And you point out the catch-22 of gambling. Under these circumstances, the only people who will show up are dumb gamblers, who are exactly who smart gamblers want to play with.

Re: from ray to zee

yea all true. but starting out the games will be 4 handed. i dont know how many bad gamblers will come for that. the high stakes ones wont care and they will play.

the junkie poker players that will come i think will be a mix of good ones and marginal ones but all ones that are stupid and cant resist playing under any circumstances.

in any case having these things open will spread the virus and make it last longer and be more severe.
i can see making it lax for small businesses but big casinos if some of them fail no big loss to society for sure. there will be plenty left and more to replace. just the temporary loss of lousy paying dead end jobs.

Re: from ray to zee

thats amazing that these rooms are opening. no way can they keep the virus from spreading if a player has it.
but it seems the consensus is that after two months of being inside those younger persons are just going for it.
so the situation has gone from everyone helping to protect each other, to its time to protect yourself. and maybe its right to take that route. time will tell.
good luck to you and your relatives through this. i wish you the best.

Re: from ray to zee

lots of rain this last month every place it seems. should make for less water shortages in many places. one of our big problems in the u.s. is water. we have used up too much of our ground water aquifers and there is no way for them to replenish themselves.
so its our surface waters that are going to determine our future.

we take water for granted like its always going to be there. it will for enough to drink but not enough for the production that needs or uses it in the world.

Re: from ray to zee

it seems that the casinos that have opened at least in the poker rooms, they have been getting a good number of people coming in to play. i guess many are willing to trade off catching the virus for playing poker. its a personal choice for them.

the casinos that have opened for all games have customers waiting to get in. gambling has proven to be addictive thats for sure.

Re: from ray to zee

now it gets interesting the casinos have opened and are crowed in most places. bad for the spread of the virus. also now the virus is coming back with a vengeance because people have not followed the rules and have congregated in large groups.
they will get closed again if this continues to grow.

Things are loosening up in Austin, and we set records for new cases every day.

The thing about Vegas is that they don't have good numbers -- everybody will come to town, catch the virus, and then leave before they get symptoms. The Canadians caught on to this last Feb and started tracking people coming back from Vegas vacations and they found big numbers.

Staying away for the next month is the best option for secure health if that is your priority. Secondary waves will happen (and are indeed expected), being extra careful is a wise move for now. There will be other waves/spikes as this all plays out and each of us will assess when the time is appropriate to get back into the game. I think that will be an individual choice as things progress to more stability and normality.

One of our first cases came from Vegas. Borders still closed to everyone but essentials and close families. I can't say I'm sorry about that because covid-19-wise, you're country is still a mess. We've had less than 3,000 cases in BC and most people are still following fairly tight rules.

Vegas is a ****ing mess based on the video I saw of the Cosmos. People everywhere, no masks, no distancing. Unfortunately Vegas might have to change their slogan to What Happens In Vegas, Doesn't Stay in Vegas.

its that way in many places. people spent their time in isolation and are sick of it and ready to really get sick.

Re: from ray to zee

well its time to tell about the new baby fawns popping out around the place. seen 5 of them now. this year they were a little late but are out and about.

the turkeys seem a little scarce this summer. usually i have at least 50 running around but only see a couple here and there. but spotted a few bunches of baby turkeys following their mom around in the high grass.

Re: from ray to zee

summer is finally around me. but a soon as it gets too hot i need to find a place cooler to go. i dont like higher temps especially if humidity gets over 70%. im overwhelmed with the work on the up keep of my place. the harder stuff is getting harder every year and takes longer. i wonder why nothing has changed.
i like to do things myself that is part of living. i am not the type to sit inside get fat and die and pay to watch someone do all my chores. right now ive been building new bird houses. mostly ones for the swallows ( inch and a half hole ) as they eat tons of mosquitoes. which most years there are very few.

poker seems to be fine around here but without me partaking. not worth it at this time especially with all the tourists storming into the area and having to go inside every door they see.

Getting older is something that requires adjusting and adjustments as each year passes. I wonder how long I can maintain my place before it becomes too much. Or takes more effort and energy than I have to give.

Re: from ray to zee

today takes 15 minutes to get out my driveway. granted its a mile long but

first baby fawn and mom near the garage. have to move slowly. next after getting by them there are 4 baby swallows on the fence getting fed. next some small wrens getting fed as well.
me creeping along so as to not scare them and then another fawn jumps up with its mom. well okay now i can drive more than at a crawl. but two different sandpipers have nests right along the driveway and they decided to go nuts with me going by. all well and good
then in the first pond 5 baby mergansers swimming with mom and i had to wait for them to get far enough away so i could pass by. at the gate in the waters edge was a great blue heron. have to spook him flying no other way to get by.
finally getting near the end, and baby turkeys are on the road edge. get by them without spooking and run into a few more with a mom. at last hit the open road and on my way.

I would do a steady 50 mph in and out of your driveway. Animals need to learn to stay out of the way. That’s evolution, and I’m doing them a favor.

Re: from ray to zee

a steady 50 mph would put you right in the river at the turn at the bottom of the hill.
if winter time i would have to warm you up with brandy.

Watch out for those sandpipers and turkeys, Ray!

A friend of mine was out jogging last week when she was attacked by a buzzard, presumably protecting its nesting area.
