Thanks for the pep talk Gambelina! I am not drinking at all. As of today I have some of my IRL mental game sorted, and I believe that I might venture out for a session.

Nat seems like a super guy, I like what he does here. However I think you need a local that you can meet up with a few times a week to shoot the crap.

Ideally a fellow a grinder that you can discuss hands and not necessirly bad beats.

This afternoon I made it down to the Rio and signed up for $1/$3, and landed around 20th on the list. After 5 names were called, I estimated my wait time to be just North of 2 hours. I left. I'm going to try again tomorrow morning around 8-9AM.

Poker is a lonely career choice. I think that's got to be part of your make up to pursue that type of career. Live isn't as bad as online though ldo.

Should tried to get laid though!

Thoughts out to Big Papi, shot in the Dominican Republic. Dude wears his heart on his sleeve. Hopefully he makes it.

Da Nit,

Thank you for the unsolicited kind words, I’ve always respected and enjoyed your positing you come across as a really good and chill dude.

SJ,

The frequency of our hang outs has only to do with my evolving life commitments, the quality of your company makes me wish we could have lunch at least once a week, maybe that’s a good goal for both of us to work towards.

I’ve heard good things about Papi through the sports writer grapevine. I think he will be OK and make a full recovery. We all pull for his full recovery he is a truly good person.

Woke up late today. My sleep pattern has been a disaster. I almost pulled the trigger on heading out at 4:45AM to catch the last of the cash game stragglers, but I fell back asleep again.

I'm going to the Orleans to play today because...that's what I want to do. I have a hunch, little more than a hunch, that there will be low-level WSOP players staying there, and that the wait won't be so damn long as it is currently at the Rio. Seriously, what kind of tilted tourney player is going to wait more than two hours to get on a cash game table?

I actually stayed at the Orleans a few years ago during WSOP time and found the games there to be very soft. That could have been a function of many things, but I will check on that situation today.

The feeling is mutual, Nat. You're going to be very busy over the next few months, but text me whenever you think you'll get an hour away for lunch.

JFC I landed on a nice soft table until some OMC rules nit insisted on the floor picking up one fish's chips after she'd been off the table for 31 minutes. Her friend, a huge station, got offended and asked for a table change, and a third loose passive predictable lady followed suit because she didn't like his attitude either.

Nice going, OM Rules Nit.

The above was just standard fare for a local's casino. I hadn't run into it in a while due to playing on Strip properties. Not a bad session back: I played well. I'd like to play the WSOP $250 daily deep stack tomorrow. With its 30 minute blinds, the structure looks decent.

Orleans: 4 hours:
+$40

Out of the $250 big stack before the first break KK<AA. Standard stuff.

What's not standard is my sleeping schedule since I quit the sauce. Here's a brief slice:

Tuesday
Up at 3AM
Asleep at 9AM
Up at 12:30PM
Asleep at 4PM
Up at 7:30PM

Wednesday
Asleep at 3:30AM
Up at 8:30AM
Asleep at 6PM
Up at 8:30PM

I am awake now at 1AM Pacific here on Thursday, and I expect to become tired around 3AM or so. I don't know if this is a physical or a psychological symptom of withdrawal, or if it's just an anomaly associated with an open schedule.

In January, I became very sick for a few days after I stopped drinking, but my sleeping schedule was fine IIRC. Neither of these data points exist within a large enough sample size to be relevant, but I still find them to be somewhat interesting.

WSOP: 2 hours:
(-$250)

I have same issues with sleeping when I don’t have a nightcap. Really only thing that seems to work is exercise. Do some cardio in the evening. Also sounds lame but some type of non caffeinated tea.

Good advice. I'll have to wake my exercise bike from its hibernation.

I'm back to work at the Orleans after a long break. It remains to be seen if I've pulled myself back together.

$200 pot, one player bluffing three streets with a low pair on a high wet board. He's called on the river and mucks. The caller shows ace high, scoops the pot by default, and puts the bluffer on monkey tilt.

Table your hand at showdown, folks.

Seeing as how you self identify as a nit maybe the exercise bike could be a stepping stone into bicycle ownership, might save a few duckets on bus fare unless you own a frequent user pass.

Do they have bike racks on the LV city buses? Gl SJ hope your feeling better and can capitalize on the poker festival's influx of poker contenders.

Thanks Hank!

The buses have bike racks, but Las Vegas roads are not ideal for biking. Bike lanes are few, the right lanes are narrow and most people ride their bikes on the sidewalk, which sucks if you're a pedestrian.

3 hours back at the Orleans. I'll try for 4 hours today and 6 hours on Sunday. I lost a chunk calling down over 2 streets with second pair vs an aggro kid who had been caught bluffing over 3 streets several times within a 2 hour span. I was fine with the play. If you find yourself winning significantly more than 50% of the time at showdown, you're folding way too much.

Orleans: 3 hours:
(-$165)

Thanks Gambelina! My sleep schedule is still messed up. Since I was awake last night, I played the late shift and lost $300 from flopping two sets vs two straights vs the same player within 10 minutes of each other, so the downturn is still in force. There is not much I can do about it besides continuing to try to play my best. I didn't quite make the month without a drink, either.

On the brighter side, I have an idea for a writing project that seems like it might be a fun and ambitious challenge. Now, I've always done something special for my milestone posts. Posts 1k, 2k, 3k, 4k and 5k were all Nit-tastic tales. For my 6k, I posted something called a trollbomb on the front page of the BBV forum. It looked like this.

Spoiler:

I wasn't the first to trollbomb the page--a 2p2er named Tryst (since banned, may he prosper under his current gimmick) has that honor-but I tried to one-up him by attempting to make every post relevant to the ongoing discussion in the thread, and not just some quick threadjack laid down for the sake of posting. I finished up exactly on post#6000

So I'm still 100 posts away from 7k. What I'm planning will take all of them, so if for some reason you're subscribed to this thread with the feature of receiving an email every time someone posts in it, you might be better off unchecking the notification option until I hit post#7000.

This project is going to take a few days, possibly a few weeks to plan, prepare and execute, so I won't be posting poker updates here until I finish the project. I will still be playing the poker, though, and putting in the hours. I'm not about to give up on that.

If you post here, be assured that I will read and appreciate it, but the limits of the project make it so that I won't be able to answer in kind for a while.

Change of plan:

I was going to spread a story here over the next 100 posts. The plan was to take a famous book that is a big favorite of mine and rewrite it as a series of tweets by one of the main characters.

I was inspired by Jack Swearingen's awesome retelling of The Most Dangerous Game.

In my case, the character who is spinning the Twitter narrative is the antagonist of the original well-known book. He's a bad guy who's trying to look good for the Internet while he tells his side of the story as the plot plays out, but he has a famously short fuse, and right from the beginning he's hounded by (unseen by us) Twitter trolls whom he can't help but engage with.

Also, he gets 280 characters now instead of the old 140.

Anyways, it's a fun idea, and if it works, it ought to be good--Swearingen ****ing nailed it with his go at it.

But...

If it doesn't work, then it's going to be just another piece of bad fan fiction. I have to get it exactly right.

The upshot is that I like you folks a lot, and I feel that none of you should be made to scroll over 100 (or more) posts full of bad fan fiction. So I'm going to either post all of it at once for my post#7000, or if it's too unwieldy, then I'll post a link to it as a Google doc.

This will also give me time to get it right, and I won't feel like I have to rush it. I've already had a few starts and stops on it, and I'm glad that I haven't posted any of the early drafts. What you'll be seeing on my 7k post will be, for good or otherwise, a finished product.
