Amen to that, brother.

I sent the OMC hand to James "Splitsuit" Sweeney for analysis. I think he's a good coach, from what I see of his stuff. If he answers, I'll post it here.

They played like it was their first casino cash game. There were Americans at the table, though, who knew better.

One fun hand tonight. As usual, I'm too worn out to write it up now. I'll take a shot at it this afternoon when I wake up.

A nice graveyard shift. The games were good. I played well and I ran better. Easy game.

As an old tournadonk, I find myself liking the $5 button straddle at $1/$2, due to its creating the sort of awkward mid/shallow stacks that we're used to playing in tournaments, but that cash game players sometimes trip over.

On the other hand, I don't like to straddle, even on the button. I don't like paying a $5 blind with a crap hand, even in position. I will always be a good sport and straddle though, if everyone is trying to get a round going.

The same amiability goes for chopping in the blinds. I will offer to chop and agree to chop any time anyone wants to. There's real value in taking a target off your back through not being a dick. Some casual players will actually miss value bets and raises against me in spots where they have me crushed--and not just because they're bad at value betting--as I've seen them go on to gleefully stack a glum rules prick a few hands later.

tl;dr: I like when other people straddle. Now for the hand.

I'm in MP. A reg straddles for $5 on the button. Action starts in the SB in this case. BB calls $5 and I bump it to $20 in MP with TT. BTN reg calls and BB calls.

(Pot $61)

Flop 835

BB checks. I bet $40. BTN reg shoves for $190. BB folds. I cover.

(Pot $291)

I need somewhere in the neighborhood of 33% equity (it's 34% when I'm not counting on my fingers at 1:30 AM).

The old Fold Devil pops into existence on my left shoulder, and my right shoulder now hosts the brash Call Devil. There's never an Angel to be found in these spots.

FOLD damn it. Your mid-overpair is never good here. Don't stack off 100+ bbs like a goddamn tagfish.

CALL damn it. It's a straddle hand. It's never a big pair here. Big pairs are either getting 4 bet pre or they're waiting for the turn to shove.

FOLD damn it. It's a dumbass two pair, at best you're under 30%, and that's if it's not a set. You'll have to counterfeit him and you'll never do it. You'll never do it.

CALL damn it. It's a crap draw. You're way more than 33%, probably better than even. Your big boy pants: hoist and fasten them.

I call.

Spoiler:
Reg flips over 32, giving me 54% equity.

Brick, brick, and I win a nice pot.

There IS great value in taking the “you’re a dick/prick” target off the back Suitedjustice's Ongoing Mid-life Crisis

More 2+2ers would be wise to learn and adopt this earlier on in life

Right on, though some of the threads you hang out in are relatively hater infested imo.

Another good night, although it only lasted 4 hours before I grew tired to the point where I wasn't keeping up even my B game, so I packed it up early. I wasn't drunk or hungover; the day shift/graveyard shift transitions are simply taking a toll on my middle-aged body.

The games have been damn good in the overnight. I don't have enough of a sample size yet to confirm that this is generally the case, but I'm liking what I've seen so far.

I really don't want to transition to being completely nocturnal. I like having a bit of a tan and not shambling around looking like some spent white ghoul. For now, I'm going to keep the current schedule and see if I can gradually push the envelope on the Friday/Saturday graveyard hours up to 8 each.

Boredom + years of team sports locker rooms filed with people talking **** for talking **** sake = the attraction.

It’s sort of amusing, I came to 2+2 for live low limit strat and some Vegas TRs and I stayed for the **** talking because I ended up with more time on my hands than I probably deserve at work. Outside of a few posters threads that I like, my subs are just **** threads.

Probably means I’m done with this forum as I long ago got everything I was looking for, but I still really like the TRs and the stories like your own sooooo here we are!

SJ,

Since you already take Monday/Tuesday consider this schedule:

Monday: recovery day - sleep in and laugh at the M-F crowd. Enjoy MNF

Tuesday: daytime errands, get your adult task out of the way.

Wednesday: Daytime errands/Personal stuff + Evening sesh. Play around dinner time into the post dinner time and clean up the coventioners from the Taj scene in rounders.

Thursday: Head out a little later to play and wrap it up around midnight-1am, later if the game is good.

Friday and Saturday: prepare to be on the EDM schedule and party rock from 8pm to 3-4am or later. Get your money.

Sunday: Scoop up the NFL promo tourist and sportsbetters chasing their losses during the afternoon and SNF games.

That kind of schedule let’s your build up to all nighters and then recover without having to be on a 3-5 night a week graveyard schedule.

Agreed. Making the most of the weekend should be key in your plan. Playing Sunday afternoon/evening would work well. Totally understand not wanting to do overnights all the time. It's pretty brutal on the body and unless you're just naturally a night owl anyway probably not the best lifestyle.

Good suggestions . I'm currently taking Sunday off as the recovery day and using Monday as the chore day. Sunday is surprisingly dead in August, but I too believe that it will pick up once football season starts in earnest, and I'll shift the days off back over to Mon-Tue.

I like the late Thursday idea, Nat; sort of ease my way into the overnight weekend shifts. Done and done.

Looks good, Sheep. If I'm still around for the WSOP next year, I will be firing bullets at the Main Event satellites, so hopefully I'll have my own tournament diaries to share.

Good call SJ. Some of your traits remind me of me: you’re sharp and you know a lot and you know better than to do many things you shouldn’t - but sometimes it takes some light encouragement to get you to do what you know you should. I suspect you’re gonna crush Vegas and thrive or crush Vegas and become bored but either way you’re gonna make it as a 2/5 grinder there. It’s only a matter of how long it will take to happen

I am not saying raising is bad, its hard to exploit and you get to realize your full equity but you also fold out all hands you beat and almost none that beat you. In general, imo, at 1/2 it is very profitable to play turns and rivers more often as people dont know how too

Grats to Mr. tbh35 for winning this portion of the thread through giving the exact right advice.

WP sir! <taps table>

As I've mentioned before, I like Splitsuit a lot and I recommend him. You can find a ton of great free videos from him here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5Ss...C3Kk1PJ03brkhy , and @SplitSuit is a very good follow on Twitter https://twitter.com/SplitSuit

The owners of the office in which I had worked for 12 years have suffered a family tragedy and they need me to come back to New England and keep an eye on the business until Sept 4, while they take care of the aftermath. They'll fly me back first class and pay me.

You may recall that these are the folks who flew me out to Reno first class and paid my full salary for 3+ weeks while I was exploring my poker career options out there. The correct answer to give in this spot is yes, always yes. So I'm going to be Office Boy again for the next two weeks.

Yes, Morph, there is a New England. And it's just as uptight and rainy and foggy as the old version. And it's snowier on top of that.

That's a fantastic cover, Sheep. I've never heard that version before. They nailed it.
