Lol, I had to look up Resorts World after not finding it in Bravo. Hopefully they'll put in a nice poker room when they open in a couple years.

Meh, standard day. I crapped out of the Flamingo freeroll, nearing the bubble, KK<88, then KJs<K8o. Standard beats.

I hit Bally's for the overnight and landed at a reg-infested table. After bleeding off a hundo, I remembered that I could change tables

Again, credit this to being an old tournadonk. We can't change tables in tournaments whenever we want. We have to wait and hope that the table breaks.

I haven't pulled off the table change maneuver nearly enough--that was the first time, in fact. I sat down at a new table, picked up aces on the first hand, and got paid off by a tilted fish.

Bally's: 8 hours (Flamingo freeroll -$5):
+$8

It's about

Spoiler:

I'd have to go back and compile the Reno numbers, which I don't have in the database. But as you'd suspect, the numbers are not great. I'm in the black but nowhere near to making a living wage.

I'm treating these first few months as an internship. I'm getting better at executing the cash game, and I'm not about to give up on it.

Yesterday I was almost the first runner out of the Bally's freeroll. Unlike the Harrahs and Flamingo tourneys--where I've explained why I'm never dismayed with very early exits--a Bally's brick would have been acutely embarrassing and -EV.

They had 82 runners and were paying 80.

I ran my top set into a straight close to the first hand of the tourney and lost half my chips. By the time the second level hit, I had 12bbs. Fortunately I picked up AA and held against KK. The tournament director actually announced our hand over the PA system, what with everyone being immediately concerned with the bubble.

I made it to the final table and was 10/10 in chips when they called for a chop. Good Lord, cash game players are just terrible at chops. They gave the overwhelming chip leader a little extra, and split the remainder evenly, 9 ways.

By ICM measures and standard payouts, my short <3bb stack was worth about $350, even when giving me an extra theoretical $40-$60 for consulting Jennifear's MTT Push/Fold charts on my phone every hand.

My actual share was $720 after tip.

I lost roughly $1200 at the Flamingo July 2017, maybe you can get it back for me.

I looked underneath the couches they have against the wall of the Flamingo room, but I couldn't find any of your black chips

Also today, a Flamingo dealer informed me that I had missed a real Live One there yesterday. The regs present at the time talked him into playing $2/$5, a level which goes off at the Flamingo more rarely than does candy rainbow unicorn skeet.

They took him for over a thousand at that level, then they somehow talked him into playing $2/$5 PLO--a game which he had never played before at any level. There he lost several $500+ pots through alternately thinking that he could use one or three of the cards in his hand.

After a few of those beats, he threatened to quit, so they all went back to $2/$5 NL for him, and they played until they got the rest of his money.

Sure I would have loved to have been there, although I don't know how I would have handled the PLO. Even the 1c/2c level online invariably puts me on dynamite monkey tilt within 10 minutes. I have not the slightest idea how I could have handled $2/$5 PLO.

Another good day. I played well and I ran well. I was, however, bluffed off AK as TPTK on a scary board, with both of us having >250bb effective, and him shoving pot plus a smidge on the river--a chunky bet to say the least--and then I was shown the bluff. I felt salty for a few minutes, but I didn't tilt. His story checked out on every street, so I believed it. Nice hand sir.

Monday and Tuesday are my weekend, then back on Wednesday to start the $1/$3 level of the challenge at the Encore.

I have a number of hours from Reno that I haven't compiled yet, but I can say in general terms that I'm barely in the black, and that the hourly so far is not near a living wage.

I'm not particularly dismayed by this. I'm studying the game and making adjustments to improve the wr going forward.

How are you continuing to grind if you're not making money to live on?

I saved up enough funds to survive an extended early downswing, combined with living fairly cheaply, and using comps for a lot of free or discounted meals.

In a broad sense, I'm a life nit. Given that I can write somewhat clearly, I thought it might be of some small interest that I often throw everything off to the side to try to gamble for a living.

Thanks robert! The blog also helps me get off my lazy ass by creating some accountability. Yesterday I was playing Dishonored 2 and I had a great ghost run going, and I didn't want to go anywhere. My rules allow for me to **** off, but only given that I'll be honest about it here in this thread.
I got off my ass and I went to work.

That's why I enjoy this thread. Great writing style combined with somebody willing to just jump in and play professionally. I realized how decent of a writer you are when you made a normal car trip from one city to another sound interesting. Something I wouldn't of thought twice about in most instances. GL with it all, not that I think that you need it.

Thanks WorldzMine! Your kind words mean a lot to me.

But yeah, that's more than likely enough navel gazing from me in this thread...for now.

I'll ask for your forgiveness. As a Gen-Xer, I was raised on meta commentary and Deconstructionism, so me commenting on the blog as a thing in itself, as opposed to just telling what happened, is a function of my generational upbringing, and is not necessarily a good or an entertaining thing.

Going forward, I'll try to stick with telling what happened, and then what happened next, but I can make no guarantees.

So here's what happened:

Tuesday I played a $105, $2k gtd tourney at Bally's. Recently I've come to believe that the lack of chopping math skills in the current player pool might make up for a good portion of the high rake at these buyins, so I installed an ICM dealmaker app on my phone, and I resolved to add a tourney into the schedule from time to time.
(-$105)

Wednesday was a challenge day, and it took a Herculean effort to tear myself away from the video game console and to get to work.

I was supposed to go to the Wynn/Encore for the $1/$3 challenge, but I changed my mind at the last minute for no good reason, and I went to the Orleans instead. Two hours in, the Bad Beat Jackpot hit in the room, and every active holdem player there got a share of it.

This is the second room share of a BBJ I've gotten at the Orleans. Since I was such a big old veteran at hitting it, I confidently estimated our take this time to be around $100 each, and I loudly and repeatedly told everyone at the table that this is what we would get, as I'd been present for the last one, and I Knew What I Was Talking About.

We got $255 each. I tipped the floor $5

Orleans: 4 Hours: (I dragged my ass out to play, but I couldn't get myself to stay for long): (BBJ +$250):
+$156

Challenge:$1/$3 Level:

Starting bankroll: $600

Challenge day progress: +$156
Current bankroll: $1056
Bankroll needed for $2/$5: $1875
