If my Big Mac analogy sounds like something Stephen King would say it’s because it’s a almost direct quote from him, good writers love self deprecation. Remember reading that like 20 years ago. Different Seasons is the only book I’ve read of his as I’m not a horror guy. Shawshank and The Body (Stand By Me) I agree should be considered classics. Just saw there going to make movie next year based on The Breathing Method? The idea that four out of four novellas will be made into movies is just crazy.
No jobs. The last time I was here I picked up a part time job at a book store to supplement my blackjack income and I ended up stuck here managing a store full time for years on end. Boo!

My all time favorite books are War and Peace and Atlas Shrugged, but some of King's works still rate pretty high for me even though he's not really considered a "literature" writer.
Wizard and Glass? I hated that book at first because he circumvented the Blaine the Train cliffhanger from the previous volume to tell an endlessly long back story which, by the end, I had really fallen in love with. It takes a major talent to tell your loyal readers to **** off because you're going in an unconventional direction with a beloved storyline, and then to get most of them to come along anyways and buy into it.

I read the Green Mile in the original installments, as they came out once a month. It was awesome. There was a cliffhanger at the end of every volume and you had to wait a month for the next part of the story.

Usually I'll make a new post at this point, but I'm getting close to the 7k so

Back to Work:

The promos are back at the Caesars properties, so it's time for me to wrap up my Summer Break. I wasn't completely lazy. I did, in fact, play in the world record-setting largest live poker tournament, as well as the playing in an online tournament that set the record for the largest payout for any US facing site, so that was nice.

Yesterday I hit the Orleans for 2 hours, and today I played at Planet Hollywood for 3 hours. Tomorrow I'll play the Flamingo for 4 hours, and so on.

Today I was on my A+ game, and it felt fantastic. It reminded me of running down a mountain with Tom, my old boss and hiking buddy, up at Calico basin. We were in our early 30's and we were in the best shape of our lives, and that's counting my time playing high school football.

There's a big hill in Calico Basin that looms about 550 feet above the valley. It's fairly unremarkable other than the fact that one of its sides is covered in soft, sandy dirt and shale and runs a straight 40° slope the whole way up, with no cliffs or dropoffs.

On one hike, after we'd climbed all the way to the top of this hill, we had turned and looked at each other, and without a word we started bounding down the hill in great 8-10 foot leap steps, just effortlessly floating through the air again and again for a seemingly endless moment of pure joy in movement, down and down and down, never worrying about how fast we were going or how we would stop once we got to the bottom.

That's how poker feels sometimes when I'm playing A+, just effortless and fun and under control, win or lose. In fact, right at the end of the session I was down $120 and quite happy about it. I should have been down more than $250, but I'd picked up a few pots that I shouldn't have, and I'd dodged a few bullets that I shouldn't have.

At the very end of the session I picked up 55 in EP. This is sometimes a fold from EP at a very aggressive table, but if my image is tight--which it usually is--small pairs are great to open from EP, as any observant player will have trouble putting me on the low set when it hits.

Sure enough I hit the set on the flop, then I boated up on a paired river card that also completed a flush, and I got paid the whole way. Easy game.

Yesterday I played the overnight at the Flamingo. Now that I've had some time to analyze the games on different shifts, I can report that I don't see any fewer competent regs on the overnight shift than I do during the day. Players who want to make money read forum posts that tell them the games are better late at night, and they proceed to make the games less better by showing up.

I played okay. I lost a buyin on a big draw AT vs Q9 on a QT9J2 board, with a good chunk of the money going in on the flop and the remainder in on the turn. Pretty standard.

One of the issues I've run into is that after the long break I've forgotten some of my starting hand requirements, which I'd thought were permanently ingrained into my memory. They were not, so I've had to text myself some of the more marginal spots to check on later. To wit:

KTo in the CU
A6o on the BTN
J9o on the BTN
76s UTG

Yes, I know it depends on who's in the blinds and who has position on me if I'm not on the button. Assume a generic loose passive $1/$2 table.

I played yesterday and I ran like a dogshit. Within 5 minutes I was down a buyin, losing $80 on one hand with 2 pair when the flush got there on the river, then losing the other $220 two hands later when I raised an UTG straddle to $20 on the BTN with AQo and snap called UTG's all-in 3-bet, losing to Q8o, which made a straight.

On the previous hand, when villain was UTG+1, he had shoved all-in blind and it was folded to me in the SB. I had looked over to the BB and seen that he was ready to fold, so I gladly reshoved with my A4s. UTG+1 had picked up A6o blind and we chopped.

I'll be back trying to earn Sklansky bucks again today.

Right after I sat down yesterday, a different player at the Flamingo blind shoved all in from EP for around $220. Poker is not dead. Similar to the day before, he was called by the guy in the SB with A4o (not me, sadly), and SB held this time.

Yesterday I played out the last two hours at the Flamingo needed to qualify me for today's freeroll. It being a short session, I got a bit tanked on several of their 3 oz (100 ml) "shots" of Jack Daniels. I could tell that I was getting a bit sloppy when I detected that some of the players at the table were patronizing me, which put me in a mood similar to Brad Pitt in True Romance after James Gandolfi stopped by.

Different drugs; same idea.

This might be my last post for a while. The next post will be incredibly tl;dr. I don't know if there's a character limit on an individual post, but I might just find that out.

The writing project is almost finished. I'm at the end of the story, but that part is by far the most difficult part to crack.

Over the years, at least three established professional writers have picked up a nice paycheck from taking a crack at this ending, and I'm not sure that all of them have succeeded, beyond getting paid. How much more unlikely then would it be for me as an amateur to pull this off, especially when I'm confining myself to only one character's point of view in a story that has a handful of great characters. Nevertheless I'm going to take my shot at it. If I fail, then **** it: coming from me it was always a two-outer on the turn to spike it.

For the most part, I write because doing so makes me feel better. I can't imagine that I'm alone in that. Speaking of which, a lot of writers maintain that their's is a lonely endeavor, having to sit on their asses by themselves for several hours a day, week after week, year after year, but I beg to differ. Over the past year I've met half a dozen very cool people directly as a result of my writing some stuff down. I wouldn't trade that for anything.

Two hundred and something embedded tweets within a single post would probably crash the site, so I had to go with a text version.

9/12/18
We are pulling up stakes and setting off on a new adventure. Who are we? I’m Jack Torrance, my lovely wife is Wendy Torrance, and we have our son Danny aka doc, the world’s coolest 5-year-old boy. Together we’ll be taking care of a beautiful old Hotel for the winter.

9/12/18
I’d like to extend our undying thanks to my friend Al Shockley aka @albshockley for putting in many good words for us while we were trying to land this gig.

9/17/18
We are going to be the new winter caretakers for a grand Hotel high in the Rockies, up where the deep snow falls, more than 40 miles up the road from the nearest town.

9/19/18
We won’t be the New Donner party, though. The Hotel has cell service and slow, reliable Internet. Having no Netflix will mean fewer distractions while I finish writing the Great American Play, or I die trying...hahaha.

9/26/18
For the Hotel's first 100 years, management shuttered the place from October to May, but recently they’ve had water pipes bursting over the winter. So now the ancient boiler furnace in the basement needs to be run all winter, and it will need constant care and attention.

9/26/18
“She creeps.” That’s what the maintenance manager told me. He was talking about the old unit’s steam pressure, and I’ll need to dump that off through a relief valve 3 times a day or “it’ll just creep and creep, and your whole family will wake up on the ****in’ moon.”

9/27/18
We will be the second family of caretakers to stay at the Hotel. The first family started here last winter, and they did not work out. Their dad suffered from some serious alcohol issues, and the less said about it, the better.

9/28/18
As for me, I’ve been off the sauce for 14 months. And that’s going to be a permanent thing.

9/29/18
Wow, followers already. @Mcloak19 is correct, the old caretakers were the Grady family. A park ranger found them in the Hotel after they hadn’t checked in with anyone for a while.

9/29/18
One of the Gradys must have turned off the furnace, otherwise the boiler would have blown out within a day or two.

9/29/18
All right, too soon. Everyone can just stop posting gruesome gore. Please, can we show some respect for the Grady family and their loss?

9/30/18
Move-in Day! You can see that we’ve already had a bit of early snow. Everyone’s leaving today. By dinner time there will be just the 3 of us here.

9/30/18
Speaking of dinner: here is our family kitchen for the next few months. Just a bit high on the intimidation scale.

9/30/18
Good for us that Mr. Hallorann, the Hotel chef, kindly stuck around to show us the ropes. Chef Hallorann made himself a new best friend in Danny when he called our boy ‘doc’ right away. None of us had told him that ‘doc’ has always been our nickname for Danny.

10/4/18
Now what is all this crap this bunch of morons have been posting here for the last few days?

10/4/18
Okay, now I’ve blocked every single one of you Stovington Prep Douche Canoes. I wasn’t going to let you **** all over this thread. Not yours.

10/4/18
And btw George (yes I know it’s you,) the Hotel already knows all about our little donnybrook, our little tête-à-tête, yet they still hired me anyway, so go ahead and report it to whomever you want, and we’ll all sit back and see just where that gets you.

10/4/18
And so now: Boom--blocked, the whole damn lot of you!
Spoiler:

10/6/18
I don’t feel like I owe anyone an explanation, yet here it is: While I was teaching at Stovington Prep in Vermont I caught George in the act of slashing the tires on our family’s PT Cruiser. I confronted him and we scuffled. It was brief.

10/6/18
No criminal charges were filed; I was asked to resign from my teaching job at Stovington Prep, and Mr. Tire Slasher got his ass expelled from same. Enough said.

10/18/18
It is now mid-October, and we’re fairly settled in. My writing has been going well. It's likely that I’ve finally cracked Act III on my play. That’s an effort that has been years in the making.

10/19/18
Stung twice by a big wasp while I was working up on the roof.

10/19/18
I found the nest and I’m coming back with the mother of all bug bombs and I’m killing every last one of them today.

10/19/18
Incidentally, the bottom of the roof is 70’ off the ground. After my second sting a sort of panic mode crept in and it was all I could do to stop myself from running screaming off the high roof edge.

10/20/18
I'm looking into suing the manufacturer of the so-called mother of all bug bombs. Seriously, does anyone out there know a good product liability lawyer?

10/20/18
My 5-year-old son has been stung 11 times and he is terrified. The entire nest came to life in my son’s room in the middle of the night, in spite of the bug bomb guaranteeing that it would kill all the wasps.

10/23/18
Pally, you can just **** right off with your Darwin Awards crap, you useless troll. We’re surviving just fine up here. Now watch me blot out your online existence from my life.

10/23/18
Spoiler:

11/1/18
Now here we are in November. Today I found an old leather-bound scrapbook deep in the recesses of the boiler room. Someone clipped out a bunch of old newspaper articles on the Hotel, running from the 1930’s up until almost the present day.

11/1/18
This place once hosted a horde of old-time VIPs. Not well-known people per se, but the quietly rich and decadent types we find lurking in the background of a TMZ paparazzi shoot: the kind of pretty folks who regularly hang out with Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan.

11/1/18
The (pre-jet) jet set really loved this Hotel. This old scrapbook is full of party invitations. Great parties: masked balls, mixers, white ties, probably even orgies. Just imagine raging all night at one of these, way up here, back when nobody owned a cellphone camera.

11/1/18
All that cash the Hotel raked in from their top echelon clientele and it was seemingly never enough to make them a profit. Just after WWII they went broke and shut down. They were bought out, reopened, and shut down, again and again and again.

11/1/18
Las Vegas mobsters bought the Hotel in 1965 and refurbished it into a very big private club for their capos and dons and their hangers-on. That party lasted until July 8th, 1972, when a full-on massacre took place.

11/1/18
That was the day when Vittorio “The Chopper” Gienelli was entertaining guests in the Presidential Suite. Masked gunmen piled up the stairs, blew away his bodyguards, kicked in the double doors, and shotgunned everyone in the suite before escaping in a tan convertible.

11/1/18
There's only one hand-written note in the scrapbook. It's on the Vito the Chopper massacre article. The note says, “They took his balls along with them.”

11/1/18
After the Hotel's mob interlude, ownership passed through various real estate hedge funds and investment trusts. Here it spent its seasons, warm and cold, sometimes open, sometimes shuttered, as has always been the case with it.

11/1/18
The latest group reopened the property in 2014. In 2017 the Hotel ran in the black for the first time in recent memory. Now in 2018 it's on track to show another profit, so long as its winter caretaker can keep the place from burning down...hahaha.

11/7/18
It’s been brought to my attention that while I’m working for the Hotel I ought to think twice about posting every scrap of the Hotel's dirty laundry on the Internet. I get it. I’m sorry, Al. I’ll dial it down.

11/8/18
Please stop @-ing Al. He and I have been through the absolute ringer together. With no exaggeration, I would be dead in the gutter right now if it weren’t for Al, so knock it off.

11/10/18
You can stop trying to harass Al now, as he’s deleted his account. Great job, *******s. The last thing I needed in this thread was a troll army. What the **** is wrong with you guys?

11/12/18
k so I’m officially losing it. Cabin fever has set in hahaha...right on the exact day when the Big Snow hit us.

11/12/18
We knew from the forecast that we were going to get hit. Before the snow was due to kick in this afternoon, Wendy and Danny drove down to town to pick up his homeschool materials for the rest of the winter.

11/12/18
I stayed up here, as I needed to trim the hedge animals, which--for you dirty birdies--is not a euphemism. The Hotel’s side lawn hedges are garden shrubs trimmed into the shapes of animals: a rabbit, a dog, two lions and a buffalo.

11/12/18
I trimmed the rabbit first. I touched up its ears and its face. I rounded out its belly.

11/12/18
That brought me close to the play area that Danny doesn’t like to use. The swing chains were squeaky and I hit them with some penetrating oil, but then I heard a noise behind me and I felt some kind of cold creepy energy shooting down my neck and my back.

11/12/18
I spun around and I saw that the rabbit was crouched down on all four legs. Its belly was anchored firmly to the ground through the shrub's stump, so that it was not actually possible that I could have trimmed its belly, even though I had done just exactly that.

11/12/18
That wasn’t all. That wasn’t nearly all: the dog and the two lions had blinked down to about 4 feet closer to me. It looked like they were bounding down the hill, coming for me. The buffalo had turned its head to watch us.

11/12/18
I stood still and I and stared at the animals for--I don’t know for how long--for as long as I could take it. But none of them moved while I was watching.

11/12/18
I had dropped my cigarettes. I bent down to pick them up, I looked back up and all the hedge animals were closer to me. I may have panicked at that point.

11/12/18
I booked it out of there and up to the shed. I took my time sharpening up the trimmer, then I came back for the hedges. They were all back in their original spots and poses. The rabbit sat up on its haunches, with its round, trimmed belly sticking out in the cold air.

11/18/18
I’m sorry about the lack of pictures. My cellphone camera is toast. I banged it up against one of the Hotel’s old brass firehose nozzles and now it doesn’t even register a picture screen when I try to turn the camera on.

11/18/18
Wendy has her phone, but Wendy would also have questions for me: questions like what is wrong with my phone? How did I break it? Why do I need hers? Why do I have a Twitter feed? What am I posting on here?

11/18/18
Wendy actually missed her calling. My lovely bride should have been an investigative reporter. She never lets up; she has to know every last detail, and what she can’t find out on her own, she gets Danny to find out for her.

11/18/18
Danny is...intuitive. He’s extremely intuitive. I know that everyone in the world likes to brag about their kids. This isn’t a brag; it’s scary. We don’t like it sometimes.

11/18/18
Danny knows that I used to drink...a lot. He calls my drinking the Bad Thing, and somehow he knows that I still think about it, sometimes.

“Daddy wants to do the Bad Thing again.”

11/18/18
So he gets Wendy all ****ing wound up. I leave her side for 5 minutes and when I come back she’s right up in my grill, sniffing for booze. The hilarious thing is that she thinks she’s being discreet about it.

11/18/18
I’ve been stone dry for 16 months and there’s not a drop of booze in this entire ****ing Hotel and that shouldn’t even matter, because before this I lived in a house with a chock full liquor cabinet for more than a year and I didn’t so much as touch a ****ing drop.

11/18/18
But Wendy can tell you all about that, because she was eyeballing every goddamn bottle in the house the whole ****ing time. You’d think after months and months I would have earned just a microscopic smidgen of trust, just a little itty bit of respect by now.

11/22/18
Thanksgiving Day: Last night a storm downed the land phone line and we lost the Internet with it. They won't come back on for the rest of the winter. We didn’t lose power; those lines are buried. We also have unlimited data plans on our cellphones and decent reception.

11/22/18
Wendy cooked us an awesome turkey. Chef Hallorann did himself great credit in procuring that bird for us, and Wendy did everything right by it. Love that woman. Goddamn that was a good feed.

11/25/18
We’ve had an incident. Danny took the Hotel key-card and went exploring in one of the suites up on the second floor. We found him sitting on the lobby stairs, not responding to us. He was in a catatonic state for almost 30 minutes before we were able to bring him around.

11/25/18
Danny says that he saw a dead lady lying in a tub in Room 217. He says that the dead lady woke up, and then she sprang out of the tub and chased after him, and she caught him.

11/25/18
Our boy has red laceration marks on the sides of his neck.

11/25/18
He says that he had keyed into that particular suite, room 217, because he was curious, because his buddy Chef Hallorann had told him to stay away from that room.

11/25/18
Wendy called 911. The best they say that they can do is to send a search and rescue team here to pull us out, and maybe they'll send a detective up at some unspecified future date.

11/25/18
Getting pulled out of here will spell the end of my job at the Hotel. I will be fired.

11/25/18
I’ll have to shut down the furnace; the pipes will burst, and things will fall apart. This gig pays only a tiny per diem. We'll never see the big check due to be cut for us in May. Our car will be stuck up here, buried in the snow, and we'll have $600 to our names.

11/25/18
There will be no job references for me, as the failed former caretaker. I am going up to room 217 right now to find out what the hell is going on up there. We may have picked up an unwelcome stowaway here with us, someone who doesn't mind hurting little kids.

11/25/18
But first: this is a roque mallet. It’s used here at the Hotel for a game similar to croquet. The head has a soft rubber end, opposite of what I'll call the business end, as it turns out that I may have some business to attend to.

11/26/18
There was nothing. Nothing at all in Room 217. I searched the room, and I checked into every room on the entire floor thoroughly and there is nothing there.

11/26/18
This is not the first time that Danny has suffered from trances and fits. He has a huge imagination, and Hallorann may have stoked it with his ‘stay out of room 217’ juju, which btw was a bullshit burden to drop on a 5 year old.

11/26/18
In the midst of one of his fits, Danny probably made the marks on himself. There are documented medical cases of bruises and bleeding appearing on people when they’ve fallen into a trance-like state. Stigmata, a good example, has been around for thousands of years.

11/26/18
In any case, we are not leaving. We can’t leave. We have nowhere to go. My parents are dead. Wendy’s dad is dead, and she no longer speaks to her mother. Wendy’s not too happy about this spot, to say the least, and neither am I, but we’re out of choices.

11/27/18
Nothing. I‘m just blocking a few morons today. NBD. Next question.

11/27/18
So I have a question: What's ‘redrum’? Danny has been having issues with this word floating into his mind’s eye. He says that it has something to do with the Hotel, and it’s definitely not good, but he can’t describe it, and it’s making him unhappy. Any help with this?

11/27/18
We have an answer: @mcloak19 posted what is likely it after less than 4 minutes. Redrum is simply ‘murder’ spelled backwards. We’ve had killings up here over the years, maybe enough in the background to trigger a sensitive boy’s subconscious.

11/27/18
I’ll tell Danny that it’s nothing to worry about.

11/28/18
We are closing in on December and my Great American Play is officially ****...hahaha...it’s the **** of ****: it’s highly concentrated excrement.

11/28/18
I’m not going to bore you with the details but in general I could not salvage Act III, or any Act in it, because my hero is essentially a heel and my villain is the real protagonist.

11/28/18
I would have to change the structure. I would have to change the plot. I would have to throw the play away and start from ****ing scratch.

11/28/18
6 years of work dropped down the memory hole and incinerated. I’ve been published before. This isn’t my first go round. Stovington Prep saw promise in me, in spite of my drinking. Most writers drink, don’t we?

11/28/18
Do me a favor: lift one up and drink one down for young Jack’s sake.

11/28/18
Sometimes I wonder--just out of academic curiosity--if Grady left any of his stash hidden around the Hotel.

11/29/18
We’ve had another incident. The hedge animals went after Danny while he was snowshoeing. They chased him from the side yard up to the front porch, and one of the lions scratched up his left leg.

11/29/18
His scratches are what you might expect: nothing worse than you’d pick up running through a mature hedgerow. Danny’s going to be fine. He’s a tough kid. Tough as nails.

11/29/18
The kid had his arm broken once when he was 3 ½, and he took it like a champ. He took it with less crying and whining than your average full grown man. I **** you not.

11/30/18
Now more than ever it’s up to me to ensure that cooler heads prevail here. Wendy and doc need not be frightened any further with any confirmation on the hedge animals, or on any of the other stuff.

11/30/18
I had to make some strenuous arguments for staying up here and staying the course, but in the end I think I made my case.

12/1/18
Last night the old elevator fired up on its own and scared the **** out of Wendy and doc. The thing was running half the night in its noisy way up and down the floors.

12/1/18
Simple fix: key the elevator off, flip the breaker in the basement, then key it back on. Wendy and Danny never ride the thing; it's quicker for them to climb the lobby stairs. As for me, I ride it three times a day down to the basement to dump the pressure off the boiler

12/1/18
So Wendy found confetti and glittery party favors inside the elevator car. I don't know what to tell her. She knows they're not mine.

12/1/18
Tonight I’m in the basement. All winter long I’ve come down here three times a day to dump the pressure off the boiler. Since I gave up on the play I’ve stayed down here quite a bit more, catching up with a hundred years of paper records dumped everywhere.

12/1/18
I’ve gone through as many records as I can. There’s a story to be told here. More than that, there’s a big picture to be found. It’s like one of those Magic Eye 3D puzzles from back in the 90’s, and I’m very close to crossing my eyes just so, and seeing that picture.

12/2/18
I’ve learned enough now to have a hypothesis about the Hotel. First of all this place is not malevolent. The wasps, the hedge animals, the dead lady in 217: all of these things were not meant to hurt us, and neither were they let out to drive us away.

12/2/18
Think of something akin to a big cat, one that’s well fed, but a creature that’s still going to bat you around playfully, because that’s what it does. It’s a test. It’s a test for us. Do we have what it takes to hang out for the duration with this thing in its enclosure?

12/2/18
But it’s more than just an instinctive domination game. There’s a plan, I think, and I’ve been down here flipping through records trying to find out how we fit into it, because I think we do fit into it.

12/2/18
This was not so with the Gradys--may they find peace eternal--who did not have what it took. That’s not to say that the Hotel killed them; it did not. In the end, it was Delbert Grady who killed the Gradys.

12/2/18
And where, oh where Mr. Delbert Grady, did you hide your everloving stash? Don’t tell me that you drank it all on that last day. I can just about smell it around here some nights, especially down around the cocktail lounge, where one descries the distant clink of ice and

12/2/18
hears disembodied voices raised in merriment. Fun! Someone’s always having fun in this Hotel, and it’s stretching out through history. Laughter rilling away through four dimensions. Now that’s a party. Imma stick my dick in the mashed potatoes!

12/2/18
Oh. ****. Me. Woke up at 4:45 AM here in the basement. I had come down here at 3 PM yesterday to dump off the boiler, and then I’d sat down and I posted here and I read through old records and I completely forgot about the 11 PM dump. I fell asleep here around 2 AM.

12/2/18
So 14 hours without a pressure dump when I really ought to do it every 8 hours or kaboom. And by the way, WTF? Who the **** did they bribe and how much, so that this furnace can even still exist in this day and age?

12/2/18
When I woke up, the entire boiler was bulging out on both sides like a pair of frog necks, and the seams were also pierced through with about a hundred hissing jets of steam.

12/2/18
Second degree burn blisters on my fingers from the red hot pressure valve. It hurts to type this. I need a damn drink. I saved the Hotel today. I’m the caretaker and I Took Care of It. It’s time I got something thrown my way for all this pain.

12/2/18
Asked and answered! Asked and answered my friends. I’ve done it. I’ve only gone and ****ing done it! I can see the whole puzzle picture now, all laid out in beautiful 4-D.

12/2/18
I’ve already told you about the endless party going on here, stretching out in both directions through time--world without end. But my mistake this winter has been to wait for the Hotel to wake up enough to allow for me to join in on the fun.

12/2/18
When all this time I’ve only needed to wake up to the Hotel. It’s been right here for me all along, right here from the beginning, just a metaphysical inch away from the tip of my nose.

12/2/18
The important thing is, if I’m right, if I’m not mistaken, then there’s an open bar upstairs in the lounge, and yours truly is invited. Only one way to find out.

12/2/18
I’m switching over to voice apologize in advance for any drop-off in grammar and punctuation

12/2/18
Looks like I’ll have to name out my own punctuation .,?! semicolon oh no not my beloved semicolon what am I going to do ? I guess when you have a free app you get what you pay for .

12/2/18
I’m just outside the lounge. I can hear the ice tinkling against the inside of a cocktail shaker. I hear the cash register dinging, the Jukebox playing overlapping Tunes from seven decades.

12/2/18
I’m going in.

12/2/18
Lloyd my man Lloyd is making me a martini. Straight up with gin like it’s supposed to be made.

12/2/18
Oh yes f****** a that hits the spot

12/2/18
Did I ever tell you why I quit drinking?

12/2/18
I guess it’s not important, but, a good friend of mine and I driving late one night, and we hit a kid’s bike. A kid’s bike standing up in the middle of the road in nowhere at 2 in the morning. We slam to a stop and got out and looked everywhere for the kid.

12/2/18
I swear something went over the windshield it cracked it and it wasn’t the bike that did it. Bike I saw the bike, and it went off in a different direction.

12/2/18
We looked everywhere and no kid. Not reports in the newspapers or TV or anywhere. But the feeling I had those two hours we were searching, I never wanted to feel that way again.

12/2/18
The place is packed oh my God is that the lady from Room 217? She looks a lot more lively here. Sort of, she’s got one of her tits hanging out, and no ones saying anything. And that’s not even the weirdest thing going on.

12/2/18
No, the weird prize tonight goes, I don’t want to be insensitive here it goes to the furry. The 1920’s furry or the 1940’s furry, it’s hard to tell. It’s a dog, or a man who identifies as a dog.

12/2/18
He’s here for everyone’s entertainment apparently. They’re all laughing at him, and not very nicely, and they're making him do tricks.

12/2/18

12/2/18
Muchos Gracias Lloyd always a pleasure to serve you Mr. Torrance you were always the best of them Lloyd why thank you sir

12/2/18
Yes another please

12/2/18
I would love a dance

12/2/18
Hot damn what a lady! Nothing happened Wendy

12/2/18
Who I just met? Grady, Delbert Grady in the flesh. Well, you know what i mean

12/2/18
He says I’ve always been the caretaker. He says he and I were hired at the same time see what I was talking about? Four dimensions.

12/2/18
He set me straight on Danny. Yeah, our dock. Doc’s been holding out on me information wise.

12/2/18
Danny’s known all along that the hotel has a purpose for us. But he never said a word, taking his mother’s side on this he wants to leave and f*** everything to hell

12/2/18
Oh no. He’s been a very naughty little boy.

12/2/18
Apparently he has a cell phone or something because he called Halloran. I don’t know how he did it, but he called for help. I have Wendy’s cell phone on me.

12/2/18
She must have bought him a phone. 5 years old, she always coddles the boy. She’s jealous of the relationship we have, me and Danny. She tries to make up for it by spoiling him.

12/2/18
The hotel is very interested in Danny he’s a talented boy obviously. But he needs to be set on the correct course first. And Halloran needs to be dealt with if he shows up

12/2/18
I don’t know how he’s going to do that though there’s six feet of snow on the ground. And we have a blizzard coming in tonight. A f****** huge one.

12/2/18
Hit me again Lloyd I'm starting to lose my good mood

12/2/18
I’ve switched back to typing. I’ve found myself with some unexpected time on my hands.

12/2/18
I’ve also been shouting a lot, and my voice needs a bit of a cooldown.

12/2/18
I was shouting because my family--my thankless, treacherous family--has locked me in the Hotel pantry.

12/2/18
I’d like to use the bathroom; really, I need to use the bathroom. This doesn’t bode well if my family plans on keeping me here in this little room. To be sure, there’s plenty of food, along with soup to drink, but there will also be plenty of the end result of those things before long.

12/2/18
Okay, I guess I can’t put this off any longer: I’ve had some time to read your recent replies and your DMs and your whatnot, and it looks like you and I need to have a talk.

12/2/18
I’m going to put this as plainly as I can, and I need all of you to read it very carefully. This thread--this is a work of fiction. I am a writer. This is what I do. I write short stories and plays. All of them are fiction. They’re not true.

12/2/18
The pictures of the Hotel in my profile and at the beginning of the feed were stolen from Google Image Search. The pictures of the industrial kitchen and the roque mallet: same as above.

12/2/18
Here’s where it might get confusing, so again please read this carefully. I am, in fact, with my family taking care of a Hotel for the winter, but everything’s fine. We’re doing just fine. Everybody’s healthy and happy.

12/2/18
Now if someone on the Internet were to, let’s say, take it upon themselves to track down our real location and to call the police or a rescue team, they would likely find themselves charged with propagating an expensive and illegal hoax.

12/2/18
I’m confirming that everyone in my family here is in perfect health and in no danger, so it would not be cheap--legally or remuneratively--to call out a mountain rescue team in the middle of a huge blizzard as a prank. So don’t do it, is my strong suggestion.

12/2/18
Let’s get back to it.

12/2/18
So what did I learn this morning, before Wendy came down from our suite and clonked me over the head with a decorative candle holder?

12/2/18
Besides the fact that the two of them were planning on trying to steal the snowmobile and run out on me?

12/2/18
Yes, the Hotel has a 2015 Polaris 550 Indy out in the maintenance shed. It’s a very nice snowmobile, but it doesn’t run very well without a set of spark plugs and cables.

12/2/18
What I learned, before my darling family ****ed everything up, is that I am being offered a permanent position here at the Hotel, not just as the caretaker, but as a senior member of the management team.

12/2/18
If this doesn’t seem like a big deal to you, it’s because you don’t know the Hotel like I do. I’m going to let you in on a secret: this Hotel isn’t just a building; it’s a major and an eternal nexus point.

12/2/18
We've seen that the Hotel connects with itself along four dimensions, i.e. anywhere along the Hotel’s past and future timeline, but it also connects with a legion of other structures existing in a megacosm of worlds.

12/2/18
In some worlds the Hotel is located beach-side on a lake or an ocean; on other worlds it’s not a Hotel but an Orphanage, or a Train Station, or a Prison, but in all the worlds it’s all overseen by the same collective hive mind entity, and it’s all the same Hotel.

12/2/18
I know, right? Being on the permanent staff as a senior manager, I would have a job to do, for sure, but I would also have a nearly infinite amount of time left over to write the Great American Everything.

12/2/18
And how exactly can a “ghost” write anything? Um, yeah: think about that for a minute. Think about that when they find an entire career’s worth of plays, short stories, essays and maybe even novels up here in the storage trunk in our bedroom.

12/2/18
To be honest, I’m fired up and ready to start with this today, right this very minute, but I can’t. The Hotel wants Danny too. I made a promise that doc would come with me, but I’m currently not in a position to keep that promise.

12/2/18
JFC you guys do not let up. Never mind about the Stovington Prep Douche Canoes. They were my fabrication. I made them all up.

12/2/18
All right. You’re officially ruining the story now. Anyone posting any more armchair detective crap in this thread is getting blocked, no exceptions. I don’t care how long you’ve been following or how many nice things you’ve posted.

12/2/18
Exactly. @mcloak19 gets it. Do you want me to finish the story? Everyone, be more like @mcloak19 and we’ll get on with this.

12/2/18
So I’m going through Wendy’s phone here--probably should have searched me for it after you bonked me over the head, you chrome-plated cold-**** *****--and I don’t see any correspondence with Chef Hallorann, no Florida numbers or anything for weeks.

12/2/18
And yet I was told in no uncertain terms that he’s on his way. All the more reason to get me the hell out of this goddamn pantry.

12/2/18
6:30 PM and I have been in this little room for ****ing hours. And yes, it smells like piss and **** in here now, for reasons that you would expect.

12/2/18
Okay, I hear voices in the lounge, and there’s music playing. Someone ought to come and get me soon.

12/2/18
Switching back over to voice.

12/2/18
What was that Mr. Torrance

12/2/18
Nothing at all Mr. Grady I hope you’re here to bail me out assuming your ghostly fingers can shift the bolt

12/2/18
That’s very funny Mr. Torrance in fact it remains to be seen whether or not you deserve to be let out

12/2/18
F****** let me out Grady

12/2/18
How is it that you let your wife and son lock you in a woman half your size and 5 year old boy that hardly shows you off as being management material does it now

12/2/18
I’ll take care of them

12/2/18
Will you indeed sir I wonder it pains me to say that I doubt it I doubt you have the guts for it

12/2/18
I do I do I more than f****** have the guts for it just let me the f*** out

12/2/18
Your wife has proven to far more resourceful than we anticipated she will have to be corrected in the harshest manner possible then you and the boy will come to us

12/2/18
I promise that’s exactly how it’s going to go down just let me out I can’t do anything if you don’t let me out

12/2/18
Thank F*** thank you Grady I won’t let you down I promise

12/2/18
Well, well, well, what do we have here? Delbert Grady is not in my kitchen; instead we have a fifth of Hendrick’s gin, a mini bottle of vermouth, a dish of olives, a martini glass, and one more friend…

12/2/18

12/2/18
Hahaha switching back to voice

12/2/18
Now up to our apartment suite 2C what’s what and who’s where

12/2/18

12/2/18
F**** jumped the snowmobile right onto the front porch nice

12/2/18
It was Halloran. He’s dead now. Oh he dead all right he didn't want to f****** mind his own business so I gave him some of my own business to mind right upside his f****** head

12/2/18
That's no way to get yourself on the permanent staff Halloran. I doubt he’s going to get pick up picked up by the hotel I wouldn’t hire him

12/2/18
Now now now now now now now

12/2/18
I don’t think Wendy’s still in the bathroom. Either she picked up and went somewhere else with Danny or she’s off to find Danny wherever he went

12/2/18
Hey grady yo Ask Jeeves little help here can you step away from the endless party for a f****** minute so I don’t have to bleed to f****** death wandering around looking for everybody

12/2/18
We want you to collect Daniel up on the third floor and you can deal with your wife later at your leisure

12/2/18
Why Danny first

12/2/18
He’s been the one thwarting our plans all along Halloran should have never have come close to approaching this place who knows what other tricks the boy might have in store

12/2/18
Danny’s been stopping the hotel a little five year old boy

12/2/18
Yes you’ve never appreciated his power you’ve barely even guest at it once we have Daniel on our permanent staff he’ll be worth 100 caretakers

12/2/18

12/2/18
They promised daddy they’d let him be a great writer they lied to him they always lie my daddy was a good writer and he’s gone now he’s never going to write anything again

12/2/18
They got him with the bad stuff and they scooped my daddy out a little bit at a time and liar you’re a lying little s*** go ahead and hit me but the hotel will never get what they want from me I’ll just go away I will never stay here

12/2/18
Guess what there’s something you forgot about check my daddy’s phone what time is it think about why that’s important

12/2/18
F*** f*** f*** f*** f*** I’m in the elevator now on my way down to the basement. It’s been just over 15 hours since I dumped the pressure on the boiler. Hurry up hurry up hurry up God this think is so slow but it’s still quicker than running around to the back stairs

12/2/18
Okay the last time I let the boiler creep it made it but it wasn’t looking good then oh no not at all I still have the blisters to show for it

12/2/18
Just past second floor hurry up hurry what I thought I heard Halloran and Wendy talking . I swear I did. He could still be alive I beaned him good but I didn’t see any actual brains leaking out just a lot of blood something that I lost myself and I’m still going

12/2/18
I’m going to say this real quick, I love you Wendy. I love you doc. I’m sorry. I know I’ve had a hell of a way of showing it. If I can fix this in time I’m going to call this whole thing off. We’ll call in a rescue. I’ll go to jail for a very long time. Whatever it takes.

12/2/18
Dad’s still here Danny I just went away for a little while. There’s no way I make this right but I can stop making it wrong. Love you guys. Basement time here we go

I'm back in Massachusetts until Sept 3. My old bosses still haven't hired anyone who can take their place when they go on vacation, so they haven't had a vacation for a year. I will be filling in for them tomorrow, Friday and next week, then I'll head back to Las Vegas.

The old bosses are always generous about flying me first class for the round trip, and while I'm here I'll have a chance to catch up with friends and family, and I'll also have a reminder of what office work is like, and why I left it for poker.

Before I left I played 20 hours at Bally's over three days, then I played their freeroll and picked up a mincash.

Bally's: 22 hours: (Freeroll +$88):
(-$214)

I read and really enjoyed the Jack Torrance twitter feed. The Shinning is next on my read list. Kind of amazing how little of Stephen King I have read.

Thanks Da_Nit! I just finished the final edit on it a minute ago--just a quick cleanup and not worth another look--and I had the account follow Stephen King, Joe Hill, and some other SK fans. I'm not expecting much but why not?

Nice writing, suitedjustice! I loved it.
Did you on purpose leave out the name of the hotel?

Thanks uberkuber!

Jack, the narrator/poster was originally vague about the hotel's name because he didn't want to be doxxed by trolls. Later on he used that to try to sow confusion so he wouldn't be interrupted while he was killing his family.

The main difference between office work and poker is that in the former you often suffer from dumb mistakes made by your coworkers and customers, whereas dumb mistakes from your fellow players in poker generally make you money.

You may be in a slightly unique office environment. Most of us in the corporate world deal with mistakes from our senior management teams.

However yeah mistakes in others in poker is a good thing unlike most work environments.
