Are there any grown men in FW that don’t drive a truck? Other than maybe older guys with an old El Dorado with bull horns.

you get rid of them because they are no longer safe and will leave you stranded at some point soon. they have no value to you just like you dont wear a pair of shoes till your toes are sticking through . if you have absolutely no money then thats a different story that needs to be addressed.

skimping on things that can get you killed isnt worth it ever.

There have to be some. I've never met them though.

bald tires are bad news as well for you as others on the road. that is why no tire places are allowed to do any work on a tire that has the wear bars showing. its a law and not something they do to make more money. and certainly would leave them liable to a suit from the person they helped out by fixing a bald tire to get home.

trying to get the last 10 bucks worth out of a tire is like doing the same for your car battery. both will leave you stranded at some point soon and not worth it just for that one reason.
we have all done those things and learn to not.

Severe ice storm in PDX since Thursday evening, the worst of it happened yesterday into last night. 200k people without power, many since Friday. Up to two inches of pure ice on power lines and trees = no bueno. we’re fortunate we kept power until yesterday afternoon, but it’s been out since. Also fortunate we have a gas stove and a fireplace.
the house is backed right up to a nature area with thick trees (mostly fir and oak). Didn’t sleep much at all last night due to the loud pops and sound of falling branches that happened every 10 minutes. Had a couple of close calls but nothing quite made it on top of the house. Several large trees in the hood didn’t make it ‘til morning.
Temps hit the 40s today and the worst of it is behind us.

the ice melts fast in western oregon. but its terrible when it comes as there isnt a snow cover and people dont have the right cars and tires for it.
just have to stay in for two days. all you need is a small generator to plug your fridge and freezer into for a couple hours a day to keep the temps down in them.

i always add to a house a propane fireplace heating stove. looks like a wood stove. with pilot light. this way i can set it to 60 degrees and it will keeps the house warm if im not there and a power loss. and if home i just turn it up to what i want.
a few days or a week without power is no big deal if you have a few basics for it.

i think overall it has been a mild winter so far around the country. some might disagree as they had isolated huge storms.

i had a similar thought before the President's Day weekend of ice and snow happened in the PNW, and i still do even after it happened. we've had some brief bursts of rain and cold weather, but without looking i'd guess both are above yearly averages. i'd classify this winter as mild and i've lived in the same general location for over 20 years.

got my first covid shot. went like a breeze. no side effects at all. second one may be different but for me worth it.
its amazing how hard they are to get and have administered. finally they are getting it down to a slow crawl even when they have plenty of shots.

after the next shot and two weeks i will maybe go out to a cardroom and see what happens. but will still wear a mask and be careful. i dont find the mask restrictive or hard to wear so no big deal for me.

Just got mine first one too. Moderna. Sore arm is all but I've heard the second one can be rough. Got mine through publix.

been a while since i've been here, any fishing updates? better or worse with pandemic?
03-20-2021 , 10:04 AM
good to see ya back posting biggerboat. miss your blog posts and rants.

second shot is rougher for those that had the virus already as your immunites are fighting back against it more.

ya rick. ive been fishing some. much more people out in boats. as all outdoor stuff has been increased since most were locked out of other things.

generally the good fishermen get fish if they fish hard as the bad ones never get things right. oregon fishing for salmon was slow this year, montana was very good, and in florida its always easy to catch some kind of salt and brackish water fish.

on good ocean days you can easily fill a 5 gallon bucket with whatever is close in to shore within casting distance.
best to be out at first light and last to leave at dusk. thats when the bigger fish are hitting,

if anyone is interested i have an article in this coming month magazine on the forums.

im guessing full scale poker revs up around this june. enough will be vaccinated that people will feel comfortable playing and some will still wear a mask.

it might feel different for awhile until everyone gets back into the swing of things.

some of the games populated by mostly older folks might be weak for a time after that.
