Thanks!

Quick update from last night.

Decided to play poker at one of the local card games here in Dallas. The game is a 1/2 - 5 to come in game. It obviously plays like a 2/5 game, because it essentially is a 2/5 game. So, the game started around 11:30 AM, I got there around 3ish. so they had 2 full tables going. I had to wait a bit for people to bust/leave.

So, anyways.

I get my seat after about 20-30 minutes, not a big deal. I buy in for $500. Game is fine, just playing. Nothing special happens for a bit. I teeter between being up $100 to down $50 or so. One of the guys on the table had a big rep for being terrible, so I tried to mix it up with him whenever I could. I watched him bet into so many obviously bad spots compared to his hand strength vs what he was up against. I noticed a pattern, and I went with a read -- I have QJ on a KJx with a flush draw. From the way that he played the hand(I can't remember the action), I put him on a mid pocket pair or possibly not having the K. I do know that on the river, he got all in vs me, I had him covered. and it turns out that he had AA, in which, he didn't 3 bet anyone out of the pot with 4-5 limpers.

I think I had $150ish left at this point, so I reloaded and added $500 more. Nothing of interest happens. I get QQ and heads up vs the bad player again, because I 3 bet people out. Board falls ATx 2 spades. I have no spade. He checks, I check. Turn T spades. He bets big-ish, and it smells fishy because he doesn't bet big, ever. If he had a flush/trips, he would bet lower to reel me in, since that was his pattern. I call. River is A. Board reads A T x T A. He bets out like $100, which is a lot, and it makes me think. Because, I can't beat a flush or a boat. I try to think of all of the things that he can have. I don't see him having an ace here, since he didn't bet the flop with it, and then one comes on the river. I don't see the T because I feel that he would have bet it on the flop to see if i had the ace. The flush is most likely, but he played it too obvious/strong when it hit, so I didn't feel he had it. So I call, and I feel confident that he had a busted straight draw or some mid pair that he got screwed on with the board double pairing. He shows 67 clubs.
So uh, he just bluffed me the whole way on a scary board, and I made the right call.

I get moved to the main table with about $10 cheese. Feels good, because the main table is deeper. Table is a little tight, so I straddle a ton and give action in places where it makes sense. Obviously, I lose a bit, but it is to set them up later.

The big hand since I got there involved me. Admittedly, it's very donkey-like and not good.

I'm SB -- have 78 hearts. There was a raise to $25 with 2 calls. I raise to $75 total. Original raiser calls -- other 2 fold.

Pot: $200ish
Flop: 7 4 2

I have top pair with a bad kicker vs whatever he could have. I pretty much am either done with this hand now, or I find a way to shove him off the hand now. I decide that I am going to take this down now, by betting small and showing weakness. So, I bet $65 into pot. He raises to $175. I re-raise all in, which makes him have to call $400 on top. He thinks for a really long time, around 2 minutes or so. He folds, but he says "show me a cute bluff and I'll show you my cards." Normally I don't but, I figure, I can set up some good plays later, so I show, and the table is baffled, and he flips over AK suited. So, risky play by me, turns out to the be right one. I rake in the chips. I'm pretty happy with the play. At this point, I know that I have to play considerably less LAG-gy because I know that I am not going to get any credit for any hands, based on that play a previous play.

Fast forward:

I am sitting around $1100ish.
UTG: Dealt 3 3

I limp, because obvious reasons. 1 limp, raise to $25. Folds around table - I call, and limper calls.

Pot: $75ish
Flop: 3 5 6

Pretty much a dream flop for us, unless one of them for some reason had 2/4 or 4/7, in which case, I'm going broke. The original raiser was a TAG, so I know that if I check here, he's going to bet, which gives me the spot to C/R. With my image, I'm not getting any credit for anything.

I check, limper checks, original raiser leads out for $70, I raise to $170. Limper folds, TAG glares at me and calls.

Pot: $410ish
Turn: 5

Yahtzee card for me, unless he has 5/5 or 6/6, which I am not putting him on. If I check here, I am potentially missing a bet, but I feel that he will see my C/R on flop as a bluff, and he will bet out.

I check, he bets $115. I think for a minute and raise to $325. He tanks. I get another glare and he calls. At this point, I mouth "what the fk" and give a puzzled look, because I am kind of confused, but not scared.

Pot: $1060ish
River: 8

I announce all in for $585. He asks for a count, so I start counting, and he's like "The dealer will count them!" So, I let the dealer count. He sighs and tanks. And calls. I say, "I have a boat.", and he says, "you have a boat?" with complete shock.

I show my cards since he called me. He mucks. I scoop around $2200 or so.

Fast forward to my last hand of the night.

It happened quick, so I forget the exact action.

Summary: I have QK suited, I call a raise of $20 behind 3 other callers. Pot is about $100. QKx rainbow flop. Pretty good for me. One of the limpers leads out for 30-40, original raiser makes it $150, folds to me. I make it $300 for funsies. Fold to original raise, he shoves all in for $750ish total. So, I call the $450 on top, because I'm a donk. He shows AA, running 2's on board for his bigger 2 pair. I got a little annoyed and decided to leave with profit, rather than play on tilt. (I was leaving win/lose that hand, because I was done. I wasn't going to chase the losses.)

So: Last hand, I have about $2000, which is $1000 profit. I lose $750, and cash out with $250 profit. It's not bad for sub 6 hours, but definitely not as good as having the $750 back.

All in all: good night. I got home, ate a steak and had some alcohol.

Yeah, they pretty plain. Ours usually have cheese injected into them.

On a side note, I went to lunch around 11. Got back around 1, it's now 2:23, and I still haven't done anything since I went to lunch.
