Your cousin may be high. "Pretty good" might be overselling it, but I've seen every episode, so my opinion is also suspect.

One of the senior estimators is leaving the company. I get to make my move once he's gone.

Same responsibility as now, but a good raise and then in a year, i can ask for another raise to be where i should be salary wise.

If i get denied, i can probably get a new job anywhere else and make 33% more money doing the same thing. I like this company and working with coworkers, though. So, I'll give this one first Crack

Talked to one of my uppers. Got some sound advice. He's not the one in charge of raises and what not, but whenever i go in for my meeting, he'll push for the changes that my department wants and for my raise. He's a huge influence, so hopefully that will help.

Just need to wait for this guy to be gone or for it to be made public knowledge.

Update:

Waiting until next week before I visit with the bosses. Just pretty crazy busy since the guy left. Pretty much been working 10-11 hour days to get things caught up. I don't want to rush a meeting and make it seem like I'm pissed to have to be doing work.

So next week will be the week.

Is it likely the bosses don't already know of your interest in the position?

Have a comeback meeting on Wednesday. The upper would have done it this week, but he's out of town until Tuesday.

We're swamped anyways.

I talked to the guy who quit. He told me what he made here. I know what his salary increase is at the new place.

Turns out, I'm making about 25-30% less than market value for my position. My current profession is pretty wanted by every company in my field. Meaning, i could probably look for the same role at a different company and instantly make that much more money, since where i work is a direct competitor to everyone else. We're one of the larger companies in Texas, so it's very smart to hurt the competition when possible. I could probably get a new job offer within 2 weeks of looking.

I've kind of decided that if i don't get at least a 20% raise with a plan to give me more, that I'm going to leave. My family works here and I've known a lot of the people here for 5-10 years, so i don't want to leave, but 25-30% underpaid is pretty terrible.
