Oh, I'm surprised to hear that. But I'm sure you'll like his stuff. There are a bunch of his movies on youtube. Although his arguably two best works, Ran and Kagemusha and Seven Samurai ( the magnificent seven copied from), unfortunately are not. Except for trailers.
I'm not a deep analyticer like yourself, but his films all mostly have to do with human nature.

Here's a list of some that I've seen that you might like.
Many more I haven't seen myself.

Dreams
Dersou Ouzoula ( highly recommend)
Stray dog
Ikiru,

To my disappointment, these are the only full movies of his I can now find. I'm sure there's more available for free.

If you can get Kanopy through your public library, they have several Kurosawa films.

Ok I thought so. My French is atrocious but in France I don’t think I’ve heard anyone say tires in English but seems most people there say email. In Quebec and probably for good reason they go out there way to use French words where in France they don’t bother. I don’t think you guys are to the extreme that a pizza place has to translate pizza to French on there sign but there is some oddities.

Fun fact the French word for tires is pneus. In my wife’s town there’s a tire shop called Berry Pneus that always gives juvenile me a chuckle when I drive by.

Thanks Nepeeme2008! I'll probably start with Dersou Ouzoula. I still have a little bit of pot laying around, so I'll grab some popcorn and make a movie night out of one of these nights.

Thanks Phat Mack! Unfortunately I still have some extremely overdue Mark Twain books out from Las Vegas, from way back in my nit-tastic days.

Someday I hope to get up the courage to scout out the local branch and sneak them back into the bin. I should probably do it soon, while I can still wear a mask. But I don't believe it will ever be a good idea to apply for a new library card with them.

Hey SJ

You'll actually find it easier under ' Dersu Uzala 1975 full movie with subtitles English Danish'

I haven't watched it in over a decade and noticed that there is also another version without subtitles out. And I just found out it's actually a remake of a 1961 version. It's not a Samurai movie, but directed from Kurosawa. I think it's the only none Japanese movie he ever directed.
It's not everyman's cup of tee, but I like these type of movies and I re watched it just yesterday.
Too bad there aren't more Kurosawa films I could find on YouTube but there are a ton of other old Japanese Samurai films and I found one that I really like that is written but not directed by Kurosawa. 'After the Rain'. It's slow paced and a little overly idealistic but as I said, I like this type of stuff. I recommend at least a look.

Since You're so into Shakespeare, I just somehow assumed you would be familiar with his stuff. Otherwise I would not have even brought it up. But nonetheless enjoy.

Uggh, such a shame. And I really wanted to watch it again, the quality is so poor ( after the rain ), it's unwatchable.

Like many people, I have some wide gaps in my education. I'm fortunate in that I'm aware of at least some of what I don't know. One of our old defense secretaries called these things "known unknowns," as opposed to "unknown unknowns," and it was possibly the wisest concept he ever spoke of.

Ha, I wish I knew about investing earlier. I would much rather have known more things about finance and business and poker than Kurosawa!
Don't sweat it, there are more important things to know about.

Hey, but now you know

Librarians tend to be pretty chill. I'd just hand them in, tell them you found them under the bed when you were moving, and offer to pay them if and when you get your job back caring for orphans. Always works for me. They've forgiven books for me that were several years overdue.

I think even with the past due books if you have a library card you should be able to use Kanopy. Also I don’t think it had to be a Vegas card.

You guys aren't library cops, are you? You have to say that you are, now that I asked. It's the law

All kidding aside, with my short roll right now, I can't take the chance of running into a strict, constructionist librarian and failing a persuasion check.

I don’t think there going to arrest it, if they don’t waive it, just don’t pay it. Tell them you lost your job due to COVId which is true.

Hard Eight is a classic. It may have been the first time I noticed John C Riley, and Philip Seymour Hoffman's dice junkie is perfect.

It was basically breakout roles for the three of them. Even Gwyneth Paltrow I think it was her first big role.

03:00: Wake up with a slight hangover. Drink any remaining malt liquor from the night before--usually not more than half a can will be left--goof around on the Internet and/or read until I fall back asleep around 05:30.

08:30: Wake up, brew a pot of coffee, drink 2/3 of the pot, goof around on the Internet until around 10:30.

10:30: Play either video games or a morning tourney on ACR, depending on my mood.

13:00-15:00: Set foot outside to fetch a huge lunch, which will constitute my complete daily food intake. The current favorite is at Burger King: thanks to a generous deal, a Whopper, a Sourdough King and a 10 piece order of chicken nuggets can all be had for a total of $7.70 after tax. Stop at the convenience store and pick up two 25 ounce cans of 22 proof Earthquake malt liquor, currently on sale at two for $2.79 after tax.

14:30-16:30: Finish my daily meal while washing it down with 1/2 to 1 can of malt liquor. Be sure not to drink any more at this time, as too much food and beer together will trigger a debilitating case of acid reflux if I fall asleep. Fall asleep.

19:00: Wake up. Drink the remaining coffee. Play video games until 22:15.

22:15: Play either more video games or the evening superturbo on Ignition, depending on my mood. If the former, then crack open the malt liquor right away; if the latter, then wait until I bust out of the tourney before drinking.

01:00: Fall asleep, pleasantly buzzed.

My daily routine has been less than ideal, and it can stand a few changes.

I'm taking a month off the sauce, starting today. Drinking has trifurcated my sleeping cycle and it's helped to keep me from playing enough tournaments to have at least a chance to make some money. It's also packed on the pounds. I'm 6'1 (186 cm) and I currently weigh 248 lbs (113 kg). With my frame, I could easily stand to lose 35 lbs (16 kg).

Normally, when I pick up lunch, I walk about a mile (1.6 km) round trip. Now that we're in for around 4 weeks of excellent weather before it starts getting hot, I've decided to start ranging further afield for lunch. I'll pick restaurants, convenience and grocery stores that are at least a mile away and thereby more than double my daily walk.

I also resolve to play a regular schedule of tournaments--written down and adhered to--and less video games.

FAQ: Why don't I just buy a week's worth of food at a time at the grocery store?

A: I've tried that in the past. I will eat the food, and I will keep compulsively eating it until it's all gone in 2-3 days.

This is how I expect probably a quarter of 2+2 folks spend there days. At least your honest.

Had to google Earthquake malt liquor, sounds terrible even ice cold freshly opened. Drinking from an open can in the middle of the night, noo. I suggest bottom shelf straight bourbon. Evan Williams black label can be had for $12 in a 1L bottle in Vegas.

This is what bum wine Bob has to say.

I’d consider trying to getting a part-time job. Not just to just help out financially but to for your mental health. Might be nice to have a routine that gets you out. Maybe a local bookstore, maybe the Gamblers Bookstore? I saw something on PBS about how actually a lot of local bookshops are thriving during COVID switching to a mixed online and curbside pickup model.

Did the math your roughly 40% better value with your malt liquor for alcohol content. If you want to go full hobo mode you can get Kentucky Gentlemen whiskey, bourbon mixed grain neutral spirits for $15.50 for a 1.75L plastic bottle, 80 proof. This comes out to a similar price point for alcohol content.

Gatsby never stood a chance with a schedule like this

What jumps out to me is the fast food intake. Seems like good self-awareness to avoid hitting the grocery store if you know you'll late-night binge-eat, but I wonder if there's an alternative to the Whopper + Nuggets within walking distance. (as an aside, this has to be an indictment on our society/fast food culture that the cheapest, most convenient options are also the unhealthiest)

Which video games? If the goal is to see how long we can avoid poker talk itt, this might be an exciting avenue to explore

I'm unrepentantly old school myself. NES and SNES ftw!

The fast food option has to be more about costs than just ease. Hard to beat that price but isn’t idea for long term health.
