on a memoir. I eventually bought it and it was fantastic. It is called
In Hanuman's Hands, if anyone is interested.
So I guess reading his memoir has inspired me a great deal as well. So, a bit of a long introduction, sorry everyone.
This blog is going to mainly focus on my various marijuana and psychedelic adventures throughout the years. I throw in some arrests, some close calls and whatnot as well. If this first installment is received well enough, I shall continue on. Note that I whipped up this first installment fairly quickly and am open to any and all criticism.
