I'm taking the rest of January off from the booze. This is the first post on a new page, so hopefully it doesn't sit here and mock me for the next hundred posts.

I had planned on getting 6 hours in at Bally's, but I'm feeling a bit on edge here on Day 1; nothing like the DTs or the Shakes, rather it's very similar to a caffeine free Day 1 so far. I'm a bit distracted and on edge. I don't think that I can bring my A game today, so I'm taking it off.

Whoa holy crap! I’m coming for the unbearable hot summers not the unbearable cold!

I’ve adjusted my attitude so even when I’m in the moment complaining about cold or hot I’m also thinking “but could be Quebec or it could be Bakersfield or
Barstow.

But it’s not. It’s Las Vegas

Ha, I was just about to invite you for a round of drinks if you were on the grind tonight. But GL, hope it works out for you, that is the most important obv.
As for the Ballys game, I played it last evening it was kinda meh. Not terrible but too many promohunters. Kinda unsurprising with the freeroll promo and the buffet promo. None of them was a great player but just too nitty, not a lot of action.

Yeah the timing didn't work out. I'm a firm believer in waiting until you're ready before you quit something, but otoh I think you should never hesitate when you are finally ready.

The Bally's game can be good, though you may have to do a table switch or two to get away from one with too many promo nits. I think you're leaving tomorrow, but if you're playing tonight one more time, I would recommend trying the Orleans $1/$3 once.

If not, I'm going to try to get 6 hours in at Bally's tonight before the freeroll tomorrow. PM if you're around.

good call (NHNH). like the time frame; realistic and attainable.

your liver will reward your commitment. also fun to sleep through the night and wake relatively pain free.

Thanks mendicant loafer! You hit it on the nail. It's an undertaking of moderate scope and difficulty carrying a fair chance of success. It's also helpful that the Dry January business is trending. I can use that as a quick easy answer when people who know me ask me why I'm not drinking, which in my prior experience happens a lot.

Yesterday I was able to play for an hour at Bally's with 2p2er FWWM (aka Fire.) I was on his direct left so of course I 3-bet him once and floated him in a SB v BTN spot, as that was my job in that position and because

Spoiler:
NO COLLUSION!

Fire and I talked a fair amount of "shop", more than I usually like to, but the rest of the players at that table in that hour were entirely promo nits, with no recreational players within earshot, so I didn't see any harm in it. The only winner at that table last night was the house. Fortunately the table broke fairly quickly.

Bally's: 6 hours:
(-$80)

Yep, the only good hand I had there was Js in the SB, 3 or 4 limpers, I made it 15 , everyone folded. Played a few more hands just so suited doesn't think I'm a classic nit, but hardly had anything playable. The house surely wins in these setups. Based on my limited Vegas survey of last week the best games were at the big rooms like Bellagio or Wynn. And the red rock 2/5 was a good game too, although I lost heaps there, should of folded more rivers. GL on the grind!

Glad you could make it, brother. I'm planning on playing some challenge $2/$5 today, and hoping that there'll be some NFL playoff bettors at the tables.

I'm split between Bellagio and Red Rock. On one hand, Bellagio will have more NFL tourists, but on the other hand how many of them will be due to fly out today if their team isn't playing in one of the afternoon games? The local football fans at Red Rock aren't going anywhere.

Bally's freeroll: 2 hours:
+$87

Yesterday I punted the opportunity to go out and make some money. That made last week into another pathetic showing for hours. The holidays are over, and even when they were around I still wasn't getting any paid time off. The hour business is currently the biggest leak that I need to address. This coming Wednesday through Sunday will be a mandatory 40 hour week.

Today I am very sick. I have any number of flu-like symptoms, and they're all combining together to make me as weak as a newborn kitten.

I suspected that something like this would happen. Years ago, whenever I'd attempted to quit smoking cigarettes cold turkey, it was always even money for me as to whether I'd get very sick or not.

Nowadays, it's the same with quitting alcohol. I lost the flip here, and now I can barely sit up in a chair for more than 5 minutes.

I'm no medical expert, but that won't stop me from tendering a hypothesis: my immune system is out of whack. I presented it with 6 straight months of steady drinking every day, and then I suddenly took that all away. It feels like the equivalent of grabbing an overworked sheep dog and locking him in a clean, tiny apartment for a week. The dog wants to do his job, any job, more than anything, so he's going to start finding and addressing things in the apartment that he shouldn't be finding and addressing, and the whole place is going to get torn apart pretty quickly.

Speaking of tiny apartments, I have no food in mine. The grocery store is around 2 miles away, normally a very easy stroll for me. I'll have to find some energy within to toddle out there for aspirin, citrus juice, and I think yogurt. There's a taco place a lot closer, but my stomach has just now done a bit of a flip as a response to me considering burritos or tacos.

Thanks Nat! Good advice. I will look them up the next time I'm laid up. The fever--or whatever it was--broke this morning, and I was able to crawl out from the six layers of clothes and blankets I've been shivering under for the last 20 hours. I'm still only at about 60%, so I'm staying home today, and I'm not going to make my 40 hours this week

Cake's "I Will Survive" suits this thread well.

Justice suits this thread well as well

As well as justice suiting this thread as well as as well is well, good choice as well regarding the booze.

As well.

P.O.D. and Cake are co-winners IMO. I'll add this forgotten 80's gem

I look like hell, like I've aged 10 years, but I'm sure I'll snap back and clean up okay at some future point. Today it's time to go out and make the donuts. I'll post results later.

I'm still not operating near 100%, so the plan was to play 4 hours today, 6 hours tomorrow and 8 hours on Saturday. Right now I'm heading home on the bus, and I'm thoroughly drenched in sweat. Sorry about that, fellow riders.

Bally's: 4 hours:
+$499
